I read one rumor which sounds like the Brooklyn Thunder could be a thing.

If Harden goes to Brooklyn, Ibaka could follow.

Which would you rather have?
2021 Harden,Ibaka,KD,Kyrie
Or
2012 Harden,Ibaka,KD,Westbrook

They will have the tax payer MLE which is about half the full MLE.. I'm not convinced Ibaka can't sign for more than the full MLE, much less half of that, but if he wanted to for one year they could get him using that.

However I would assume it would take all of that money to get Ibaka, meaning the roster would be Kyrie, Harden, KD, Ibaka, Jordan, Harris, Brown, maybe they keep Temple or find a way to keep Allen out of the Harden trade, Claxton, Kurucs, TLC.. It's not horrible, but I'm not sure that deep into the tax if they would keep Temple and I'm sure Allen would have to be part of the trade.

If Jordan has anything left in the tank they would have one of the best (on paper) starting 5s to ever play and a really great 6th man in Harris to go with it. Super thin after that, Miami year 1 big 3 level thin, but their guys 4-6 are much better than what Miami had as well.

I dunno, sounds like a terrible idea for BK and Houston doesn't have to trade Harden or Westbrook if they don't want to (and interest in WB sounds minimal).

If I'm Houston, why would I take back not even one all-star or high lottery pick for a top 10 player? Makes no sense.

Only superstar I know that demanded a trade to a specific team and didn’t end up there was Dwight Howard back in 2011-12. And we all know how much of a mess that turned out for everyone involved.

But I think we all know that they usually get what they eventually want at some point. The teams can try to put on a front and act like they’re in control and running things, but we all know who’s in charge. Shoot, it’s part of the reason why the NBA has the fan base/support it has.

As mentioned before, I personally don’t think the Nets will start a bidding war to get him and even if they did I think it would likely take Harden saying he will only sign there for them to win. Not even sure BK wants to give up all that when they should be able to score with ease as is..

I was only answering your question about how the money would work.
