Dwane Casey seemed like a nice guy and a good person, and I know we were not putting a competitive team on the floor, but it was time for him to go. I don't think you can finish in dead last place every year and continue coaching a team, no matter what the circumstances are. We need a good X's and O's coach and someone that can develop young talent. I think it'd be great to bring Larry Brown back although he might just be too old for rigors of an NBA season at this point. They need to get the next coaching hire right, though.

I guess let's see what happens in the draft.

the funny thing to me about Casey is how he's so known for helping develop young players, and the Pistons front office inundated him with young players, and we end up with Cory Joseph and Rodney McGruder finishing games anyway lol

It would also be funny if we replaced him with Nick Nurse haha, sounds like Charles Lee is the main target so far, but like you said, we'll have to see how it all plays out

On paper, anyway, we could theoretically be fielding a pretty darn exciting starting 5 next year consisting of:

Cade Cunningham (if he's ever healthy for any length of time)
      Jaden Ivey
Isiah Stewart (or whoever here; maybe even a 3rd guard)
      Jalen Duren
      James Wiseman

I mean, that's a pretty decent lineup if everyone continues to progress and we have a coach in place that can properly develop young talent. I dunno, maybe I'm biased, but this seems like a pretty attractive proposition to me.

Bojan at 3 I assume (unless we finally traded him!?)

But this obsession with glass eaters in the frontcourt doesn't make sense to me, we tried this before and didn't learn our lesson, so we add Bagley and Wiseman to our already overcrowded group of monster college/HS type dominators who can't guard multiple positions nor demand the opponent to adjust with their own defenders

sure, anyone of them can go for 20/10 on any given night, in a 20 point loss

we need more versatility imo, our combo guards aren't terrible, but way too many slow footed bigs with an unrespectable shot who only operate in the paint and get big man numbers we'd salivate over in the 90s...

I'll shut up lol, just annoyed from watching this junk more than I should, fingers crossed

Can't argue with any of your points, although with the right coaching staff, I think it could be a pretty formidable squad. But it has to be Larry Brown-level coaching, otherwise it doesn't work. We can't just go out and shoot 50 three-pointers a game as is the style these days; it has to be a bespoke system tailored to our personnel.

Bagley and others also need to go; Wiseman and Duren are all the big men we need on the entire roster.

I thought we'd at minimum be a play-in team this year, so I whiffed, too lol

It's frustrating when the team is set to take the next step, and they step back instead, ugh

"step back" would be an improvement. This is bottoming out suddenly, violently, and completely. They are almost certainly the worst Pistons team ever, and may well be among the worst professional basketball teams ever. Their only competition in that category were all actively trying to lose games intentionally. We have the team we thought we wanted and are trying to win (!!!). That's so much worse.

Congratulations to Tom Gores on entering the William Clay Ford memorial Detroit Sports Hall of Fame as one of the worst franchise owners in city history. His tenure has been an absolute failure at every level imaginable.

I knew this was not going to go well when the first thing Gores started talking about after he bought the team was referring to the franchise as a "loss leader"...

Great season but really disappointing way to go out in the playoffs. They choked, plain and simple. Their complete inability to execute down the stretch was a consistent across all games, not just 1-2.

Bar has been set now. I'll be interested to see if they get much better next year and how Ivey re-integrates with the team.

losing all three home games sucked. regardless of how all the losses in the series happened, this was about ending all the losing, and not being embarrassing anymore, only to extend the longest home losing streak anyway

awesome to make the playoffs and not be turds anymore, total recovery from the worst regular season losing streak, then break the postseason losing streak skid, only to extend the home skid, damnit
