Re: UFC 2009 Undisputed Demo Impressions

I'm hoping that in the final game we'll find out that ratings really matter.

It's hard to say with two fighters - and what seem like problems might not be problems. I mean, Liddell hasn't been submitted since 1999 - so it's not unrealistic to just not be able to get him locked up.

On the other hand - maybe when we have more fighters we'll see that people with low submission defense are a lot easier to wrap up, as opposed to how it seems impossible now.

I really want to get the full game and see how the Lightweights fight too. Less power, but faster and more agile should be a lot of fun. I expect less knockouts, and more submissions and perhaps decisions.

I really want to see how the full game plays with more fighters; I'm hoping some of the "man, it's impossible to do this" things are because of the fighters we have now - and other fighters with different strengths and weaknesses will really react differently. Perhaps fighting against someone like Houston Alexander, we'd see a lot more submissions from Rua.

I agree subbing AI is a little ridiculous (granted, subbing Liddell isn't exactly a walk in the park IRL). But in multiplayer I find it's balanced. In most of my fights as Shogun I've won via submission vs. other humans. In the late rounds, after some hectic beating to the body and the legs I can almost guarantee I'll lock in a sub if I can get the right position.

Yeah, I guess my biggest complaint is I don't think the ratings should have as big of an impact when the dude should be exhausted. Chuck should be hard to take down when he's fully healthy, but when the dude has been kicked in the side about 100 times in 2 rounds, he shouldn't be able to stuff takedown attempts and get out of leglocks and armbars like they're nothing.

I don't know if I was just imagining things but it seems like the rate your stamina goes down with each swing or hit you take and the amount you do to the CPU is directly effected by the difficulty level. If that's also the case for humans, hopefully you can set the difficulties online and play on advanced or expert. Advanced seems to be the most balanced to me.

This game looks insane. I'm surprised just how deep the tutorial is. It will be a while before I get everything down, but I can tell already that I will be playing this a lot.
Glad to see you on board pappy. Look forward to some battles between us

Let me play devils advocate. I havent seen alot of people with great submission defense get submitted because of exhaustion. Most of the
time its because they made a mistake. Ive said this before if in the full game I'm fighting Houston Alexander with Rua and I cant submit him easilly....this game will be usless for me off line.

Experienced seems like the most realistic to me. Its too difficult to counter takedowns on advance.

Holy crap this is fun. I love the ground game, even against the AI... but I'm gonna have to get my friend to come over so I can submit him, because neither guy is going for it right now hah.. I've ended a few fights with crazy flying knees or high kicks, but the fun ones were when it goes to the ground and one of us gets pounded into mincemeat.

I've been playing on the 2nd level, but I think I'm gona bump it up and see how long I can last. I managed to avoid Shogun's takedowns (he was trying them every 15 seconds it seemed) the last fight and ended up rocking him with a spinning backfist then a hard leg kick and a high kick finished him off.. he leaned into it and it caught him perfect with the shin... I cringed. Still on my quest to submit someone... I thought I had Rua the last fight but he managed to reverse me before I locked the armbar in... the bastard.

I wonder if we are going to be able to create guys and take them online? If so, a league full of created players could be a blast!

The only thing this game is missing is the Nick Diaz "hands in the air" taunt for my CAP of him lol.

Re: UFC 2009 Undisputed Demo Impressions

I can pretty much win with Chuck everytime in advanced. Standing and banging is pretty simple. Take down defense is good for chuck, only time i manage to get taken down is mid throw of a big shot. So once to twice a fight. I have been submitted with a arm bar by him but most of the time I can get out and drop him in the stand up.

Rua on the other hand is a completely different beast. His stand up is pretty average and Chuck pretty much dominate in the stand up. But I have figure out the game pretty well so i can mix things up pretty quick and fluid now. Which I am starting to notice is key. Throwing a inside leg kick then thinking ahead to shoot right after when he is stunned is pretty much what you gotta do. But one step ahead all the time.

I just went to a 3 round war with Chuck. I managed to dominate him on the ground, just pounding him out. I got his back in the 2nd applied a body triangle, landed some shots for a while then went for the submit. He spun around and landed in my guard. He let me up, as soon as I gt up he hits me with a left elbow. Sending me to the mat, Rogan hollars "He is hurt....bad". I quickly recover and cover up, chuck rushes in on me and I nail him with a up kick.

he backed off and I got back to my feet. 3rd round was more of the same. I took him down, pounded him out, did not allow him to kick me off like always. Dragged him in the corner of the cage and hammer fisted him with some big ground game. I managed to get the mount after a "major" pass. I dropped some big elbows. He works me off and gets back to his feet. The bell rins and we going to the cards.

                      Chuck - 29
                      Rua - 28

                      Chuck - 28
                      Rua - 28

                      Chuck - 29
                      Rua - 28

I got robbed!!!!!!!! I controlled the fight, dominated on the ground, did pretty decent in the stand up. Only thing was i got caught in the 2nd and rocked to the mat. I wonder if that was the reason

Just played the demo for 2 hours and am excited for the release. They have put down the foundation for a great game for many years to follow. Good luck matching what's in place EA!

This game is awesome, can't wait until the release date. Not sure how fun it would be just playing random players online. When the game comes out, anyone that wants to play, I will be up for it.

Oof, I just got absolutely wrecked by Chuck after bumping the difficulty up to Advanced. I was dominating most of the fight, the left side of his face was really purple/swollen, and I had taken him down several times each round, usually delivering some punishment along the way. Well I got him down again and he managed to reverse me and get a mount.,, my feeble block attempt worked for 2 blows, but the 3rd caught me square on the jaw and that was it. Thought I had that one, but that one moment of advantage was all he needed to get me.

The unpredictibility of this game is great. I still haven't seen a submission either way, but I haven't played against Shogun on the highest difficulty levels... hopefully he'll catch me with one. I feel like I know what I'm doing on the ground and soften them up sufficiently, but the holds just won't stick.

Can't wait for the full roster, CAP, and online play... should be amazing. It went from "I'll check it out" to "Day 1 buy" for me after playing this demo today.

Just played my roommate about 15 straight matches, and man is this game fun.

He only beat me twice (he sucks ) but both times he submitted me with Lidell with an armbar and a kimora (sp?)...We've already made this game the house argument decider.
