It was frustrating to see them lose last night. Also seeing them blow a 7-point lead isn't exactly something to be happy about, and D'Antoni didn't look pleased, either, during the fourth quarter.
But, I think D'Antoni's expression after the Mavs went up 10 in Overtime said it all to me and it made me really realize that this is ok. I got caught up for a minute there, expecting the Knicks to be flawless, and I forgot that they can't be just yet. D'Antoni woke me up.
When he called timeout in that overtime, he smiled to his players, clapped his hands, and expressed through his posture that it was ok. He understood that the Knicks came to play last night and made a great effort, but alas, D'Antoni knows that right now, the Mavericks are the better team and they weren't going to be a 2-7 team for long.
That was comforting in some ways. Coach knows it's a long road, but games like last night are why people are going to say, "it's ok." Frustrating loss. Yes. But, last year, could anyone even imagine this team being in that position to lose the way they did? It's through these kinds of losses that the Knicks will grow.
D'Antoni sees that. That's what we need in New York.
