    Game #118

    ARIZONA 6, NEW YORK 5

David Peralta blasted his 33rd home run on the season.

    8/15/16
Phoenix, AZ (AP) – The Arizona Diamondbacks won their third straight game on Monday night, rallying to defeat the New York Mets 6-5 at Chase Field in downtown Phoenix. David Peralta led the charge going 2 for 4 with a double, home run and an RBI.

Shelby Miller also got in on the act at the plate, driving in a run with this RBI single.
The New York Mets (67-51) came out and struck early, scoring three times in the top of the first off of Shelby Miller. David Wright doubled to open the game, reached third on a ground out and scored on a wild pitch. Travis d'Arnaud then hit a two run blast to center to put the Mets up 3-0 before Arizona even came to the plate.

Arizona would get on the board in the third. Jacoby Ellsbury hit a ground-rule double into the pool area to score Nick Ahmed. Paul Goldschmidt then grounded out to second to score Shelby Miller to close the gap to 3-2.

David Peralta would open the third with a long home run into the bleachers in right to tie the game. Pitcher Shelby Miller then lined a one-out single up the middle to score Phil Gosselin. Nick Ahmed would score as Jacoby Ellsbury beat out a possible inning-ending double play, to make it 5-3 Arizona.

The DBacks would extend their lead to 6-3 in the fifth on a Jake Lamb RBI double to center, scoring David Peralta, who had doubled before him.

Heath Spencer and Yeonis Cespedes each hit solo home runs for the Mets in the sixth and seventh to cut the DBacks lead to 6-5. Andrew Chafin and Daniel Hudson then shut down the Mets, getting the final six outs to preserve the victory and move the DBacks back to within a game of the first place Giants in the National League West.

Shelby Miller (10-6) picked up the win, going 6 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on five hits. He struck out six and walked one. Paul Goldschmidt went 0 for 4, but did drive in a run, his 80th on the season.

The series continues on Tuesday evening with Robbie Ray (7-7, 3.83) going up against the Mets ace Matt Harvey (10-5, 2.97).

Notes: Phil Gosselin left the game in the fifth inning. He broke his left wrist sliding into third and was replaced by Yasmany Tomas. Gosselin will likely be done for the rest of the season, but may be able to return if the DBacks make the playoffs.

      Game #119

      NEW YORK 2, ARIZONA 1

Matt Harvey pitched a gem to help the Mets move closer in the Wild Card race.

      8/16/16
Phoenix, AZ (AP) – The New York Mets got a great pitching performance from their ace Matt Harvey as they edged the Arizona Diamondbacks 2-1 on Tuesday evening at Chase Field. Havey tossed seven innings, allowing just one run on three hits, while striking out five and walking two to earn his 11th win on the season.

Michael Conforto homered in the first off of Robbie Ray.
The Mets once again grabbed the lead before Arizona even picked up their bats. Michael Conforto hit a first inning bomb to dead center, his 12th on the year to put the Mets up 1-0.

Arizona would tie it up in the bottom of the second as Matt Harvey made his only mistake of the evening. David Peralta blasted a 2-2 hanging curveball into the seats in right to tie the game at 1-1. It was his 34th on the year.

Both starters pitched well in this one. It was 1-1 in the sixth when Juan Lagares laced a 3-2 fastball off the wall in center for a leadoff double. He advanced to third on a passed ball, and scored on a Michael Conforto groundout to Paul Goldschmidt.

Meanwhile the Mets bullpen was stellar. Addison Reed pitched the eighth and close Juerys Familia worked the ninth. Familia picked up his 28th save on the season, allowing Paul Goldschmidt to reach, but getting Brian McCann to pop out and David Peralta to ground into a fielder's choice to end the game.

The loss left the DBacks a game back of the Giants, who also lost.

This series wraps on Wednesday evening with Nate Karns (8-4, 2.56) taking the bump for the DBacks against Jacob deGrom (7-4, 2.06).

          Game #120

          NEW YORK 6, ARIZONA 1

Jacob deGrom spun a gem as the Mets took the rubber match to pull into a Wild Card tie.

          8/17/16
Phoenix, AZ (AP) – The New York Mets got a masterful pitching performance from Jacob deGrom on Wednesday evening as they defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-1 at Chase Field to pull into a tie for the National League Wild Card lead. deGrom tossed 8 1/3 innings, allowing just one run and scattering six hits to pick up his eighth win on the season.

