Re: The Official Portland Trailblazers Thread
He doesnt need to be a star because we have a lot of players who can pick it up. Roy is consistant...Hes just not a ball hog that gets 30+ pts per game.Comment

Re: The Official Portland Trailblazers Thread
He has star potential, and I agree he doesn't have to ball hog, thats not him. But if he really learns how to turn it on game after game, he will really be special. Right now he's good, but his game has alot more room to grow. We don't need him to be Kobe-esque with the ball, but we do need him to understand when the team needs him to go off.The Sports Preacher

Re: The Official Portland Trailblazers Thread
Brandon Roy will never be a star. He will be known as a the combo face of this franchise along with Oden after this or next year. When we start going to the playoffs he will be a player who always makes it to the all-star game. If you ask me who will be a "star" it's going to be Oden...Because there is not a lot of centers like Oden and not a lot of good centers. Roy simply will never be a star because his style of play...Most people idenify a superstar as being "flashy" and jamming it down with authority. Roy will never have the PPG to become an elite SG in the league.Comment

Re: The Official Portland Trailblazers Thread
I disagree many stars have played the game the style that Roy does. He may not be flashy but the kid is just ridiculously strong with the ball and can run the offense from either guard spot. I just want him to stay healthy and keep adding facets to his game( better outside touch, etc).
I just ordered NBA league pass so i am officially ready for the games to start!!!The Sports Preacher

Re: The Official Portland Trailblazers Thread
Lebron, Kobe, Iverson, Vince Carter, Dwade Tmac are the stars of today why? Because they are flashy.
Brandon Roy will remain Portlands leader...But will never be vied as a "star" in the peoples eyes. He will always be viewed as Portlands half leader that has a great team. Honestly for him to be a star...A lot of these guys on our team just have to simply...leave...for B-Roy to even have a chance to be a star. Star or no star...He is all Blazer fans savior.
Ive seen about 4 other guys like you on 2 different forums...They all claimed that they would be Blazer fans but Oden went down and we lost our first couple of games. They went byebye quickly...Luckily for you...We will finish above 45wins.Comment

Re: The Official Portland Trailblazers Thread
Let me get this out of the way. I was a lifelong Mavs fan, Dirk is still my favorite player. I bought tickets back when the Mavs only won 13 games. When I root for a team, I am all in. My decision to change my basketball team grew out of frustration with the owner who wants to be friends with the players as opposed to the owner. I don't need your permission/approval to root for the Blazers. You can hate the fact that I am rooting for the team that you love, that's cool. But lets make this about the Blazers not about me or you.
There are a bunch of nba fans that look past the flash and want to see a fundamentally sound player. Guys like Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, Dirk, Elton Brand, Duncan, etc are all stars who aren't flashy. For as flashy as Kobe is, he is very fundamentally sound. They all play within themselves, and for our team to take the next step, we really need Roy to help keep the court spread for Oden and Aldridge. If he can keep the defense honest by hitting his J consistently along with continuing to drive when its necessary he will be that star. I don't think its realistic to expect Oden to carry us offensively. Thats why I think its important to that Roy makes that step.Last edited by utexas; 10-01-2008, 08:36 AM.The Sports Preacher

Re: The Official Portland Trailblazers Thread
us...lol.
Either way you are no better than any bandwagoner out there...If "Leaving" a team that is on the brink of becoming a team that will miss the playoffs in the next few years to all of a sudden root a up and rising team is not bandwagoning I do not know what is. I know you do not need my permission...Nor do I care. You just got to admit what you are doing is infact "bandwagoning".
Hell I bandwagoned on the Blazers in 1997, but I had no team I left to do so...I would still consider myself a bandwagoner because all of a sudden I was hooked. After the third year...I started to get really emotional about it...For you to know how to be a fan of the Blazers...You have to sit atleast ONCE in the Rose Garden crowd..Even if it's in the nosebleeders. The people around you are so involved with the Blazers it's scary.
You got to remember...When you are so passionate about a team...The smallest things tend to annoy you. I been through this team through the good times and bad times...But no matter what I stayed a fan. Going through the adversity of losing...To being the up and rising team in the league is anything more than I could of asked. It's just annoying when people claim they are fans...And they know absolutely nothing about this organization.Comment

Re: The Official Portland Trailblazers Thread
Im a fan of the Blazers but it came more out of respect and how well they used to play against Magic and the Lakers long ago.
On top of that again, out of respect that this is the one team i've seen in years (Listen and learn NYK) that actually started over compltely, tore the team down completely and built it back up to what it is today with a 3 step plan (no high contracts no knuckleheads and no long term deals I believe it was).
The success story is phenomenal and I really think the NBA is dropping the ball by not making a bigger deal out of it.Comment

Most of my friends jumped on the Miami train when they had Wade and shaq and Alonzo...But quickly jumped off.Comment

Re: The Official Portland Trailblazers Thread
Well, I haven't switched.. I've always liked the Blazers style of play.
One because they're always whipping on LA : )
Seriously though, they plan nice solid fundamental team basketball.. and scrappy. Very scrappy, no superstar issues but again i stress that they play great team ball and alway play scrappy.
It's not a one player thing I can pinpoint it to, but the team as a whole. I could just name countless things that accumulatively makes it a fun thing to always watch this team from more than a couple of decades ago until now.
I enjoy basketball, and any team playing like this one does gets my attention. The fans are always great...always and Nate McMillian IMO is an underrated coach.... not one of those coaches that played but still sucks at coaching. He has a knack for the game.Comment

Re: The Official Portland Trailblazers Thread
I am a blazers fan now period, please don't make this thread about you and I, lets move on.
Back to the Brandon Roy discussion for any and all Blazer fans: where does he rank currently? Do you think he will become a superstar or just a solid player?
My top sg list:
Kobe/Wade/AI/T-Mac/J rich/VC/Ray Allen/Manu/Roy/Jooe Johnson/Michael ReddLast edited by utexas; 10-02-2008, 11:35 AM.The Sports Preacher

Re: The Official Portland Trailblazers Thread
Hard to say right now. I hope he can become a superstar player you can build your team around with that formula we now assume (3 star players and pieces to fit), but the team seems to be most effective playing together and letting Roy doing what he does without worrying about being The GuyComment

Re: The Official Portland Trailblazers Thread
Your not a Blazers fan because if you actually knew something about the team you would talk more about other players than Brandon Roy. Saying that Roy ranks up in the top15 in guards.Comment
