Re: The career of a man named Lynn - RTTS

As spring training was ending, I was asked by reporters if I knew that the "experts" had stated that I was the #1 starter in the majors. I told them that that's their opinion and that I need to keep up with my training and development so that I can be the best pitcher that I can for the Dodgers. I told them that I didn't care what the experts thought. I just wanted to pitch well for the Dodgers and help out as we strive to get to the playoffs and the World Series.

    First Set of Goals

    2. increase pitching clutch
    3. have an opponent's AVG lower than .290

      Today's Starters
      Dodgers: Ryan (0-0)
      D-Backs: Haren (0-0)

It's opening day and I am scheduled to start the opener at Chase Field as we begin the season facing the defending NL champion Arizona Diamondbacks.

Dan Haren and I got into one of those classic pitcher's duels as both teams are scoreless heading into the 8th inning. We are able to scratch out the first run of the game in the top of the 8th and we head into the bottom of the 9th leading 1-0. I start off the inning with two quick outs then I gave up a single and was pulled for Kuo. Kuo allows the runner to score, to tie up the game, and the game went to the 13th when Arizona is able to push across another run and we lose the season opener, 2-1.

        Today's Starters
        Dodgers: Ryan (0-0)
        Astros: Hill (1-0)

We continue the season beginning road trip and are in Houston to face the Astros. We get on the board first with a run in the top of the 1st but I give up a solo shot to Pence to tie the game. The Dodgers get another run home in the top of the 3rd and it stays 2-1 LA heading into the 7th inning. At the start of the 7th I give up a double to the leadoff batter and was pulled with the score 2-1, Dodgers. The bullpen allows the runner plus two more, to put the Astros in front but then the offense explodes for 5 runs in the 8th and 3 more in the 9th as we win the game, 10-4. I got my first hit of the season and am now batting .167.

          Today's Starters
          Pirates: Maholm (1-0)
          Dodgers: Ryan (0-0)

We are finally home for our first homestand of the season and are hosting the Pittsburgh Pirates. We strike first in the bottom of the 2nd but I allow a few hits in the 3rd and Pittsburgh tied the game. The Dodgers struck for two runs in the bottom of the 3rd to take a 3-1 lead and that was all I needed as I get pulled with 2 on and 2 out in the top of the 7th with us still in front, 3-1. This time the bullpen comes through and I get my first win of the season as LA holds on to win, 3-1.

            Today's Starters

            Padres: Murphy (0-1)
            Dodgers: Ryan (1-0)

The San Diego Padres are in town as we conclude the homestand. It just wasn't my day today as I surrender 9 hits and 3 runs before being pinched hit for in the bottom of the 6th with us losing, 3-0. The Padres score two more runs in the top of the 7th as Paul Murphy completely shuts down our lineup and the Dodgers lose, 5-0.

We are at Petco Park in San Diego to take on the Padres. Again, it was one of those days as I allow 8 hits, including a solo HR by Coles in the 6th, and 4 runs before being pinched hit for in the top of the 7th with the Dodgers down by 2, 4-2. San Diego added another run in the bottom of the 7th and they went on to win, 5-2, as Murphy held us to only the two runs in the top of the 1st.

                          Okay, I get the hint.

My dogs ate my notes from the start of this season but I don't really need them.

I'll just have to put him back in my "rotation" and put the Reds on hold. That means just Coach Knight and L.Nolan Ryan will continue.

                          That's a great picture!

We pick up the story (due to my dogs eating May) at the beginning of June, 2015.

                              6/1/15

My latest goal period has just ended and I reached 5 of the 6 goals.

I was given a new set of goals to reach by the end of the next 3 weeks.

                              1. Increase durability
                              2. Increase pitching clutch
                              3. Maintain h/9
                              4. Have 3 or more quality starts
                              5. Allow 10 or less earned runs
                              6. Have a WHIP lower than 1.000

Colorado (Pauling) @ Los Angeles (Ryan)

We are at home taking on the Colorado Rockies, who are currently ahead of us in the NLW. The offense staked me to a 3-0 lead in the 2nd and it stayed that way until we traded runs with them in the 6th to make it 4-1. I allowed 2 runs in the top of the 7th and then allowed a single, the 12 hit allowed in the game, before being yanked from the mound. The bullpen held on and we won the game, 4-3. During the game I also went 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI and a sac bunt.
