      Game #94

      ARIZONA 4, TORONTO 2 (11)

Phil Gosselin lined a bases loaded walk off single past Troy Tulowitzki.

      7/19/16
Phoenix, AZ (AP) – The Arizona Diamondbacks bullpen gave up a pair of late solo home runs, but the DBacks rallied to defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 4-2 in extra innings at Chase Field. Phil Gosselin lined a bases loaded single to left in the 11th to win it and give the Diamondbacks their third straight win.

The DBacks celebrate another walk off victory.
Arizona (62-32) grabbed the lead in the fifth inning as pitcher Robbie Ray grounded out to second, allowing Ketel Marte to score. He opened the inning with a double and advanced to third on a Socrates Brito flyout.

The Blue Jays would tie it up in the top of the seventh as Troy Tulowitzki hit a solo home run deep into the left field bleachers. It was Tulo's 23rd on the year.

Jake Lamb wasted no time in putting the DBacks back in front in the bottom of the seventh as he led off with an opposite field solo shot to left. It was his 12th on the year and gave the DBacks a 2-1 lead.

It would stay that way into the ninth as Arizona brought on closer Daniel Hudson. Devon Travis spoiled it though, as he led off the ninth with a solo shot to left to tie the game.

In the eleventh, Jean Segura lasered a double into the right field corner to lead off. He advanced to third as Yasmany Tomas grounded out to second. Paul Goldschmidt walked and David Peralta was intentionally walked to load the bases. Phil Gosselin then pinch hit for Jake Lamb and lined the walk off game winning single to left.

Paul Goldschmidt went 0 for 4 with a walk to see his average drop to .312. He is hitting just .104 with four hits over his last ten games.

The quick two game series wraps tomorrow afternoon with Marcus Stroman (9-4, 3.75) facing Rubby De La Rosa (8-2, 2.89).

        Game #95

        TORONTO 2, ARIZONA 1

Kevin Pillar homers off of Nick Vincent in the eighth.

        7/20/16
Phoenix, AZ (AP) – The Arizona Diamondbacks bullpen fell apart for a second straight day, as Nick Vincent came on and allowed two eighth inning runs, and the Diamondbacks fell 2-1 to the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday afternoon. Kevin Pillar broke a 1-1 tie in the eighth, smashing a solo bomb to left to send the Jays to the 2-1 victory.

Yasmany Tomas homered to give the DBacks a first inning lead.
Yasmany Tomas put Arizona up 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning, hitting a long home run into the seats in left.

Rubby De La Rosa was cruising through two innings when he felt something pop in his hip on the first pitch of the third. He left the game and Archie Bardley was called upon in relief. Bradley went five innings, allowing just two hits, leaving after the seventh with Arizona up 1-0.

In the eighth, Nick Vincent came on and gave up a leadoff triple to Russel Martin. Chris Colabello then bounced out to Jean Segura, allowing Martin to tie the game. Kevin Pillar then blasted the first pitch that he saw into the DBacks bullpen to make it 2-1 Jays.

In the ninth, Ketel Marte had to leave the game after diving for a ball at short. It was determined that he bruised some ribs and will likely miss a few days.

The club placed Rubby De La Rosa on the 15-day disabled list after the game with a Flexor strain. They called up Nate Karns from Triple-A Reno. Karns was acquired from Seattle in the A.J. Pollock trade back in mid-June.

              Game #96

              CINCINNATI 7, ARIZONA 6

Joey Votto went deep twice as the Reds took the opener.

              7/22/16
Cincinnati, OH (AP) – The Cincinnati Reds took the opener of their three game weekend series with the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-6 at Great American Ballpark on Friday night. Joey Votto led the way, hitting two home runs and driving in five for the Reds.

David Peralta's two-run shot in the eighth was too little, too late.
Zack Greinke (7-9) struggled once again for the Diamondbacks. He gave up five earned runs in the opening two innings as the Reds grabbed a 5-0 lead. The big blow was a two-out, three-run home run to right on an 0-2 count by Joey Votto.

Arizona (62-33) would rally in this one though. In the fourth, David Peralta tripled home Paul Goldschmidt to get the Diamondbacks on the scoreboard. Yasmany Tomas singled home Peralta to cut further into the Reds lead. After a Phil Gosselin double, Welington Castillo singled home Tomas to cut the Reds lead to 5-3.

