When you knock your opponent down an option appears on your grapple HUD as you go for GNP ...just flick your right stick to it and the animation will commence ...usually one gate .

How do you (reliably) take someone down after catching a body kick? Like, so I go down with them into half guard.

Every now and then my guy will try but the game crashes and resets us to the beginning again If I do the uppercut on the other side, I sweep their leg but dont follow them. Finally actually asking the way cos I cant figure it out lol

This is a great video about head movement in MMA. A lot of this sctuslly translates to the game:

...precision beats power and timing beats speed... and realism beats meta.

How do you guys deal with guys who constantly move backwards post patch? Before the patch I had trouble with guys who would constantly moved backwards and wait for me to attack so they could counter or they'd move back, suddenly plant their feet, throw a quick combo and continue to move back, I was able to deal with them by mixing the jab/straight, jab/body straight and the jab/straight/body uppercut but ever since the newest patch by the time I got to the 3rd strike in my combo they are already out of reach and when I try to mix head and body I come to almost a complete stand still, thanks for any suggestions

Cut off the cage. With the new patch, it's a lot easier if you know what you're doing to use angles and cut off the cage against your opponent. So when I come across that style that's what I do. There's only so far back they can move until they hit the cage... as they are moving back if they try to circle out, cut them off, and once they are up against the cage with nowhere to go as your cutting off their ability to circle out left or right, then you're in a very advantageous position.

That's when I'll plant, throw combos, work the body, then back out (because now you have all the room. The cage is yours). Then when they go to throw, I'll step back and make them miss, keep cutting off the cage as they try to gain more space, and then go back in and hammer them, rinse and repeat.

So let them move back. Don't follow them with strikes because you'll just miss and be open to counters. Follow them as they move back and cut off the cage. Then when they are pretty much trapped, let loose.

Noticed someone suggested ducking down before going for the take-down gives you grapple advantage - this was definitely the case in UFC 2.

After practicing this in Practice Mode, I cannot see any grapple meter being effected by the ducking etc. Am I missing something here?

Only effect on grapple meter I can see is when ducking and opponent throws and misses a strike. Is the duck, take-down only effective if the opponent throws and misses?

Attack the body until you can time a feint body attack, anytime you or the opponent is blocking the body the other has massive advantage. You can also use this low block against the AI in UT challenges to draw them in close, if the computer keeps running away.

Kk so L1+ rs doesnt do anykind of submission or reversal ?? I know that's how you sweep on the ground
just trying to figure out why they put that in the controls especially under stand up grapple defense

                            Thanks.
The submissions that require L1+L2 (just like the advanced takedowns) are the ones from inside the clinch like the flying guillotine, flying armbar, all the flying stuff. Triangle, mighty mouse's Wiz bar. Those are all pulled off from being in a certain clinch position, (different positions pull off different submissions and not all fighter have the same ones or any). But any of the submission type fighters have um.

But yeah you do those in the clinch. Lets say you're ortega and you want to get a flying armbar, you have to be in double under (or over under one of those, check his move list) and then press L2+L1 to bring up the submission choice (you have to press the L1 with L2 fast to see the submission appear and then move the right stick in the direction it's telling you). if you wait too long to engage the L2 and L1 buttons to show the advanced moves and subs pressing the buttons again wont work. It has to be basically as soon as you transition into the position you need to be in to perform the sub. Another example is mighty mouse's wiz bar he's gotta be in back clinch. Theres many more.

Here's a clip of how to do the wiz bar with mighty mouse (but all L1 flying submissions are done same way, just in a various clinch positions)

Looking for help with something on the ground. I constantly arm trap guys who are really good at holding postured up position. They will block every single transition I attempt to make, and it seems nearly impossible to fake transitions when your opponent is postured up in full guard. So my only option seems to be an arm trap if they're good enough at denying. Now when I arm trap some guys I seem to get the transition advantage and can sweep them to full mount or half guard or whatever it is.. but then others seem to recover from the arm trap and transition right back to postured up guard before I can even fill my transition meter. Am I doing something wrong here? What's the secret? I feel like I should have a pretty decent grapple advantage after my arm trap but clearly I'm wrong?
