Why not give him to the offseason?

Remember he had back surgery in the offseason(same that MPJ had and it took him a year to get back to where he is now)so why not give Simmons that same amount of time? Unless you don’t see it happening at all, which I wouldn’t blame you.

Dallas has close to no draft picks they can trade I think including 2nds. I’m sure they have one or two but the have less then the lakers after this trade.

I do wonder why the Lakers are adamant on holding on to those 2 picks specifically when they’re so far out anyway?

And jeebs, defensively we should be aight too. Offense, they’ll be a drop off but that’s why I’m hoping this isn’t the only move.

It makes no sense because if/when they decide this window is done you could easily get back 2 firsts by moving off Bron/AD anyways. Regardless they currently have 9 of their next 10 first round picks, so it’s not like trading those two means they just have 0 ways to add young pieces to the roster going forward.

Does KD ask for a trade? Talking on NBA radio that Phoenix is already planning to try for him should he become available.

Steph is going to be out a few weeks and also miss ASW with a leg contusion injury.

I wonder what that deal could look like. Bridges, Crowder, Craig and firsts?

The only thing this changes is who is the PG for East All Star time now [emoji23]
Stephs out, so the NBA could use that as a reason to "trade" Kyrie to the west starting lineup and then just add a replacement for Steph from the East. Don't exactly need a PG, but they could have Brown or DeRozan start instead.

Probably depends if they make another move OR if the team keeps playing like they were when he was out there.

I wonder if Bron is actually pissed. I still feel the Lakers could do better than going after 1 guy, but if they were going that route he was the one.

Should they really go all in on this team with KD right now when the near future is so uncertain. I'd lean more towards building the team back up with picks when the dust settles and KD is gone.

Zion will miss the game too I think. So there are plenty of spaces.

Those picks look like the first picks in their post-LeBron years and as it stands now looks like they could be top-3ish picks. Think they are adhering to buy low sell high. No trade they can make with those picks will catapult them into championship contention imo so why trade away your future for the second round of the playoffs?

I'm guessing unless something happens to change the calculation they are good with using 2025 as a tank year and then cash in on that. I would do the same thing.

Edit: Don't know how many are something of science nerds, but those picks are like electron draft picks. They have one value but the moment you include them in a trade deal they have a different value.

Bron has a player option after next season, the same year his son could declare for the draft. That’s 3 years before the 2027 draft, 5 years before the 2029 draft. Even if he stuck around for the extra year and they tanked the one after the first pick is still a year after that next draft.

And the whole “no trade they can make with those picks” depends on what the trade actually is. If both firsts would have landed Kyrie I guess we’ll just have to agree to disagree with that not being enough to contend. No trade imaginable makes them favorites by any means, but they’ve played with every team in the league for like 2 months now with all sorts of guys in and out of the line-up. They aren’t all that far away from being able to beat anybody assuming AD is healthy IMO.

They don’t need a home-run trade. They haven’t all year. They’ve needed a trade that kept them from closing games with Nunn-Pat-Dennis lineups on the floor. Starting guys like Brown and JTA. Realistically, they’ve already waited too long as is. A trade earlier in the year likely wins them a handful of games they’ve lost this year as is, and they would be sitting around 5th in the West with just 3-4 more wins.

I was never really big on the Hield+Turner move in the off-season but honestly they’d probably be 4th-5th in the West right now if they had made that trade.

What makes it all worse is how open the West is. Again assuming health, there aren’t many teams in the West that look much better. And for whatever reason the Lakers are the one team that actually matches up well with Denver. If they were to sneak in I don’t think Memphis or Sac are locks to beat them, Phoenix has been all over the place, GS too and now Steph is out. Clippers have shown flashes, but they are really the only ones and who knows what their health will look like by then either.

My bad, I forgot about the rule that they can't trade 1sts in consecutive years so I was thinking we were talking about their 26 and 27 picks. That 2026 pick is the one that looks to be their ace in the hole.

With that in mind my guess is that they have decided to hold on to the 27 pick until they get closer to 2025.

                              "Assuming AD is healthy"
Well, I mean, thats a big if. Plus keeping LeBron healthy is only going to get more and more of a hard ask. You just casually throw out health as if its not a huge question mark with this team.