In the sixth, Yasmany Tomas blasted a solo home run down the left field line to bring Arizona to within 5-4.

But it was Joey Votto again in the bottom of the seventh. He hit a two-out, two-run home run to center off of reliever Dominic Leone.

David Peralta would get Arizona back to within one in the top of the eighth, hitting a two-run shot to left off of Jumbo Diaz. It was Peralta's 28th on the year.

Brandon Finnegan (3-12) picked up the win for Cincinnati. He went seven innings, allowing four runs on six hits. He struck out three and walked three. Zach Greinke settled down after the second, but he allowed the five earned runs on eight hits over six innings. He struck out four, walking none, as he dropped his eighth decision on the year.

The series resumes on Saturday evening with Patrick Corbin (11-4, 2.86), who is having a great year, against Dan Straily (6-6, 3.59).

                Game #97

                CINCINNATI 9, ARIZONA 2

Devin Mesoraco had a night, hitting three home runs in the Reds win.

                7/23/16
Cincinnati, OH (AP) – The Arizona Diamondbacks dropped their third straight game on Saturday night, falling 9-2 to the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ballpark. But that wasn't the big news, Patrick Corbin left the game in the second inning with an apparent severe lower body injury that may cost him the rest of the season.

Patrick Corbin was carried off the field with a severe hamstring injury.
The Reds (45-53) went HAM on the Diamondbacks pitching in this one, hitting six solo home runs in their victory. Devin Mesoraco hit three and Joey Votto hit two, for the second straight game, as Arizona suddenly finds their two best pitchers heading to the disabled list.

Arizona (62-34) got off to a good start as Socrates Brito lined a two-out, two-run triple in the second inning to give the Diamondbacks a 2-0 lead.

Devin Mesoraco homered to left to open the bottom half of the second. After getting Scott Schebler to line out, Zack Cosart reached on a Chris Owings throwing error. Ivan DeJesus Jr then lined a single to left.

Disaster then struck for the Diamondbacks as Patrick Corbin immediately grabbed at his hamstring after throwing his first pitch to Dan Straily. He had to be carried off of the field and the injury looks very serious. Eugenio Suarez would line a two-out, two-run double to left center to put the Reds up 3-2.

From that point on, the Reds would hit five more solo home runs to win it 9-2. Two were hit off of Randall Delgado, then three were hit in the eighth off of a tired Archie Bradley.

Corbin (11-5) took the loss, going just 1 1/3 innings, allowing three runs, one earned. Randall Delgado pitched well out of the bullpen, going 4 2/3, giving up the two solo home runs and striking out seven.

For the Reds, Joey Votto hit two home runs for the second straight day. He now has 20 on the year. Devin Mesoraco's three home runs give him 17 on the year. Dan Straily (7-6) earned the win, going six innings and allowing two runs.

The Diamondbacks will try to avoid the sweep on Sunday afternoon with Shelby Miller (8-5, 2.74) going up against Ross Ohlendorf (3-3, 4.93).

Notes: Patric Corbin was placed on the 60-day disabled list after the game and may miss the rest of the season. It is hoped that he can return in late September in time for the playoffs. Zack Godley has been recalled from Triple-A Reno. He went (5-1) for the Diamondbacks last year in nine starts. He had an ERA of 3.19. Manager CHip Hale said that Godley will fill the long relief role, while Archie Bradley moves into Corbin's spot in the rotation.

                  ARIZONA 2, CINCINNATI 1 (10)

Chris Herrmann hit the first pitch of the tenth inning into the right field seats.

                  7/24/16
Cincinnati, OH (AP) – The Arizona Diamondbacks used the long ball on Sunday afternoon to rally for a 2-1 extra inning victory over the CIncinnati Reds to avoid the sweep of their weekend series at Great American Ball Park. Chris Herrmann's solo home run to lead off the tenth inning off of reliever Blake Wood helped Arizona salvage the finale.

Paul Goldschmidt is starting to heat up again.
Cincinnati grabbed the lead in the sixth inning on an RBI single from Joey Votto. It was Votto's eighth RBI of the weekend series.

Paul Goldschmidt made sure the lead did not last long, as he homered deep to left center to open the seventh. It was his 21st on the year and first since July 2nd.

