Re: UFC 2009 Undisputed Demo Impressions

I've found my new game. I got the demo without PO from Gamestop and I will say, this game has got my full undivided attention. This is a def day 1 purchase. COD W@W is being sold and I'm all over this game.

I would really be interested in playing online against some fellow OS's. The only dilema I face is which system to buy it for. PS3 or 360. Which ever the case, I look forward to seeing you guys in the cage.

Re: UFC 2009 Undisputed Demo Impressions

I submitted Chuck last night on Advanced. I came out with a game plan of throwing some leg kicks to Chucks body, some inside leg kicks to setup the quick jab and then shooting for the take down. I mixed it up all fight. Some times I would lead off with a big kick to Chucks ribs, other times I would step in with the probing jab strikes. I had the computer very lost lol. Chuck did not throw the superman punch or the spinning backfist but maybe twice all match. He surprisingly spent most of his time going backwards.

First round I was having great success with the strong kick to the ribs, but was having a terrible time getting the take down. I could not put a time to his throws so I was forced to just go for take downs after a quick 1..2. then shoot on him. He stuff most of those attempts. But late in the first I manage to take him down next to the cage and got in a good 45 secs of ground and pound from the guard. Preventing him from kicking me off till the bell sounded.

Second round, I continued with the strong leg kicks to the ribs. I started to notice some purple and pink on his rib cage so I knew the stamina had to be getting low. So instead of shooting on him this round. I got right inside close on him (Very dangerous). I caught him with a elbow and then grabbed him with the Muay Thai clinch, I managed to get in some big elbows to the head and body before being pushed off. Mid way through the round I clinch and went for the take down. I landed in Chucks guard, quickly passed to side control off a great "major" pass right at impact from the take down. From there I kept him again on his back for a good 2:00s. I got in a good ground and pound and cutting Chuck on his lower left eye with a elbow.

3rd round was great to see. I came out threw some big body shots again and this is where it got interesting. I hit him with a "quick stike" left and it staggered him, but the weird thing is he DID NOT fall. So I shot on him. He stuffed the take down attemt and landed above me. So I pulled guard on him. I landed some quick shots from the bottom. Then he jumped up. But when he got up he was moving at a snails pace, his hands down by his side, breathing like he had no breath left in him. I said ohh yea now is the time. I clinched, dropped down and pulled guard. Went directly into rubber guard and went straight for the triangle. I started spinning my heart out on the stick. Next thing I know he falls over and taps out. I was friggin stoked!!!!!

But the part that amped me up was I did not focus on just body kicks or leg kicks. I just mixed it up, played Rua's game. Used the legs well, the Mauy Thai clinch, and his good ground game to just wear Chuck down. Then the darn struggle on the triangle choke lasted for darn near 30 secs. So glad i finially got a submission on advanced vs a fighter known for not getting submitted.

So you catch him in the clinch with RS up -- how do you drop them down into guard after that? Shogun did to me several times as Chuck, but I couldn't figure out how to do it. "Throw into rubber guard" -- that's LB + major transition, right?

Holy crap this game will break my brain when it comes out with the full roster... so much stuff to remember. At least the mechanics are basically the same, you just have to memorize everyone's special moves... still though, lots of commands. I'm used to NBA 2K9... which is complicated, but not like this.
sucks im on ps3 and will only be able to beat up Dook,

For real man... this game is deep, as far as the moves go. I hope it has a good career mode as well.

Im trying to learn the nuances of the ground game which still has me slightly confused. Lets say i shoot for the takedown with Rua and succeed. Im guessing i land in chucks guard. Now lets say i just want to stay in that position and pound him out a bit, my question is how do i prevent chuck from throwing me off? do i just hold the right stick towards him??

Correct. Pushing the right stick towards him will keep u in that position as you will grab his neck. You have to alternate doing that and ground and pounding him.

Exactly...which makes it like real life where you have to "lay and pray" vs. punch. Punch too much and he can counter with a transition...lay and pray too much and you'll get stood up by Yamasaki.

EXACTLY.......Now I am starting to hear like some of you are finially understanding the chess match ground game I was talking about. I think it is soooo deep and badass. You have to pick your poision, set up transitions, go for sweeps, go for ground and pound, lay and kill time etc etc.

                      Soooo excited over the game.

Agh, I tried so hard last night to get Chuck with a submssion. Glad to hear that you managed it on Advanced, but it's killing me. I had so many fights last night go deep into the 3rd with me punishing him (he was even tired like you talked about) on Experienced, and I still couldn't lock anything in.

Here's a video of Chuck kicking my ***:

                        <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/dYTLH5I27TM&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0x234900&color2=0x4e 9e00"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/dYTLH5I27TM&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0x234900&color2=0x4e 9e00" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Not sure why it stuttered during capture... sorry for the jittery BS.

Haha, yeah, that one was pretty sad... not even one of his crazy bolo punches or a kick to the dome. He just caught me bad with my hands down on the counter.

I wish there was a way to defend against leg kicks... like a "lift lead leg" action (maybe RT + LS away or something) to reduce the damage...

I also miss being able to dodge punches and kicks instead of always blocking them. I'm not missing anything obvious there, am I? The only other way to defend against strikes is to catch them in the clinch with RS as far as I'm aware. The step can sometimes get you out of trouble, but that's not really a dodge in the traditional sense.

The reason I ask is because my friend came over last night and just pounded the crap out of me by kicking like a madman with Chuck -- won via flash KO every time... a constant barrage of kicks to the lower body, then when I'd block low, he'd catch me with a high kick or a superman punch. I should've taken him to the ground more often, but I was determined to find a way to defend against that standing, but obviously didn't have much luck. One square punch from Chuck would lay me out even if I blocked the other 15...

The ability to dodge and check kicks would definitely be nice. This game has a solid foundation, I'm sure it will only get deeper as the series continues.

My goal now is to get a flying armbar submission.
