I lucked out. I got a month off between my old fulltime job and my new job. So during one of my first Saturdays off I sat and watched like 4 College basketball games and was hooked. That and seeing guy's like Super James others still posting. I had to fire up a new closed legacy..

2011 Edition

(1) North Florida vs. (8) Stetson
Season Matchup Results: North Florida won by 31 points.
Insight: North Florida has won 22 in a row, and is heavily favored to win this conference tournament. Stetson doesn't have much of a chance, but they did manage to beat Ole Miss earlier in the year when they were ranked.
Prediction: North Florida

(4) SC Upstate vs. (5) Kennesaw St.
Season Matchup Results: SC Upstate won, 72-62 at Kennesaw St
Insight: This should be a very good game. SC Upstate finished dead last in the conference last year and hasn't been made the conference tournament since 2008. They had a remarkable turnaround led by their 4 senior starters. Kennesaw St has the experience. They had their turnaround last year, and made it to the championship game as a 7 seed.
Prediction: Kennesaw St

(3) Florida Gulf Coast vs. (6) Jacksonville
Season Matchup Results: FGCU won by 31 at Jacksonville
Insight: This is pretty much another 4-5 seed game, since only one game separated the 2-6 seeds. Talent wise Jacksonville is the 2nd best team in the A-Sun, but they just haven't been able to put it together. They could lose this game by 30, or they could make the finals. Both teams lost in the first round last year, and want to change that this time around.
Prediction: Florida Gulf Coast

(2) Lipscomb vs. (7) East Tennessee St
Season Matchup Results: Lipscomb won in OT at home
Insight: Early in the season Lipscomb had 2nd place locked up. Then they went 3-5 to finish the conference and tied with 4 other teams, but were lucky enough to still get a good seed. East Tennessee started 1-7, before going 6-3 just to make the conference tournament. Lipscomb needs to get it together or this Bucs team could surprise them.

Just taking care of business. North Florida was supposed to win this game, and they did with ease. They do have a good chance at making the NCAA Tournament without winning the conference one, but Coach Matthews wouldn't be satisfied with that.

Brent Wood scored 23 points in this one, just the 8th time he's put up 20+ this season after leading the NCAA last year with 28+PPG. He has scored 40+ multiple times in his career, and if he can start scoring like he did last season it'll make the Ospreys a threat deep into March.

1st Round Recap

(1) North Florida vs. (8) Stetson
Result: North Florida 83, Stetson 55
Recap: As expected, this one wasn't very close. Like earlier in the season it was almost a 30 point victory for the Ospreys. Brent Wood led the way with 23 points, assisted by Emerson Riley's 20.

(4) SC Upstate vs. (5) Kennesaw St.
Result: SC Upstate 74, Kennesaw St 57
Recap: Mezie Uzochukwu came to play. He scored 18 points, while grabbing a career high 17 rebounds to lead the Spartans to victory. Kennesaw State was in trouble from the get go, as starting SG Dedrick Benzel was out for the game, and there was a huge drop off. Their leader, sophomore power forward Bryant Ballinger tried his best to give them a chance. He put up a career high 23 points to go along with 11 rebounds but it wasn't enough and SC Upstate won easily.

(3) Florida Gulf Coast vs. (6) Jacksonville
Result: Florida Gulf Coast 74, Jacksonville 71
Recap: As expected this was a great game. It came down to the wire, with the Eagles coming out on top. They had a very balanced effort, with 4 players scoring 10 or more. Jacksonville's seniors just couldn't get over the hump, despite a valiant effort from SR SF Ayron Hardy, who put up 26 points.

(2) Lipscomb vs. (7) East Tennessee St
Result: E. Tennessee St 69, Lipscomb 64
Recap: It was highlighted before the game how Lipscomb had been on a downward slide, while East Tennessee was hot. That continued tonight, as the Bucs pull off the upset led by sophomore Pete Barton putting up 26 points. The A-Sun's leading scorer, Adnan Hodzic for Lipscomb, gave a valiant effort in what will be his final game. He scored 28 points, but it wasn't enough. Lipscomb loses most of their talent, so they missed out on their opportunity.


Other News: Both the 1 and 2 seed in both the Big South and Patriot League tournaments lost in the first round.

Season Matchup Results: North Florida won by 27
Insight: These teams met once, and one man dominated that game. Emerson Riley scored a remarkable 43 points in that match-up, and because of him it was never close. Look for that again, as the Spartans big men are both only 6'7". Ballinger of Kennesaw St. put up 23 against them, 7'3" Emerson Riley will probably do the same and then some.
Prediction: North Florida

(3) Florida Gulf Coast vs. (7) East Tennessee State
Season Matchup Results: Florida Gulf Coast won both, by 29 and 3 points.
Insight: This is an interesting match-up. The Eagles destroyed them during the Bucs 1-7 stretch, but only by 3 during their hot stretch. FGCU will be favored, but don't be surprised if the Bucs pull off an upset. They are the last team to win the conference tournament not named North Florida, plus the 7 seed made it to the championship game last season.

Holy smokes! That's about all that can be said. The Ospreys just put down a beating that hasn't been seen in a long, long time in the A-Sun. North Florida dominated every part of the game. They shot 63%, and held the Spartans to just 22%. 28 of USC Upstate's points came from free throws, so half of their points. 28 assists for UNF, 44-22 rebound margin, 40-12 points in the paint. Not to mention the highest margin of victory ever in the A-Sun, and highest point total.

To be fair, two of the Spartans bench players that average 5ppg were injured. That doesn't matter much when the old Brent Wood comes alive and scores 39 points on you, the first time he's gotten over the 30 point hump all season. Throw in a 7-footer putting up 28 and 11 against you, and you're bound to be in for a long day.

This is just what the Ospreys needed, Brent Wood and Emerson Riley getting hot at the right time. If Wood keeps this up and doesn't cool off watch out!

Looks like it's smooth sailing to the Big Dance.

He was averaging 16.3 PPG heading into the tournament. Obviously should be a bit higher now, but it's still well below the 28.3 he averaged last season when he was the nation's leading scorer. His sophomore season he averaged 19.8, so it's his lowest in a season that he was a starter full time.

Part of that is because of others stepping up, like Dancy who went from ~9ppg to ~16ppg. His numbers are all down though, especially his 3pt FG %. No real reason why that I can tell, it kind of baffles me, but luckily we've still been successful. Wouldn't mind more 30 point games from him though, since it usually results in a big win.

Surprisingly enough, right now we are projected as the final #1 seed. I'm expecting a 2 seed though if we win the conference tournament.
