I wonder if VMI will be getting any invitations to the invitational tournaments since we got to the sweet sixteen. I also wonder if getting to the sweet sixteen will have an effect with recruiting. There weren't many HS seniors who wanted to come to VMI (50%+ interest) who also fit my priorities. (Why my "scouts" contacted a couple of players with an intelligence grade of D, I'll never know.)
Yeah, sometimes I wonder about scouting. Either my coaches know something I really don't know, or they are smarter than me and realize which players I have a chance at, or they sometimes simply ignore my orders.

As for tourneys, my experience is that they do not rotate teams. As ORU I could go to the preseason NIT every year if I wanted. I think it is totally reasonable with a strong finish and returning nearly everyone that you would get an invite, so I say pick a tourney you want to attend and add it to your schedule. I see no problem in letting the game be fun.

        Recruiting

Recruiting didn't go as planned. With only two scholorships and high school seniors ducking our military school, the two players that were offered declined and opted to go to Ball State and Appalachian State instead.

We did, however, have five walk ons with only one spot available on the bench. The others will have to live with being members of our reserve squad.

        Immanuel Forte - Center

Out of these five shmucks, I am leaning towards Borders as being the 12th man on the bench. Although Forte's overall is higher (53 to 51), Borders looks to be a better shooter and defender than Forte.

Looks like you didn't exactly get what you wanted in the recruiting period. Good luck in the Paradise Jam Tournament!

By the way, are you thinking about moving on to greener pastures if you have another good season?

Well, I don't want to start spreading any rumors, but, if a higher level school comes calling, I'll think about it. (meaning yes if mid-major, major or power levels desire my services)

BTW, the WVU Mountaineers and the OSU Cowboys are also down here on the island of St.Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands. (Although in the game, however, we are playing in Tampa, Florida)

Lexington, VA - Midnight madness has arrived on the campus of Virginia Military Institute in a huge way as 45% of the stands are filled, double from last year, in anticipation of the upcoming season for the Keydets. A surprise trip to the NCAA sweet sixteen can have that effect on others and expectations are high on campus in hopes of another trip to the "Big Dance".

Four of the five starters from last season have returned as well as everyone that was on the bench last season, including both assistant coaches. All four will be starting again and will be joined by senior forward Travis Holmes as he is promoted from last season's sixth man role to that of starting small forward.
