Well deserved for Jokic. Obviously had three very deserving candidates this season. I wouldn’t have been mad with any of the three winning but Embiid was 3rd in my book.

Kinda interesting that maybe the top 4 MVP candidates moving forwards are all international guys. Seems like Tatum has a decent chance to get into the picture at some point but those top 4 guys just check so many boxes it’s gonna be tough for guys like Tatum or Morant to win.

Joker, Embiid, and Giannis all were deserving. Joker earned it imo though. It just looks bad that he's gone in the first round. But I was impressed they even took one game from GS. That roster was trash.

Joker is also paving the way for point centers. He's making passing as a big cool. Just like Curry made shooting threes cool.

Embiid’s presence has been a catalyst to Philly getting back in that series against the #1 seed in the East. Compare that to what happened with Denver this year and last year in the playoffs. 1 win? I mean, yeah reg season award, but as we saw from 2016…the real most valuable player often is illustrated in the playoffs in my opinion.
1 win this year but what more would you expect from him on an individual level? Dude was 31/13/6 shooting 58% from the field.

I get what you're saying in that sense but it's not like Joker pulled a Harden and under-performed once the post-season started.. They just don't have the guns to compete with those other guys out.

Regardless like many have said, this was pretty much a 3-man toss up anyways. I feel for Joel in a way because who knows if he'll even be healthy enough to compete for this again. It's a hard award to win if every year the other top 5 vote getters are likely to play 15-20 more games than you.

Another thing to ponder, if Denver gets healthy and looks more like a top 3 seed again next year does Joker have a shot at 3-peating? Would join Bill Russell and Larry Bird as the only players to do it. Obviously MJ, Bron, Giannis all had strong shots of it happening and didn't win.

I feel like this was probably one of the very few chances Joel had at MVP. I don't see Joel playing 70+ games in a season. The foul hunting narrative does hurt him. Which I'm not denying. Hunting for fouls will always be a big part of his game. The only way I see him winning a MVP is if he has similar stats, plays 70+ games, and Sixers have a top 3 record in the NBA

Well, when they give MVPs to guys on 6th seed teams that's gonna happen a lot. The team losing in the first round is just built into that decision.

I'm just saying the optics of it. With Embiid coming back and bring Philly back 2-0. You get lost in the immediate of it all. If we factored in playoffs I'd probably say Embiid too. Because he's been legendary.

Tough luck for Embiid though. How often do you have two centers battling it out for MVP?

I feel like we say this every year, but this is why the award doesn't need to be announced midway through the playoffs.

This conversation shouldn't even come up, but now that it is it shouldn't be zapped of all context either. Like it baffles me that Embiid beating Toronto with Harden, Maxey, Harris paying the way they did and Jokic losing to Golden State with no Murray or Porter is now where people are looking to draw the line for MVP lol. What was Golden State's record even when all of Klay, Curry, Dray played this season? They played at a 61 win pace in just the games Draymond played alone. Like WTF did some of these people expect lol.

You know how it goes, when folks want to tout their guy, or more importantly when they want to bring another player down, they will cherry pick whatever they need to make their case.

I'm kinda hoping that Jokic wins again next year just to tune people up even more.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

No, I definitely hear what you’re saying there. I think my argument is similar to what D. Wade was saying. If you look at this year specifically with everything that’s happened with Philly, and the uncertainty of who’s gonna be there, etc. I feel like Embiid is the MVP for what he was able to do despite that. It’s not a diss on Jokic, but I NEVER thought Murray or Even MPJ would be healthy and ready to play this year. So I wasn’t expecting them out there.

Giannis could probably win it every year, similar to a Kobe or LeBron in their primes. This season seemed like Joel had his best chance, since he missed so much time last season. What he’s been doing in the post season just further emphasizes how valuable he is to them. They were dead in the water against the #1 seed in the East, but now they’re back in it. That’s all I’m getting at really. We can agree to disagree.

Don’t get me started with your team against the Cowboys in the playoffs. All downhill once Demarco fumbled. [emoji20]

I actually just recently watched that entire game again. Some people at my work were talking about it. I know I was on the edge of my seat watching with my family (who were Spurs fans all of a sudden, which I didn’t get, being from Detroit).

The one moment for me is probably Isiah throwing the inbound pass to Bird, and DJ getting the layup to sink the Pistons.

This isn't anything new, I was just reiterating that fact. It's always some kind of narrative. This year's narrative is analytic nerds. Jokic had a great year but 6th seed are winning MVPs now? I thought Westbrook would've been the only outlier for a long time. It usually goes to best player on the best team or at least a guy that's on a top 3 team.

Jokic winning this year feels like advanced stats nerds took over the voting.
