    Re: 2020 Offseason Thread

Reading some of the stories of his first go round in Sacramento, he was definitely one of those young immature players. Buying a vehicle worth half of his salary from the jump, not putting extra work in to get better, not knowing the team's beat writer after a year or so with the team
If he had the drive to get better from his earlier stages, he could've been a dominant player with his size and skillset. He can definitely help Kings though. He's a player that needs to be apart of a no nonsense culture to maximize his abilities

this. There was a time in Toronto sports media AND franchises were preaching - 'who cares about making the playoffs, only contending for a championship counts'

That narrative is and was so incredibly stupid imo. How can a loser talk about beating all the best as if having that singular goal when you suck, somehow makes it more possible than a good, winning playoff team?

What happened after that - Toronto became a playoff team, everyone loved the taste of winning and they eventually graduated to a championship.

I dont think fans wanted to go from a team that sucked into a championship team overnight. If anything, the teams nowadays have the "championship or bust" mentality. Been like that for the Raptors the past few years and especially the Leafs as well. Making playoffs no longer matters, it's what happens in the playoffs that is all people care about.

Let's not forget, fans used to be happy in Toronto for little things like Atlantic Division championship, or hitting the 50 win mark, because all that was new to them.

But now they've built a winning culture where even if they have to rebuild, they want to do so while still winning. They've tried following the Spurs model of being a playoff team while drafting well, and it obviously paid off as seen by guys like Siakam,Powell,OG.

Not that Bucks would ever consider it, but it's funny how the numbers worked out

Odd that some teams have 4 games and teams like Philly, Clippers, Washington, etc has just 2 games.

                  Re: 2020 Offseason Thread

So this whole Bogdanovic to the Bucks thing..

Looking at the money it doesn't seem like the deal he received from Atlanta was too much for the Bucks to still make their original trade and give him the same deal. Roughly 18 a year, and the Bucks were sending out nearly 15 anyways. That is enough cash to still make the same trade, though it would likely cost them having the full MLE and maybe they miss out on Augustin or Forbes or both, but still if this was truly a big player in Giannis staying why the **** didn't they still go through with this move for the same money as the Atlanta deal?

I don't understand. Even if something actually came from the "tampering" the worst that could happen is lose a pick and a fine? That's not worth not doing the trade if it means it's even a 1% more likely Giannis leaves. It's Giannis. The only thing I could think of was maybe Bogdanovic didn't actually want to go there, or Milwaukee wasn't committed to 4 years, I know the player has to approve the move so maybe there was an issue somewhere along those lines.

The "tampering", the backing down from the trade after, the ****s ups with the cap, the Bucks front office doesn't look so great after this off-season, even if the Jrue move was a great move.

Windhorst et al. explained in his podcast that once the NBA opened the tampering investigation the deal was dead. Bogdan & his agent couldn't risk the possibility of the NBA voiding the contract at some point in the future. I understand it, if you can have the same money, or even a bit more, why take the risk? It is what it is.

Makes sense on his part.. I guess it was reported that it was a rival team that put in the complaint. I guess we’ll never know who it was..