Yeonis Cespedes took Archie Bradley deep in the seventh.
For the third consecutive game, the Mets scored in the top of the first innings. This time it was three runs on five hits off of Nate Karns. Neil Walker reached on an infield single that deflected off of Karns with one out. Yeonis Cespedes then lined a single to left. Michael Conforto then chopped one to the left side that Karns fielded but had no play on, allowing Walker to score. Travis d'Arnaud followed that up with a hard single up the middle to score Cespedes. Wilmer FLored then lined a two-out single to right to score Conforto and the Mets had a 3-0 lead.

Jacob deGrom brought his A-game and made those three runs stand up. He would get some additional help in the sixth. Alejandro de Aza scored on a passed ball, and pitcher Jacob deGrom helped his own case as he lined a two-out single to center to put the Mets up 5-0.

Yeonis Cespedes would hit a solo shot into the Mets bullpen in the seventh off of reliever Archie Bradley to put the Mets up by six.

Arizona (69-51) would finally break the shutout in the top of the ninth as Paul Goldschmidt doubled home Ketel Marte. It was Goldy's 81st RBI on the season.

The loss dropped Arizona into a tie with the Mets for the top Wild-Card spot in the National League as both teams have identical (69-51) records with 42 games left in the regular season. Arizona now heads to San Diego for a four game weekend series, with the Mets traveling to San Francisco.

                ARIZONA 3, SAN DIEGO 2

David Peralta hit a long home run off of the Western Metal Supply Company building.

                8/18/16
San Diego, CA (AP) – The Arizona Diamondbacks opened a four game series in San Diego with a 3-2 victory over the Padres at Petco Park on Thursday evening. Michael Pineda picked up his third win as a DBack, tossing seven shutout innings, scattering six hits and striking out six to pick up his 12th win on the season.

Michael Pineda has allowed just one earned run in four starts since coming over from the Yankees.
Arizona (70-51) broke a scoreless tie in the fourth on a couple of blasts. Paul Goldschmidt led off the inning with a home run to center, his 25th on the season. After Brian McCann walked on four pitches, David Peralta hit a moon shot off of the Western Metal Supply Company building in left to make it 3-0. It was Peralta's 35th home run on the season.

Pineda pitched seven innings, then turned it over to the bullpen after giving up a walk and double to open the eighth. Nick Vincent was able to work his way out of the inning without giving up a run.

Daniel Hudson came on in the ninth and struggled. He gave up a single to John Jay and double to Cory Spangenberg. He was able to strike out Brett Wallace, and got Yangervis Solarte to bounce back to him for an out. He had Alexei Ramirez down 1-2 before he lined a two-run single to center to cut the lead to 3-2. Hunter Renfroe then lined a single off of Yasmany Tomas' glove in left field.

Tyler Clippard was brought in and got Melvin Upton Jr. to fly out to right to end the game.

The win kept the DBacks just a game back of the Giants in the National League West, and moved them into the National League Wild Card lead.

Andrew Cashner (10-8) was the hard luck loser for the Padres. He struggled a bit though, only lasting five innings and allowing the three runs on four hits. He struck out four, but also walked four.

The series resumes on Friday night with Rubby De La Rosa (8-3, 3.17) going up against Robbie Erline (5-8, 3.26)

Socrates Brito reached on a throwing error by Cory Spangenberg, allowing Yasmany Tomas to score in the ninth..

                            8/21/16
San Diego, CA (AP) – The Arizona Diamondbacks used a ninth inning rally to slip past the San Diego Padres 6-5 on Sunday afternoon at Petco Park. Paul Goldschmidt's three-run home run in the seventh tied the game and setup the DBacks to take three of four in the weekend series from San Diego.

Paul Goldschmidt hit a game tying three run blast in the seventh off of Drew Pomeranz.
This was a wildly entertaining game. Arizona grabbed a lead in the top of the first on Brian McCann sacrifice fly to right, scoring Socrates Brito.

The Padres answered in the bottom half of the first as Wil Myers jacked a long two-run home run to left off of Robbie Ray.

In the fourth, just called up Rickie Weeks hit a tapper between the mound and third that allowed Paul Goldschmidt to score to tie the game at 2-2.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Padres did some two-out damage.
