Did NOT say that. Some day in theory LeBron can absolutely have an award named after him. I have always said and will always continue to say that for me LeBron is the second greatest basketball player of all-time. Naming an award after him is absolutely something that can and will happen some day. But cima suggesting that the ECF award should be named after LeBron when the dude is still playing and up until today we've had Zero awards or anything named after any of the three most important players in NBA history is absurd. We gonna name an award after an active player before we name something after those 3? Come on now.

I gotcha. And nah it would be weird as hell to name an award after someone still playing. No disagreement there.Comment

Re: NBA Off Topic Thread
The fact that before this Magic Johnson, Larry Bird and Michael Jordan, the 3 guys that are the primary reasons there is even still an NBA in existence right now names aren't on ANY type of award in the league but you think the eastern conference finals trophy should be named after LeBron speaks volumes.
I didn't literally mean it lol. It was more so if we're gonna go off the guy with the most EC championships. Like the Bill Russell MVP trophy cause he won the most titles, it makes sense. LeBron won the EC 10x. Bird 5x.
But it really doesn't matter. MJ still has nothing named after him which is silly

Re: NBA Off Topic Thread
I don't mind it. I think it's a pretty low risk, high reward situation. I don't envision MVP trophies extending any further but in turn we get a chance to celebrate an individual who may have been critical in pushing a team to the precipice of the title cup.
Looking back to the last time my team was relevant, it would have been pretty cool to see Richard Hamilton walk away with some hardware for what he did to help push us past Indiana in 2004. And it probably would have actually affected his legacy to some degree, giving folks something to point to when acknowledging his impact on the Pistons (rather than folks always going to Ben, Chauncey, or everyone collectively).
Imagining who would have walked away with the conference MVP trophies for all the years gone by is kind of a fun topic to ponder.
Here's another one of my guys who probably would have benefitted from CMVPs: Isiah Thomas. Dude's probably walking out of that Bad Boys stretch with two CMVPs and one FMVP to his name. That'd look like a haul for a guy of his echelon.

To take it one step further, I wouldn't even bat an eye if the NBA ever opted to adopt FIBA rules when it comes to unsportsmanlike fouls.
SpoilerAn unsportsmanlike foul is a player contact which, in the judgement of a referee is:
• Contact with an opponent and not legitimately attempting to directly play the ball
within the spirit and intent of the rules.
• Excessive, hard contact caused by a player in an effort to play the ball or an
opponent.
• An unnecessary contact caused by the defensive player in order to stop the progress of the offensive team in transition. This applies until the offensive player
begins his act of shooting.
• An illegal contact caused by the player from behind or laterally on an opponent,
who is progressing towards the opponent’s basket and there are no other players
between the progressing player, the ball and the basket. This applies until the
offensive player begins his act of shooting.
• Contact by the defensive player on an opponent on the playing court when the
game clock shows 2:00 minutes or less in the fourth quarter and in each overtime,
when the ball is out-of-bounds for a throw-in and still in the hands of the referee
or at the disposal of the player taking the throw-in.Comment

Re: NBA Off Topic Thread
Seeing the Magic win the lottery and remembering Webber was one of their picks had me going through the trade tree from that pick.
Magic trade Webber to GS for Hardaway (3rd pick in 93), 1996 1st, 1998 1st, 2000 1st.
Magic the following offseason trade the 1996 1st, 1998 1st and Scott Skiles to Washington for a 1998 1st and a 1996 2nd
A few months later, GS trades Webber to Washington for a 1996 1st, 1998 1st, 2000 1st and Gugliota (6th pick in 92)
So, if I did it correctly, to sum up a 3 team deal over a year and a half.
Magic got: Hardaway, 2000 1st, 1998 1st, 1996 2nd
Magic lost: Webber, Skiles
Washington got: Webber, Skiles
Washington lost: 2000 1st, Gugliota, 1998 1st, 1996 2nd
Warriors got: Gugliota, 2000 1st
Warriors lost: Hardaway, 2000 1stComment

Ultimately this likely changes things so little that it doesn’t make a huge difference regardless and if the people who get to see possibly 1 extra dunk every 4 games now is happy then it’s whatever..
But I will never think that it’s not absolutely ridiculous to tell a team how they can/can’t use their fouls. Fouls that they have to give as a result of playing good/smart defense.. the idea behind that just baffles me.
The take foul is no different than a player reaching for a steal on a break and committing a foul, fouling a bad free throw shooter late in a game before he can pass to a better free throw shooter, fouling a player in the half court who beat you off the dribble so he doesn’t get a layup, etc..
How do they call legit open court fouls now? Do you just have to move out of peoples way? Are they really drawing the line here for what players can make it “look” like a legit foul instead of “looking” intentional? It makes absolutely no sense to me.
But again, the amount at which it actually effects a game is likely minimal anyways.Comment
