It was true. Walt kept talking about how "This is the new Knick offense." He seemed excited. And the Knicks were doing well.

Then, late in the 3rd quarter they stopped. Two games and a quarter later and they didn't go back to it at all and they got themselves scrubed, luckily pulling out a win in that first game.

Last night, they went back to it and they won.

I don't expect them to win every game they play when they use the offense, but I expect them to be in games when they do.

For me, if the Knicks lose every game this season, but showed promise by running the offense and learning how to run it, that's a good season. When they avoid that offense and do whatever they want, they'll lose and won't grow as a team.

This isn't the team that will succeed with this system. But, some guys will be a part of that successful system and running it helps them learn it. So they need to use it.

        Re: 2008-2009 New York Knicks

There are three major factors that will keep the Knicks inconsistent until Xmas. Consistency in this case having nothing to do with wins or losses, but with how well they play within the limitations of their roster.

        1. Fatigue:These guys are not used to this uptempo offense, and they are gassing out. They are actually hustling more on defense, because the frenetic pace encourages it, but they will take some time both to get in condition, and to learn how to handle inevitable fatigue.

        2. Young talent. Right now some of the most promising elements of the Knicks: Nate, Lee, Chandler etc, are all still younger players and are developing in their games. I think some of them will flourish in this system, but it's going to take time to fit into D'Antoni's roles.

        3. Size. The above two reasons will make their size exploitable in the defensive post. Once they truly learn how to keep the tempo and make shots consistently (also a conditioning issue), bigger forwards and centers will have trouble establishing themselves in the regular season, the same way they did against Phoenix.

So knowing this, it's easier to watch the Knicks now, because it's just about seeing whether or not these issues are being ironed out. That having been said, they can stumble and bumble their way to 30+ wins with hot shooting nights, something that was not possible in Thomas's "system".

Young, marginal talent at that. Marginal may be a bit harsh, and I love all three of those guys, but I don't know if one of them will ever make an All-Star team.

David Lee is fully capable of 10 and 10 and has already done it one season. In a fast paced offense, you can easily turn that 10 PPG into 15.

Wilson Chandler just doesn't get the ball enough but here's a guy that is right now averaging 13.3 PPG and 6.5 RPG in 28 MPG.

He has talent and will continue to grow. Right now, he's not the go-to-guy, but he has the ability to become that guy and once he is, he'll be capable of 20 and 10 a game.

Nate Robinson is still too eccentric for me, but at least he can hit the outside jump shot. I don't picture him as a future All-Star, either.

Really, I think Chandler is the only real super-star in the making here. David Lee is a good player but matched up against other forwards in the league, he won't be an All-Star because he's not a 20 PPG kinda guy. If, perhaps, he can get that RPG into the 12 area, while keeping a double digit point average, I can see him getting Dennis Rodman-type respect as a rebounder that deserves a spot on the All-Star team.

Either way, being an All-Star isn't everything. There are more than 24 good players in the league. And even of those 24, only maybe 10 are actually super stars in this league.

I understand that, my point was that none of them are building block type of players. We need a major prospect via the draft or a big signing in the FA '10 class.

Exactly. In order to be a serious contender again, we need at least two superstars, or one superstar and a very good player to complement him.

Knicks running and gunning again (I think I stole that from Walt) leads to another victory.

It's nice to know that every game the Knicks should have won (meaning they built a lead to win) they have hung on and won despite letting all three teams come back into the game.

                  That's comforting.

Good win. Nice test tomorrow as Utah comes to the Garden, not expecting a win but let's put up a great effort and givethem a game. Give me something to look forward to every game, please.

Incredible defense being played right now. I'm loving the effort, the hustle, etc, in this game. If we can give an effort like this more often than not, we should be fine in the East. Up 8 right now, need to close this one out.

EDIT: LOL. Zach just drilled a 3 to put us back up 9.

EDIT: Good win. Zach was outstanding, so was Crawford. Very good defense too.

Yesterday's game was one of those I would have accepted a loss with the way they played.

Their offense was flowing right, though they struggled to hit shots. As long as they are running the offense, they'll get better.

The defense in the second half was superb. That's why you have to preach "hands up" on D. The Knicks forced a lot of tipped balls with their hands and it created turnovers and fast break opportunities.

                        Great win.

He hasn't played, but has anyone noticed how tall Gallinari is (or is getting)?

During a timeout, he was standing next to Zach Randolph in the huddle and he was easily a good 2 inches taller than him. And he's taller than David Lee if I'm not mistaken.

Leading up to the draft, he was being listed as 6'8 or so. I think the kid might be 6'11. He could be scary if he develops because the little of what we saw in the summer league, he's very versatile as far as dribbling and shooting.

                          This could be interesting.

My god, we're bad. Such an awful effort in the 4th quarter, with Tim Duncan ON THE EFFIN BENCH!!!!!!!!! If it wasn't for Crawford, we'd probably be like 1-6 after this game, I know he sometimes takes crazy shots, but he's easily the best player on this team and when he's on, can drill a shot from almost anywhere on the court.

Yea, the Knicks had no chance to run their offense once the Spurs locked down on D.

This is just one of those games.
