        Game #63

        ARIZONA 6, MIAMI 3

Phil Gosselin homered in the fourth.

        6/10/16
Phoenix, AZ (AP) – The Arizona Diamondbacks won their third straight game on Friday night, defeating the Miami Marlins 6-3 at Chase Field. Shelby Miller was masterful on the mound, going 7 1/3 innings to pick up his sixth victory.

Miami grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth. Giancarlo Stanton single to right, then reached second on a wild pitch. He would score on a Juston Bour double.

Arizona (40-23) would respond in the bottom half. Paul Goldschmidt doubled home A.J. Pollock to tie the game. Yasmany Tomas then tripled off the wall in center to score Goldschmidt. Phil Gosselin followed that up with a home run to left to make it 4-1.

Shelby Miller doubled to lead off the fifth for Arizona. He advanced to third on a single by Jean Segura and scored on an A.J. Pollock sacrifice fly. Paul Goldschmidt would pick up another RBI with a single to right, scoring Segura as Arizona built their lead to 6-1.

Miami would add single runs in the eighth and ninth. Giancarlo Stanton homered to right in the ninth off of reliever Jake Barrett. It was his 17th on the year.

          MIAMI 5, ARIZONA 1

Giancarlo Statnton went deep twice for the Marlins

          6/11/16
Phoenix, AZ (AP) – Giancarlo Stanton homered twice to lead the Miami Marlins to a 5-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday night at Chase Field. Stanton hit his 18th and 19th home runs on the season, driving in three to end the DBacks three game winning streak.

The Diamondbacks took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a Yasmany Tomas RBI single. He drove in Phil Gosselin, who had doubled to open the inning.

Giancarlo Stanton hit a solo home run to left to open the fourth, tying the game at 1-1. Chris Johnson took Robbie Ray deep to right in the sixth. The two-run shot put the Marlins up 3-1. Ray was pitching well, but the two mistakes found him down by two.

Manager Chip Hale stuck with Ray into the seventh, and Ray served up a second home run to Stanton. The two-run shot has the 200th of Stanton's career and put the Marlins up 5-1.

Jarred Cosart (5-3) picked up the win for the Marlins, keeping the Dbacks off balance all night. He went eight innings, allowing just the one earned run and scattering seven hits. He walked three and struck out six.

The series concludes on Sunday afternoon with Adam Conley (3-2, 3.32) facing Rubby De La Rosa (4-1, 4.18).

            MIAMI 6, ARIZONA 2

Justin Bour launches a three run blast in the third inning.

            6/12/16
Phoenix, AZ (AP) – The Miami Marlins won the rubber match of a three game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday afternoon, 6-2 at Chase Field. Juston Bour went 2 for 3 with a double, home run and three RBIs to lead the red-hot Marlins to the series win.

Juston Bour got the Marlins going in the third. He hit a two-out, three run home run to right off of Rubby De La Rosa to put the Marlins up 3-0. It would remain that way until the ninth as Adam Conley was masterful on the bump for the Marlins.

In the ninth, the Marlins would get a huge three additional runs as Jeff Mathis hit a three run home run to left off of reliever Tyler Clippard. It was Mathis' first of the year.

Arizona would rally in the bottom of the ninth, scoring twice, but they could not come all the way back. Phil Gosselin doubled home David Peralta, who opened the inning with a double. Gosselin would score on a Welington Castillo single. Carter Capps came on in relief for the Marlins and shut down the DBacks to end it.

Arizona (40-25) will now host the Los Angeles Dodgers in a three game series to end the homestand.

                  Game #66

                  ARIZONA 5, LOS ANGELES 3 (11)

Welington Castillo wins it in the 11th with a walk-off home run.

                  6/13/16
Phoenix, AZ (AP) – The Arizona Diamondbacks walked it off on Monday night as Welington Castillo went yard in the 11th to defeat the rival Los Angeles Dodgers 5-3 at Chase Field. Castillo took a 2-0 pitch from Pedro Baez and hit it just below the scoreboard in dead center as Arizona ended a two game slide.

Arizona (41-25) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second on a Chris Herrmann, two-out RBI single to center, scoring David Peralta. They would make it 3-0 in the third as Peralta hit a long home run to left. It was his Major League leading 21st on the season.

