Re: Shaq to the Heat
really wierd that the heat would be allowed to choose between a Caron Butler and the First Rounder. Any team shaq plays for (unless he gets hurt all year) is not going to have a lottery pick. It would be like the 25th pick or whatnot , Butler is a promising player - he would be a lottery today and not only can he finish(make layups in fastbreak situations) and defend pretty well , but he has rebounded better then anyone expected. Hes a pretty decent player to be traded for a mid-late 1stround pick that would of course be fairly risky. I am kind of surprised that the deal wasn't Odom,Butler,Grant AND a 1stRounder . ?.
anyway this deal doesn't make good sense for the lakers. I can already see Lamar Odoms instincts taking him to the same spot as Kobe because they both do the same things. They are both perimeter scorers who are going to cancel each other out. Of Course Kobe will overrule Odom , so that basically means that odom will need to find another way to contribute. He got to play his game in miami , with LA he would have to stay on the other side of the court and go down low more. Odoms loses some effectiveness if he doesn't get to use his surprising perimeter skills. The only thing good for LA is sending big Shaq to the east.
As a fan i hope this happens anyway. If shaq can somehow motivate himself to be in as good as shape as he was in last season playoffs in next season playoffs , then the Heat will be favored to win the championship. I hope to see shaq somewhere new. It will also be a boost to Kobe because he will struggle and know how tmac felt last season. The lakers will still win 40 , but probably lose in first round depending on their roster once the season starts. This will motivate Kobe who can be very competitive and hard working when he is motivated. He would likely come back the following season 2005-2006? , get the Lakers to add a good player and finally play like a winner. Its just another one of basketballs many stories how a guy so young and talented as Kobe could waste the opportunity of playing with the most dominating big man of all time. He just wasted it.
I really dont see this deal as close as the hype says , i don't see it hapening but hey - i hope it does.Comment

Asked Friday about Tomjanovich, for whom he played four seasons, former Laker Robert Horry said, "He's respected. In this league, guys don't respect you, you're in trouble. He's played. He was a good player. So he's got that. He's coached championships. He coached one of the five best players ever in Dream [Hakeem Olajuwon]. Players respect that too.
"The players will really like Rudy if they just give him a chance…. I think Rudy can adapt to the old-head mentality there."
But, as to whether Tomjanovich could solve all that could be happening to the Lakers, Horry sighed.
"That's a deep question right there," he said. "That's a deep, deep question."
Tomjanovich had hoped to speak to Bryant about re-signing and O'Neal about returning. If one or both continue as Lakers, Malone probably would too, and perhaps then they would contend for a title. If not, if they're all gone, then the rest would play to simply make the playoffs.
There is, perhaps, one solution, according to Horry, who played 6 1/2 seasons for the Lakers and won three championships, all of them with O'Neal and Bryant.
"Everybody there," he said, "has got to apologize to the big guy."
