      Re: Official Boston Celtics Thread

Underwhelming trade deadline, but there's still a lot of great things ahead for this team.

      - We're 2nd in the East right now, and no matter what this season has been a hell of a ride.
      - We still have both Brooklyn picks and lots of assets/flexibility going forward.
      - Zizic has been killing it overseas this year. If he came out this year instead of last year, then he would be a projected Top 10 pick in the draft. So basically, it like we get two Top-10 picks next year.
      - Yabu (overseas) and Nader (D-League) have been playing pretty well also and could join the team next year.
      - We will likely have room for a max contract in the offseason. Hayward, Griffin come on down!
      - Brad Stevens - Every player on both teams in the All-Star game went out of their way to introduce themselves to Brad and that he impressed the Eastern Conference All-Stars.

I mean, how many NBA teams would trade places with us?

...Now it's time to obsess over the waiver wire and look at Markelle Futlz and Lonzo Ball videos.

Deron getting ready to go to cleveland.

Nothing on the waiver wire is going to boost bewntowns hopes.

Most of these teams have already threw the towel in this season

Agreed with the bold, unless something crazy (injury-wise) happens. Maybe we can make it to the ECF without picking anyone up. I think that both Washington and Toronto are tough matchups for us, but no one is close to beating a healthy Cavs squad right now.

I wish Ainge had done a small move to help our rebounding woes. I feel like he owed this team that much. A reward for the job they've done.

Oh well, let's hope the ping pong balls bounce of our way on May 16th and we can win a playoff round.

Bold above. I agree with you 100%. Can't believe he didn't make not one single move setting on all those draft picks still. I guess the dealing & wheeling will be done during the offseason now.

I say Ainge goes after either Paul George or Gordon Hayward pretty hard especially if we lose in the 1st round of the playoffs or can't beat Cleveland in the Eastern finals.

I just don't think we have enough to beat the Cavs or probably even the Raptors now. The Raptors helped themselves by getting Ibaka who plays both ends of the floor but we did nothing.

What does it mean for Isaiah if we use the pick in this year's draft, and how would be react when we take what is believed to be a franchise type PG? And say we trade the pick, do you believe Isaiah is worth a max or near-max contract?

Smart, Isaiah, Olynyk and Bradley are all up on two years. Ainge has some important decisions at the draft and the upcoming offseason.

I don't care how Ainge works it IT deserves a max contract period. He's shown he's now one of the best if not the best PG(maybe besides Westbrook) in the league. IT has to stay in Boston. No way he could even be considered to have a franchise PG brought in when he is the franchise PG now.

Give the guy his money. Don't worry about the max contracts for the rest. That includes the FA market guys too. If they go after Hayward they could give him close to max but not max. IT has to be the biggest priority period.

The Celtics need to either trade or just release Tyler Zeller. He barely even plays anymore. I mean he signed for a pretty high tender too in order to stay with the Celtics. He doesn't even play much. I mean last season was the same thing. He didn't play much but when he did he played well & contributed.

He's playing under 12 minutes per game but doesn't even seem he plays that many minutes. I mean he only avgs. 3.9 pts/game, 2.9 rbs/game, & 0.5 blks/game.

He's too good to be setting the bench that much. I know why it's being done this way. Amir Johnson is getting paid bigger money while Zeller much less money so Amir is plain & simple going to see the floor more when Zeller is clearly the better rebounder & offensive player.

I say to Ainge to either release him or trade him. He might wait til the offseason although Zeller is on a 2-yr deal anyhow for $8 million per through 2017. That's $4 million less than Amir's contract. Amir will be an URFA though in 2017 so that may give Zeller a chance after all for 2017.

I'm hoping that Danny and IT decide to go the "you scratch my back, I'll scratch your back" route next year, by giving IT and extension a year early and him taking a discount (by signing in the 25-28M range). IT would take a bit of a loss but would make around 18m more next season and be a FA a year sooner, so could possibly get another big deal before his career is over.

I'm all for drafting the best player available, even if it is another PG. If it is, then let them battle Rozier for backup minutes (which if we take a G with a top 1-3 pick, then I imagine that they will beat Rozier). We can always package players and future picks to add a big since our backcourt is already crowded and will only get more crowded by bringing in another guard.

Zeller's contract for next season is unguaranteed so basically, he's an expiring contract. Let's be real here, he was just signed as a salary throw-in for a big trade.. and of course, that never happened. I would cut him or Mickey right now and add Terrance Jones or even bring Sully back if we can. I think either of those fit the offense better anyway and Sully would easily become our best rebounder. Obviously, neither is ideal, but doing something is better than nothing.

Bold above. We would have been better off keeping Sully instead of signing Zeller to that much money & he basically be a no show on the court. They haven't given Zeller a chance. No, he's not going to be a Boogie Cousins type player but everytime that he's seen the court he's played really well.

I mean to give Zeller $8 million per & barely play him is not a smart move. Especially if we're going to set him on the bench. We would have been smart to have gave Sully the money instead & let him play because he would have seen the court. I don't understand what's up with Zeller not getting more playing time. Everytime he plays he does pretty well. I don't quite understand this move that was made by Ainge.

I thought back when we let Sully go & then signed Zeller then Zeller would get at least 20 minutes per game. He's not even at 12 minutes per game. I just don't get it. Zeller is getting paid well doing much of nothing because he's not been given the chance to do so. Thanks!
