        Re: 2015 Offseason Thread

Figured I'd post it here so nobody gets baited into ESPNs article.

Lebron WILL opt out of his deal with the Cavs.

That's the bait ESPN uses to get people to click on the link. The main story here(which isn't really much of a story) is that he's opting out with full intention of signing back. Obviously just sounds like a deal done to maybe just give Cavs more cap space to work with this season. Guess he's realizing that he needs to make sacrifices too if he wants the Cavs to win. Love is leaving, so with Lebron possibly taking a paycut as well,Cavs got some money to work with.

Sounds like Bron holding another team hostage.

Cavs will have about 48M in cap space with 5 guys signed to deals. So they need: (not including Lebron at SF,even though in this scenario,he doesn't count against the cap)
            Starting PF
            Starting SG

            Bench PF
            Bench SF
            Bench PG

I wonder just how much of a paycut Lebron is gonna take then.

They'll resign Shump, Delly, hopefully not Smith, sign a Corey Brewer/Dunkeavy type of guy, trade Haywood and his contract, sign a Mo Williams/A Brooks type. Then they will sign LeBron, and after go over to sign TT and Love.

I thought he was opting out with the intention of signing a 1-yr max deal, and then when the new tv deal goes into place signing a long-term max deal in CLE or wherever?

Isn't Haywoods contract gonna be paid for by Charlotte? Thought that was case if Cavs didn't waive him or something?

Just like with Love, Lebron opting out shouldn't be a surprise since we knew that would happen since last offseason. He's waiting for that TV money to kick in before signing a long term deal.

That being said, anybody that actually thinks or believes there's even a 0.00000001% chance of leaving....well, let's just say I'll need the name of your supplier so I can have what you're smoking on as well.

I thought teams could only go over the cap to sign their own player with Bird Rights.

Or is it their player no matter the rights?

Because if the former, LeBron isn't just opening cap space for the team, he's going to end up having to take less as Mag mentioned to help build a stronger roster.

LeBron's made it perfectly clear that he'll never take a penny less than the max.

Read somewhere that the Cavs may end up with a 200 million payroll?

Now maybe if LBJ doesn't try to squeeze the maximum amount of money that he can, the team could sign some better free agents?

He's going to make a ton of money off the court but what if taking $5-10 million more a year is the difference between becoming 3-4 in the Finals a year from now or 2-5?
