I don't think it would be the Celtics because we really haven't set themselves up for any heartbreak. The vast majority of C's fans are ready to move on from Kyrie. We wanted Horford back but if he's going to get the rumored 4yr/$112M, then we wish him nothing but the best of luck going forward. The main FA's Kawhi, KD, Klay aren't coming to Boston and everyone else is really not worth being up in arms over. Worse case scenario - Danny uses the cap space by trading for a bad contract and future draft pick(s) and we re-sign Rozier. That would suck but I wouldn't call it heartbreaking.

    My guesses are

    1) Toronto - If Kawhi leaves
    2) New York - If they miss out on all of the big name FA's
    3) Charlotte - If Kemba signs elsewhere. Signing him to a supermax isn't ideal but losing him for nothing is probably worse. With all of their bad contracts it's Tank City for them.

    Honorable mention:
Golden State - If KD bolts (I think Klay will stay so I wouldn't be worried about him)
    Philly - If Butler leaves
Brooklyn - If Kyrie signs with the Lakers

    Green Bay Packers
    Boston Celtics

We're gonna be fine either way. Once KD shattered his foot, we got let off the hook, a lot of people already don't want to sign him and think we'd be better off going slow. If he signs, we're good. If he doesn't, we just move forward in the rebuild. We're not one piece away from contention either way so it doesn't make much difference whether we sign someone or not now that he's out the whole year.

Our heartbreak was Game 5, it's all good going forward.

Unless the term "heartbreak" is being used really loosely here I don't see how it's anyone outside of Knicks, Nets, Clippers.. Those are the only 3 teams that went out and cleared multiple max slots to lure away big names.

No idea where that metaphor came from, but I am hungry
Neither LeBron signing last year or trading for AD this year really applies to if they hit or miss on this years free agency though..

I wouldn't call it a "heartbreak" for them to not get a big name, I actually think they are better off not getting a big name, but that could be what he is referring to under his own interpretation.

AD does apply to FA though, because had they not gotten him then their hopes would've hinged on getting a max player to go alongside LeBron and the young guys. But now they got AD, so they're good either way.

              Re: 2019 Offseason Thread

              Let's be real here.

The heartbreak will only exist in the minds of the local media members that have hyped up the free agency period for their respective fan bases.

No one in New York considered Durant would even want to come here until the media hyped up the possibility with rumored stories that had no factual basis whatsoever.

The same with Kyrie Irving who now magically wants to play in Brooklyn even though the NY media ignored Brooklyn for months when talking about Irving wanting to play in New York.

It's no surprise that the teams most are listing are from big markets with a big media presence. They did this to us and those same local media people will laugh at us when the players don't sign.

Pay attention. Know who the real enemies are.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob Neyer

It's a money machine, I've never watched. And never will. Who cares at this point of the year? They should do it before the playoffs start. Or keep the old format of doing during the playoffs. I hope it dies.

I'm ready for free agency or at least summer league. Summer League has actually been waaay more fun for the last 2 years or so. Maybe because of the playoff format. I catch myself watching.

Kyrie and KD have apparently met "twice" to discuss teaming up together. Honestly, they'd probably be a good fit together since KD has twitter burner accounts and Kyrie calls into radio shows defending himself, lol. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/...s-nba-guessing

After reading, I just realized Ric Bucher wrote that article, so take that for what it's worth

Dolan fined 50k for not inviting the garbage Daily News and Bondy to the RJ press conference. Adam Silver knows part of the pitch to Durant was protection from the media and is sabotaging us already.