Zack Greinke was cruising along on the mound, allowing just one hit through the first five innings, sending down 13 straight Dodgers at one point. But that all changed in the seventh. Howie Kendrick singled up the middle to open the inning. Adrian Gonzalez then injured his calf on a swing and miss and had to be carried off the field in pain. His replacement Brandon Hicks drew a walk. Joc Pederson then hit a hanging change-up into the left field seats to tie it up at 3-3.

It would stay tied into the 11th. Chris Herrmann doubled to left to open the inning. Nick Ahmed scarificed him over to third, then Castillo hit the pinch hit game winning home run.

Daniel Hudson (3-1) picked up the win, pitching the 10th and 11th for Arizona.

The series resumes on Tuesday evening with Didgers ace Clayton Kershaw (5-4, 1.76) facing Patrick Corbin (6-4, 3.19).

                    ARIZONA 4, LOS ANGELES 3 (12)

The DBacks mob Welington Castillo after their second straight walk off win.

                    6/14/16
Phoenix, AZ (AP) – The Arizona Diamondbacks walked it off for a second straight night on Tuesday evening as Welington Castillo's 12th inning single drove home Phil Gosselin to send the Dbacks to a 4-3 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers. The extra inning victory was Arizona's third straight extra inning victory over their rivals from Los Angeles.

Los Angeles (33-33) took a 1-0 lead in the third on an Auston Barnes solo home run to left. It was Barnes first career Major League home run. A Scott Van Slyke RBI double in the fifth put the Dodgers up 2-0. WIth Clayton Kershaw on the bump, that 2-0 lead looked insurmountable.

Yasmany Tomas would chip away at that Dodgers lead in the bottom half of the fifth. He hit a hanging slider into the pool area in right to get the DBacks on the board. It was his sixth on the season.

Chase Utley lined a two-out single to left in the sixth, scoring Kiki Hernandez to put the Dodgers up 3-1.

Clayton Kershaw cruised into the eighth inning, allowing just four hits. But Chris Owings would reach on a throwing error from shortstop Brandon Hicks with one out. Kershaw then got pinch hitter Nick Ahmed to pop out. Jean Segura worked the count to 3-1 before hitting a Kershaw fastball into the left field bleachers to tie the game at 3-3.

The Arizona bullpen was solid, setting them up for extra inning heroics. In the 12th, Phil Gosselin lined a two-out double to left. Welington Castillo then hit a Chris Hatcher fastball back up the middle, scoring Gosselin and setting off a celebration at Chase Field.

Clayton Kershaw, leading the National League in ERA, went eight innings and got the no decision. He allowed five hits and just on earned run, while striking out three and not issuing a walk.

Tyler Clippard (2-0) earned the win for Arizona. He pitched the final 2 2/3 innings without allowing a hit.

The series wraps on Wednesday afternoon with Yimi Garcia (3-2, 2.25) going up against Shelby Miller (6-3, 2.69).

                      ARIZONA 6, LOS ANGELES 3

Paul Goldschmidt clears the bases with a double in the third.

                      6/15/16
Phoenix, AZ (AP) – The Arizona Diamondbacks completed a three game sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday afternoon with a 6-3 victory at Chase Field. Paul Goldschmidt led the way with a double, triple and four RBIs.

Arizona (43-25) grabbed the lead in the second inning as Phil Gosselin hit a solo home run to left off of Scott Kazmir. They would break it open in the third as Paul Goldschmidt came up with the bases loaded and cleared them with a double off of the wall in right center.

Paul Segura would make it 5-0 in the fifth, hitting a solo home run to dead center. It was his sixth on the season.

Elian Herrera would break Shelby Miller's shutout in the seventh, hitting a solo home run off of the top of the wall and into the Arizona bullpen.

Paul Goldschmidt would add another RBI to his National League leading total in the bottom of the seventh as he tripled to center, scoring Socrates Brito.

Jake Barrett came out of the Diamondbacks bullpen and once again struggled. He allowed two solo home runs in the eighth to Trayce Thompson and Joc Pederson. It saw his ERA balloon to 9.64.

