          He certainly is one big kid in this game, just as in real life. I guess that 8-29 isn't too shabby. Sargent & Brownfield played him well and most of my players have picked up a couple of points of progression in defensive awareness this season. George did, however, block 4 shots and had 19 rebounds (3 offensive) in the two games. Hopefully we can contain him again if the teams meet during the Big South tournament.

            Lexington, VA - Coach Bob Knight stated that since the team has a two game lead in the conference standings, senior Reggie Williams will be relegated to the end of the bench and junior forward Travis Holmes, junior guard's Chavis Holmes' twin brother, will be starting in his place.


            (This may not be pretty, folks, with the Winthrop Eagles up next on the schedule)

                Brownfield nails a short turnaround jumper and after Jenkins and Travis Holmes trade 3pters, Jenkins sinks a jumper. McCullough puts in a layup on a fast break and lays in a rebound to give Winthrop a four point lead, 9-5, with just under 15:00 remaining. Gaynor makes two free throws and after Chavis Holmes lays in a rebound, Jenkins drains two free throws. Chavis Holmes lays in a rebound then after Jenkins hits a 3pter, Sargent lays in a rebound. Faison swishes a short jumper and banks in a layup then Vil banks in a layup on a fast break and Faison buries a 3pter as the Eagles are on a 9-0 run and now lead by 14, 25-11, halfway through the first half. Gaynor makes 1 of 2 free throws and after Lonon drains a runner, McCullough sinks two free throws. Jenkins converts a 3-point play then after Brownfield swishes a turnaround jumper, Buechert nails a hook. Travis Holmes cans 1 of 2 free throws and after he drops in two more, Harris hits a jumper to give Winthrop a 17-point lead, 35-18, with just over 5:00 to go. Chavis Holmes makes two free throws then after McEachin tips in a rebound, Travis Holmes and Jenkins trade layups. Kenon drains a 3pter and after Hall banks in a layup, Kenon and Trent trade jumpers as VMI is up by one, 17-16, halfway through the opening half.                             First Half

                            Chavis Holmes makes two free throws and after Monroe lays in a rebound, Travis Holmes sinks a turnaround jumper and Chavis Holmes nails a hook. Jenkins puts in a layup then after McLean banks in a turnaround jumper, Chavis Holmes and Baker trade 3pters and the game is tied, 9-9, with just over 15:00 remaining. Travis Holmes makes two free throws then Jones and Campbell each sink turnaround jumpers to give Liberty the lead, 13-11, halfway through the opening period. Holland makes 1 of 2 free throws and Smith banks in a turnaround jumper then after Travis Holmes and McLead trade a pair of free throws, Chavis Holmes drops in a layup on a fast break. McLean drains 1 of 2 free throws and after Josey hits a 3pter and a layup to give VMI the lead, Monroe and Williams trade layups as the Keydets retake the lead, 22-21, with just over 5:00 to go. Ohman hits a 3pter and after Williams swishes a short jumper, Porter puts in a layup on a fast break. Josey buries a 3pter then after Sargent lays in a rebound, Monroe sinks a hook to pull the Flames to within one at the half. VMI's Chavis Holmes leads all scorers with 9 points and Monroe leads Liberty with 6.

                            Second Half
                            Bannister puts in a layup on a fast break and after Travis Holmes makes 1 of 2 free throws, Monroe sinks a turnaround jumper. Chavis Holmes and Travis Holmes each drop in layuups then after Monroe lays in a rebound to tie the game, Bannister and Chavis Holmes trade jumpers and the game is tied, 36-36, with just under 15:00 remaining. McLean and Mosley trade jumpers and after Hunter buries a 3pter, McLean makes two free throws. Bannister cans 1 of 2 free throws to tie the game then Brownfield drains a short turnaround jumper and Mosley drops in a layup to give VMI a four point lead, 45-41, midway through the second half. Ohman nails a 3pter and after Lonon converts a 3-point play, McLean and Houston trade jumpers. Houston and Lonon put in layups on fast breaks then after Ohman makes two free throws and McLean drops in a layup, Williams hits a short fallaway jumper to give the Keydets a six point lead, 56-50, with 5:00 to go. Baker buries a jumper and after Williams banks in a layup on a fast break, Travis Holmes makes 1 of 2 free throws. Travis Holmes lays in a rebound then after Baker hits a 3pter, Sargent sinks a hook as VMI comes away with the victory to clinch at least a share of the Big South regular season title.
