First of all, way to turn it around! #13 seed is a tough road cuz if to make the Sweet 16 you have to beat a 4 and a 5, then you probably get the #1 seed. Either way, that is a great season to win one in the NCAAs.

Next, Nebraska must have been on a freaking mission at the end of the season.

Yeah, I guess Nebraska won the Big 12 Tournament, but they must have had a horrible year getting the #16 seed in a powerful conference.

Haha, just kidding, it's only a videogame. Good luck in the 2nd round!
It was basically a tale of two halfs. I don't know what I said in the locker room at halftime but the team came out firing with my "bomb squad" (Chavis Holmes & Reggie Williams) leading the way. The team ended up shooting over 50% from the floor and about 60% from 3-point range in the second half. The confidence level had to be soaring during that stretch for those guys. WVU just couldn't buy a bucket during the stretch plus their turnovers were higher in the 2nd half then in the first while VMI only turned the ball over 3 times the entire second half.

Here's the tale of two halfs:

        First Half
        VMI: 35.7% fg, 22.2% 3pt
        WVU: 51.6% fg, 25.0% 3pt

        Second Half
        VMI: 64.7% fg, 60.0% 3pt
        WVU: 34.4% fg, 42.9% 3pt

After upsetting WVU, ranked 14th in the Media poll, we are taking on the 17th ranked Butler Bulldogs. With Butler being from a mid-major level conference, I think that we would match up pretty well against them. They are the 5 seeded team but VMI is the designated "home" team. My guess is because we played the 4th seed and took over their seeding. It shouldn't be that way but I'll take it.

The Cornhuskers got on a big roll during the Big 12 tournament and upsetted both Kansas and Iowa State to get to the NCAAs. I'll have to look it up when I get back home. (I'm at my local library because a virus got on my pc at home and ate a couple of system32 files and windows keeps shutting down on it's own.) My guess is that because they were 13-18, that they got the 16th seed, but they also had to play the 64/65 game in order to get that. They received the automatic bid for winning the Big 12 tournament, but, not a spot in the first 63, that in itself surprised me because that's the way that North Carolina State got in. The Wolfpack won the ACC tournament but got one of the 63 spots because of a better record.

A major reason why I took VMI in the first place was because they were only 1 game away from making the NCAA's last season. They lost in the Big South finals to Winthrop. They also had a 69 overall rating plus the nation's top scorer last season. Those were pretty good points as well.

As always guys, thanks for the feedback. On to the round of 32 for the sharpshooting Keydets.

Nice upset of Butler, but I wasn't totally surprised as you beat WVU already. Coach Knight is having a bit more success on 2K8 than 2K7, eh?

Just a little. Coach Knight did take the Black Knights to their first NCAAs in his second season.

I'm a little worried about a #15 in the Elite 8, and 3 #1s going down in the Sweet 16. I haven't really noticed that in my legacy.

Can't wait to see the recruits!

Expectations are going to be high considering only one player is leaving the team due to graduation, although that player is Reggie Williams.

I wonder if VMI will be getting any invitations to the invitational tournaments since we got to the sweet sixteen. I also wonder if getting to the sweet sixteen will have an effect with recruiting. There weren't many HS seniors who wanted to come to VMI (50%+ interest) who also fit my priorities. (Why my "scouts" contacted a couple of players with an intelligence grade of D, I'll never know.)