Daniel Hudson came on in the ninth, and gave up back-to-back singles to open the inning. But he would get out of the jam to earn his 7th save as Arizona ended their nine game homestand at (6-3). The first-place Diamondbacks will now head out on a 10 game road trip to Philadelphia, Toronto and Colorado.

                            ARIZONA 6, PHILADELPHIA 5

Yasmany Tomas hits the go ahead solo home run in the top of the eighth.

                            6/17/16
Philadelphia, PA (AP) – Yasmany Tomas' solo home run in the top of the ninth sent the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 6-5 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park on a rainy Friday evening. The win was the DBacks fourth straight and stretched their lead in the National League West to four and a half games.

This one was a back and forth affair throughout.

Jean Segura homered again and has had a sudden power surge as of late.

Arizona (44-25) opened the scoring in the top of the first. Jean Segura walked and reached second on a passed ball. He would score on a David Peralta double off of the glove of right fielder Wil Venable. The Phillies would tie it up in the bottom half as Venable made up for his defensive play with a solo home run to left off of Robbie Ray.

Yasmany Tomas led off the second with a single to left. He reached second after a dropped third strike on Chris Herrmann and advanced to third on a wild pitch. He would score on a Nick Ahmed ground out.

Philadelphia (26-42) would level the score again in the third as Cesar Hernandez laced a two out single to right, scoring Wil Venable, who opened the inning with a double. The Phillies would grab the lead with an unearned run in the fourth. Freddy Galvis reached on an error from Nick Ahmed, then scored on a Carlod Ruiz double to center.

Arizona would waste no time in retaking the lead. Jean Segura hit a solo home run with two outs in the fifth off of reliever Brett Oberholtzer. Then, Goldy doubled and scored on an RBI single from David Peralta to put Arizona back up 4-3.

A Freddy Galvis solo home run to left in the sixth off of Robbie Ray tied the game at 4-4.

Yasmany Tomas put Arizona back in front in the top of the eighth. He hit a solo home run to right off of reliever James Russell. It was Tomas' sixth on the season. But the Phillies got that back in the bottom half, thanks to a two-out pinch hit RBI single from veteran Ryan Howard off of Tyler Clippard.

Chris Owings lined a one-out triple to center in the top of the ninth off of former Diamondback David Hernandez. A.J. Pollock then hit a sacrifice fly to center to put the Dbacks up 6-5. Daniel Hudson came on in the bottom half and pitched a perfect ninth to earn his eighth save.

The series continues on Saturday afternoon with Rubby De La Rosa (4-2, 4.27) going up against Charlie Morton (3-5, 3.84).

After that big third inning, there wasnt much offense to be found from either club. Pollock Traded

A.J. Pollock has been slumping, and the Mariners called with a big offer.[/center]

                                6/18/2016
Phoenix, AZ (AP) - The Seattle Mariners picked up the phone and called the Arizona Diamondbacks about the availability of All-Star outfielder A.J. Pollock. Before the season, he may have been considered an untouchable, but GM Dave Stewart has seen his club blossom into a contender and adding the pieces offered by the M's only made sense.

On Sunday evening the teams agreed to a deal that sent All-Star A.J. Pollock to Seattle in exchange for starting pitcher Nate Karns, setup man Nick Vincent, and 22-year-old shortstop Ketel Marte.

Pollock has struggled as of late, hitting .253 on the season in 265 at bats, the lowest average since his rookie campaign. He had six home runs and 19 RBIs to go along with 14 stolen bases.

Nick Vincent is a 29-year-old setup man, having picthed 20.0 innings for Seattle in 2016, going (0-2) with an ERA of 4.50. He has six holds and one blown save.

Nate Karns was (7-2) for the M's with an ERA of 2.41. He had 76 strikeouts and 45 walsk in 101 innings of work. The DBacks have assigned him to Triple-A Reno.

The key piece in the trade for the DBacks was the acquisition of 22-year-old shortstop Ketel Marte. The switch hitting middle infielder fills a hole at shortstop for Arizona since they traded away last year's top pick Swanson Dansby to Atlanta. Marte was hitting .276 with three home runs and 20 RBIs in 57 games for Seattle in 2016.

In the outfield, Socrates Brito and Chris Owings will likely split time in the departure of Pollock.

Marte and Vincent were expected to be available for Sunday afternoon's game in Philadelphia.
