Come on, take it easy on the guy. It's not like the Blazers are a guarantee to suddenly be amazing. There are tons of hurdles and unknowns that this team faces. The long term health of Oden will be a question until he proves otherwise. Several core players are have three years left to go on their contracts, but will have a lot to consider before re-signing in Portland.
Portland is the most remote locale now that Seattle has moved, and so travel for the players is the worst in the league, as well Portland, while a great city is not a top draw for players already with the team or looking to sign here. No need to call anyone a bandwagon fan at this point, the Blazers certainly look promising and seem to have all the pieces, but anything could happen, from injuries, to guys jumping ship in a few years, or even the team flat out underperforming.
utexas, I'll try to give you a perspective on some of the hostiliy shown towards you. Here in Oregon since there are no other major pro sports teams, the Blazers dominate the sporting landscape and psyche of Oregonians. It's one of the most underrated fan cultures I've seen in sports. I know people that I would never expect to even like sports who are diehard Blazer fans, so you have to understand that there are going to be some who project an insular attitude about a team they feel so strongly about. For fans who love the team the way Oregonians do, they have been through some painful times and so now with the prospect of the team being better I'm sure you can understand the fear of bandwagoners who didn't have to go through the emotions of the most recent debacle with the "Jail Blazers."
I say if you want to support the Blazers give it a shot, watch the games see if it ignites a passion for you. Hopefully you can come to really enjoy being a Blazers fan.
