So unless Sixers do a big multi-player trade tonight, I don't know how much a rookie is going to play this year. I'm all for trading the 28th pick for a vet on the bench.

I still prefer moving the draft post Free Agency. It would change the way teams approach the draft after the first week of FA. That way, the draft starts after the league year begins and the draft trades are official
Every league (minus MLB since theirs is midseason) has their draft before free agency. I never get why they do that. There's a much limited number of free agents than there are draft picks. So wouldn't it have made sense to have free agency first and then do the draft after so that teams know what they have, and could better prepare for the draft.

I'd imagine it would be better for the draftees too since you're going to the team where they likely don't have a logjam of players at your position, compared to if they draft you before free agency, then find out in free agency they can actually sign or trade for a guy also at that position.

The NFL has their Free Agency before the draft.

It would be better for both sides. Too many times, you see teams trying to fill needs in the draft because you aren't sure what's going to happen in FA. Maybe signing that type of player in FA might help not reach for the same type of player in the draft. You can have the draft a week after Free Agency. Using when the negotiation period before FA starts, the first couple waves are signed. By the end of the first week of FA, it's really just the depth players left. So to have the rosters pretty much set, it'll help teams navigate the draft better.

" Reminder: the NBA locks the draft board at 3:00 PM ET. That means no trades for 2021 draft picks can be made official after 3:00 PM ET until the draft officially starts.

In other words: commence hat silliness after 3:00 PM ET! "

I can't imagine who is a can't miss player in the lottery.

I think If Cam went to the right team. He could get a really good chance to develop. I'd hate to see my name in this ****. Its obvious the Hawks are using his last 2 games from the playoffs as a carrot. I'm sure no team in the lottery will bite.

I still think he has potential to be at least a solid two way starter. While Atlanta has a lot of players to have to pay in the coming years, I do think are trying to fast forward the process a little. I don't think he's in a position where he can "develop" there since they are trying to move into a win now mode. I think he could benefit from going to a team that is big on development and not having big team expectations.

NBA salary caps, restricted free agents, cap holds, rookie scale contracts, etc aren't designed for it to work this way. They almost have to have the draft first. With rookie scale contracts being 5-9 mil for the top players you couldn't just go through all of free agency sitting on empty money to sign your rookie when nearly every team in the league will exceed the soft cap anyways.

I think using Reddish to move up is a good move but man, most people expect Sharpe to be a late 1st/early 2nd round pick. Seems nuts that they'd be moving up into the lottery for him and I'm not a fan of taking meh bigs like him that high.

I would have thought they'd be after another guard or wing so that they aren't so helpless whenever Trae is off the floor again.

If NBA actually cares about TV ratings, they'd stop people from spoiling the picks.

There is no way they could without completely redoing the CBA and how contracts/cap works.

I said back when the first mocks came out and Franz Wagner and Davion Mitchell were in all the top 10s that I would be scared to take either of as a top 10 pick. Lots of mocks have Mitchell sliding back a bit now, but I still see Franz popping up pretty high in most mocks.

I think guys like him that don't really have star upside tend to be underrated in the draft. I haven't seen enough of him to have too much of an opinion personally, but the idea of him is that he might be 6'11" now and he can handle the ball, pass it, shoot it, defend, and rebound all at decent levels. Just a really versatile player with good size that knows he isn't going to be your star and is totally fine just playing his role.
