We had seen this match-up twice already this season, and both times North Florida took care of the Bears easily. This time it was no different.

During the 1st half, Mercer actually played really well. At one point, they were ahead 42-41. That's when it all went downhill. The Ospreys finished the first half on a 11-0 run, and started out the second half in similar fashion.

Led by the nation's leading scorer Brent Wood, the Ospreys had very little trouble in the long run.

    Coach Matthews’ Minute
“I still don't understand why we even have to waste our time playing in this tournament. All of the teams that could keep it within 20 lost already, so you might as well just hand us the trophy now.”

Congrats on the opening round win. I expect with Jacksonville's 1st round loss they are NIT bound. Lets just hope you don't get upset by E. Tennessee or anyone else. I played E. Tenn in the 1st round of my WSU legacy as a 1 vs 16. They hung with me in the 1st half but then fell apart.

Neither team could shoot the rock tonight. North Florida, a team that is known for being a solid 3-point shooting team behind Brent Wood didn't hit a 3 ball until 32+ minutes into the game. They started the game out 0-12 from behind the arc. Wood nailed 4 in the last 8 minutes to save them too much embarrassment. East Tennessee on the other hand was even worse. They went 1-20 from 3-point land in this game.

Not much else to say about this one. North Florida played horrible for their standards, and still one by 21 points.

Ka'Ron Ellerbee, the Ospreys solid 6th man, was injured early in the 2nd half. Doctors are calling it just a sore knee, but it's unlikely that he'll be playing much in the championship game. Ellerbee believes that he will play however, so we'll wait and see tomorrow night.

          Coach Matthews’ Minute
“I'm almost certain that the East Tennessee St. people messed with the goals to make us shoot poorly. Too bad for them not even that could help them keep it within 20 points.”

Of "Ocean's Eleven" fame? I liked the origional but kind of so-so for the remake with George Clooney in the Danny Ocean role. The only think I like the most in the remake is that the song "A Little Less Conversation" was in it. That song was #1 around the world.

Now, back to here. Congrats to UNF on the opening round bid and good luck the rest of the way.

I'm glad someone caught that, even if it took the whole season haha.

There are actually a few movie/tv stars in that class. Steven Hiller of Independence Day, Chuck Bartowski of 'Chuck', Sam Witwicki of Transformers, and James Carter from Rush Hour.

                2010 Conference Championship Preview

                The Matchup
                vs.

Probably the least expected outcome of the conference championship game. Everyone assumed North Florida would be here, but any of the other 3 teams in the bottom half of the bracket had more of a chance than 13-17 Kennesaw St. The two teams met once this season, and it took overtime for the Ospreys to beat the Owls on their home court. This game will either be close like that one, or be a blowout in the Ospreys favor. North Florida could still sneak into the tournament with a loss, but Kennesaw St. isn't getting anything higher than a 16 seed if they win.

                Players to Watch
For Kennesaw St. this game is going to come down to the big men. The last time these two teams met they managed to get Emerson Riley in foul trouble (though he still scored 20 points in limited time) and it really helped keep them in the game. With the uncertainty of Ka'Ron Ellerbee playing, expect them to try and attack the basket often. They also need to rely on JR small forward Curt Robbins, who scored 26 points against the Ospreys earlier this year.

This all comes down to the nation's leading scorer, Brent Wood. He was lights out in the opening round against Mercer, but really struggled against ETSU. If he has a good game, this one won't be close. If he doesn't, the Owls have a chance. Emerson Riley also has to stay out of foul trouble since Ka'Ron Ellerbee will likely only play limited minutes if any.

What a finish! For a minute there everyone expected the Owls to cap off the impossible run and make it into the tournament with a 14-17 record. Unfortunately for them the Ospreys have a player by the name of Brent Wood.

Before we get into the finish you have to understand the situation. Brent Wood started this game 0-6 before finally making a shot. He went 1-9 in the first half, and with 4 minutes to go he was sitting at 1-13 from the floor, 0-6 from behind the arc. At this point it's looking very, very bad for North Florida as Kennesaw St. just took their largest lead of the game (11 points) with just 4 minutes remaining.

Down by 11 with exactly 4 minutes to play. Wood hits three 3-pointers and scores 11 points in next 3 minutes to help give North Florida the lead, 71-69 with 47.5 seconds remaining. Kennesaw St. missed a hook shot on their end, which allowed Dancy to hit both free throws and make it a 4 point game. Haruna Wente hit a huge 3 with 23 seconds remaining to make the score 73-72.

Brent Wood made the first, and second free throws to make it a 3 point game once again with just under 22 seconds remaining. The Owls missed the quick three attempt, but got the offensive rebound. They worked the ball around and shot another, and once again missed and got the offensive rebound before getting fouled with 6.2 remaining. Allison hit the first free throw, but missed the second. 75-73 with 4.9 to go and two free throws for Cliff Slattery who made both to put the game out of reach.

Thanks to clutch play by Brent Wood down the stretch, the Ospreys are the first team to guarantee themselves a spot in the big dance.

                  Coach Matthews’ Minute
“My team is flippin lucky that we won that game or every single one of their asses would have had to be looking for a new team next season. It's a good thing I'm a damned great coach or we would have lost that game bad.”

                        (15) Louisiana Monroe (19-10)

                        Upset Watch
                        (11) Texas over (6) Clemson
—This one is going to be a popular pick amongst bracket filler outers. Also keep an eye out for Marquette, they played better than anyone in the country during championship week.

                        Predicted Elite-8 Matchup
                        (1) Duke vs. (2) Gonzaga
This is a rematch of last year's elite 8 game in this same bracket. The only difference is that the seeds have been flipped. Gonzaga is as close to a write in as you can have, while Duke has to deal with very good LSU and UConn in their bracket.

                          Upset Watch
                          (13) UC Santa Barbara over (4) Iowa St.
—Not very likely to have an upset in this bracket, but this is the best bet.

                          Predicted Elite-8 Matchup
                          (1) Florida vs. (2) Georgetown
Have to go with the 1 and 2 once again. Florida will have to watch out though, because they could have to play North Florida again who they lost to at home early in the season. Georgetown could have trouble with conference rival Syracuse if they play them.

                            Upset Watch
                            (12) Kansas over (5) Ole Miss
—VERY likely there will be some big upsets in this bracket. Kansas has a very good shot at a Sweet 16 or even Elite 8. Manhattan has a good shot against Missouri, BYU has a good chance against USC, West Virginia has a great chance against Boston College. Even Creighton could shock everyone by beating 2 seed Arkansas

                            Predicted Elite-8 Matchup
                            (1) Louisville vs. (6) USC
Not the hardest bracket to pick, but very difficult. Louisville could have trouble with Memphis if they play in the 2nd round. Whoever wins the Ole Miss/Kansas game could give them trouble as well. The bottom half is almost impossible, as there are 5 or 6 teams that could wind up winning it..

                              (13) Nevada over (4) Seton Hall
—Again, best shot at an upset. Pitt over Nebraska is also very likely, and Pitt against Arizona could be a very good game

                              Predicted Elite-8 Matchup
                              (5) Tennessee vs. (2) Arizona
Kentucky has it very tough, and they might lose in the 2nd round, so Tennessee is the better pick here. Arizona had injury problems, and still will be without starting PG Nic Wise, but super freshman Chuck Bartowski could lead them to another national championship game.

Wow the selection committee didn't do you any favors. Wisconsin in Round 1. Probably #1 Florida in Round 2 and #5 UCLA in the Sweet Sixteen.

Good luck. Would love to see you pull of a few upsets. A win over Florida could be huge for a recruiting pitch to upcoming players.
