Re: UFC 2009 Undisputed Demo Impressions
- Landing shots, from the top or bottom
- Transitioning, from bottom or top
- Blocking, from bottom or top
- Transitioning blocking, from bottom or top
Landing punches does damage, but also makes you open for the counter punch OR for a transition.
Blocking is simply to stop any damage from being done, but opens you up for a transition.
Transitioning (aka a Pass) is to change to a more dominate position. This opens both players up for a transition.
Now on to what you were asking about Transition blocking. Once you land either on your back OR in their guard. Holding the right stick TOWARDS the opponent. From guard you will see your guy drop his hands near his knees. The opponent can attempt to kick you off and then it is based on ratings, more often that not you will retain position. Sometimes they will still kick you off. Each position like half-guard, side control, mount, from ya back, etc etc all have different visual cues that you are holding the right stick in the correct direction.
For instance from the bottom. If they are in Half-guard. Holding the right stick towards the opponent will cause your player to wrap his leg around the opponents leg to prevent them from getting to side control. You might see them attempt to pass but your player on his back will raise his knee to prevent the pass.
Transition blocking opens you up to strikes though. So it is a "thinking game" once on the mat. Choose to eat some blows if you know they are about to attempt a pass. Choose to try and block some shots if you think they will sit and wait before the pass, attempt a major transition if you can time it correctly (flicking the right stick).
I hope this helps with the ground game. If you just land in guard and start hammer fisting away the CPU will kick you off pretty quick. Correct way, land in guard. grab the back of the head (holding right stick back), land a few elbows to soften them up, hold back on right stick again to prevent the push off, once they try and you block the attempt, THEN go for the pass while they are stunned. Repeat. Drop some elbows, kidney shots, etc prevent them from trying to get you back into guard by holding right stick.Comment

Re: UFC 2009 Undisputed Demo Impressions
Man is this game random. Got KO'd in the 3rd round 3 fights in a row... Then suddenly I KO Chuck 40 seconds into the fight, then he beats me in the first, and just now I KO'd him 28 seconds in.
It definitely gives you the feel of not knowing what's going to happen. Seems players can take tons of shots one fight, and the next two solid hooks and they're out (that was the last fight... I seriously landed one hook for the KO, and then a second hook as he was falling).Comment

One issue I do have though (and it comes from trying to keep my distance, as you said) is WAY too many special moves. Liddell is constantly throwing Superman punches and spinning backfists.
Something for next year I really want to see is a percentage based system like the NBA games that determines that fighter's most used moves.Comment

Also I have went to the decision 3 times in my last 3 fights on advanced. I know someone mentioned that they thought the time limit being on fast is not a problem. But this is certainly becoming a issue for me in the hard difficulty.
Reason being is eating shots becomes not a option. So when you have someone like Rua and going to spend most the fight shooting in for the take down. Then time becomes a big issue. Mainly because the ground battles can really take up a ton of time fighting for position, holding right stick to control a position, working mins and mins just to make a pass.
My last 3 fights on advanced, both of us after 3 round had no cuts and spent most the fight in the ground game. Landing elbows, hammer fists, here and there but mainly battling for position. I won on points all 3 times. But I hope there is a option for full real fight time. Because I think I will need this.Comment

I can tell off the bat you are throwing "hard power shots" because they attempt the big special moves often after a miss of a hard shot. Try throwing more quick strikes and once you land a few then combo into a power kick or punch. Less misses with the big shots you will see a much lower number of special moves from Chuck.Comment

The AI is pretty smart, if keep chuck off balance with inside leg kicks, then a high kick here and there, then shooting on him etc. You won't see him do those special moves as often.

This game I just paused I'm standing then jabbing, then I stop and he comes in with a spinning back fist to a superman punch, throws another punch, then superman punch again.
It just seems like a little too much (this is on advanced).
Or just now I paused it... Comes in with a SM punch, then throws a hook, then throws a SM punch again, then backs off a bunch and comes flying in with a spinning back fist.
Meanwhile I'm just blocking everything. You'd think that he'd come in more with punches from the head to the body, just working me - instead of trying all these fancy moves.Last edited by MC Fatigue; 04-21-2009, 09:37 AM.Comment

Not really. I'll just be standing there, or keeping a distance, circling. Most of my shots are kicks to the lower leg, and jabs to the stomach. I just go for a big power shot when I know he's totally open.

Re: UFC 2009 Undisputed Demo Impressions
Maybe.
I suck at the ground right now. I get get into decent positions to get some damage, but he gets up really easily. Everytime he tries to kick me off or reverse he does it successfully, so I don't get much done on the ground.Comment
