Re: Boxing Off-Topic
To me, Manny didn't look good in that bout, Matthysse just looked bad. Really bad. "Needs to retire immediately" bad. Matthysse is just a wisp of a shell of what he once was and has been that way for some time. He really hasn't been the same guy since the Garcia fight, in retrospect.
Re: Tessitore, he's not bad on college football. The announcers for MNF make no difference to me in general. I actually liked Dennis Miller; I mean, it's football, it's entertainment, I liked the constant joking and snide comments. When the game got boring, at least Miller would keep it semi-entertaining. Unless the color team is really going to go hard into the nuts-and-bolts of the play-calling (which I'd love but almost never happens...Romo isn't bad at it, but can't think of too many others that I actually learn something from), I'd rather they just be funny and/or entertaining.
BTW, Miller has a pretty funny anecdote about his time on MNF in one of his stand-up routines, if you ever happen to be channel surfing and see it on HBO or whatever.Comment

I never thought he was entertaining but I must confess to being biased-I simply can't stand this guy. He's the epitome of a pompous pseudo-intellectual.Comment

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
i guess the producers wanted to try some comic relief for possible boring games but if they match two good teams (or rivals), you won't have to worry about that....Comment

This is a false dawn. Nothing more. Quality welters like Crawford, Spence or Thurman would destroy this diminished Pacquiao.Xbox Live: pk4425Comment

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
Top Rank handles all boxing content for ESPN, so ESPN essentially is just a promotional vehicle for Top Rank. Tessitore, Bradley and Kriegel essentially are Top Rank shills, pushing all narratives the promotional company desires HARD on the air.
Tessitore was far more objective and less histrionic when he called "Friday Night Fights" with Teddy Atlas. That was a straight ESPN production, so the Worldwide Leader wasn't a puppet of one promotional company like it is now.

The problem isn't Tessitore. He's a very good announcer. The problem is ESPN's relationship with Top Rank.

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
Lol I agree with this and I dont get all the sudden Pac hype..Mathassye was washed and was a literal punching bag...even with that I saw a much slower Pac who clearly doesnt have the vaunted quickness foot speed or reflexes he had even a year ago...I love to analyze fights and picture matchyps. He would get picked apart and get stopped by any top welterweight..His best bet is to fight a Broner who lets you get off for 6 rds..and doesnt take risks..Pacs f8ght needs to get put in perspective..it was a good win against a lifeless opponent .his delusion is going to get him out to sleep..THANKS FOR THE TRADE SANDIEGO KEEP RIVERS WE'LL TAKE ELIComment

(although maybe the more apt metaphor is "Mean" Gene Okerlund isn't going to criticize the WWF on the air during a broadcast....or whoever does that stuff now, I'm obviously way out of the loop on wrestling LOL)

You will never see that fight. Pac is already trying to pay his IRS debt and then some with a Floyd Mayweather rematch.Comment

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
I can't see how anyone could disagree with this. That is what is happening. There's a long-term fiduciary connection between Top Rank and ESPN, and that changes the fundamental nature of the relationship. CBS and Fox aren't going to rip the NFL on their NFL broadcasts. Same principle applies here.

That was my take on Dennis Miller. And obviously I was in the vast minority of people that enjoyed him on MNF. But I totally understand that he's a love-him or hate-him type of person and I can see how he could be really grating to people.
His delusion, and that of casual fight fans, is going to continue to get him paid though...$$$ If we've learned nothing else in our collective time paying attention to the fight game, it's that the only thing that matters is who is getting paid and how much.THANKS FOR THE TRADE SANDIEGO KEEP RIVERS WE'LL TAKE ELIComment