The DBacks bullpen was excellent in this one. They went five innings, allowing no runs and only four hits. Tyler CLippard (6-0) picked up the win, picking a perfect ninth, and Daniel Hudson earned his 18th save with a perfect tenth.

Arizona will now head to Milwaukee for a four game series beginning tomorrow evening with Robbie Ray (7-4, 3.00) facing Chase Anderson (3-8, 4.42).

David Peralta opened the eighth with a long solo home run into the right field seats off of reliever Blaine Boyer. They would get a big insurance run with two outs, as Chris Owings singled to left, stole second, and then scored on a Socrates Brito single to make it 4-1.

The DBacks bullpen would give up a pair of solo home runs to get the Brewers back to within 4-3, but they held on for the victory. Tyler Clippard gave up a solo shot in the eighth to Colin Walsh, and Daniel Hudson gave up a solo home run to Chris Carter in the ninth. Hudson picked up his 19th save, striking out Domingo Santana to end the game.

Nate Karns (8-2), recently recalled from Reno, picked up his first win for the DBacks in his debut with the club. He was acquired from Seattle in the A.J. Pollock deal back in June. He picthed six innings, allowing one run on just four hits. He struck out seven and did not allow a walk.

The series continues on Wednesday evening with Zack Greinke (7-9, 3.81) matching up against Chris Capuano (3-2, 2.63).

Chris Carter launches a second inning home run off of Zach Greinke.

Milwaukee, WI (AP) – The Arizona Diamondbacks continue to see their lead in the National League West evaporate. On Wednesday evening, Zack Greinke struggled again as the DBacks got rocked 9-3 by the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park.

Aaron Hill got in on the act, hitting a home run off of his former team in the Brewer rout.
Arizona (64-37) got off to a quick start, taking a 1-0 lead in the first as Paul Goldschmidt singled home Jean Segura. It was Goldschmidt's 72nd RBI on the year.

Chris Carter would tie it up in the bottom of the second, tomahawking a Zack Greinke fastball over the wall in center. It was Carter's third home run in three games and his 19th on the season.

The DBacks would retake the lead in the fourth. David Peralta doubled to open the inning and scored on a couple of ground outs.

The Brewers would then hammer Greinke in the bottom half. Three straight singles would tie the game at two. Colin Walsh then laced a two out, two-run double to left to put the Brewers up 4-2. He would score on pitcher Chris Capuano's RBI single to left.

Aaron Hill hit a two-run home run to left off of Greinke in the sixth to make it 7-2. That was the end for Greinke, who lost his fourth consecutive decision to drop to (7-10).

Back-to-back RBI doubles from Jonathan Villar and Ryan Braun off of reliever Dominic Leone in the seventh put the Brewers up 9-2.

Jake Lamb added a pinch hit, RBI single in the eighth for Arizona, but it was too little, too late.

The loss allowed San Francisco to pull to with two game of the DBacks in the National League West. This series wraps on Thursday with Archie Bradley (2-1, 3.14) going up against Jimmy Nelson (9-6, 2.81).

Milwaukee, WI (AP) – The Arizona Diamondbacks continue to see their lead in the National League West erode. On Thursday afternoon, Jimmy Nelson tossed 6 2/3 innings of shutout baseball as the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 2-0 at Miller Park.

Chris Carter belted a first inning RBI single off of Archie Bradley.
Milwaukee got all the offense that they would need in the bottom of the first as Chris Carter belted an RBI single to left, scoring Ryan Braun to give Milwaukee a 1-0 lead. They would get an insurance run in the sixth as right fielder Domingo Santana doubled home Chris Carter.

Those two runs were more than enough for Jimmy Nelson (10-6) and the Brewers bullpen, as they combined on a six hit shutout. Nelson went 6 2/3 innings, allowing five hits, while striking out three and walking two. Carlos Torres, Corey Knebel and Will Smith pitched the final 2 1/3, allowing just one hit, while striking out two and walking none. Will Smith picked up his 31st save on the season for the Brewers (50-51), who sit seven games out of the National League Wild Card.

Arizona (64-38) will now head to Los Angeles for a three game weekend series with the rival Dodgers (54-48). Shelby Miller (8-5, 2.71) is set to face Kenta Maeda (8-6, 3.77) in game one on Friday night.
