Bucks turn up D to stymie Thunder

Milwaukee -- Milwaukee coach Scott Skiles recently emphasized to his players just how unacceptably average they were defensively.

It appears that the Bucks got the message.

The Bucks held Kevin Durant and Oklahoma City to one of its worst-shooting games this season, while Stephen Jackson scored 23 points as Milwaukee won 86-73 over the listless Thunder on Tuesday night.

"I hope it's an indication that we're getting better at [defense], because it was impressive tonight," Skiles said.

Durant scored 25 points for the Thunder who lost for just the 2nd time in their last 10 games.

"It was just one of those games that was sloppy," Durant said. "Everything we did -- fumbling passes and not finishing layups; missing opportunities on the defensive end to help the team in transition to get easy baskets."

The Thunder now return home to start off a five game home stand against the Mavericks, who beat Oklahoma City 82-76 in Dallas earlier this season.

Terry clutch again as Mavs knock off Thunder

Oklahoma City -- For the second time this season Jason Terry hit the clutch shot that lifted the Mavericks to a win over the Thunder.

Terry had two late three's in the teams first meeting that provided the difference. Tonight it was just one three, but it still provided Dallas with a two point lead.

After a terrible first three quarters Kevin Durant found his shot in the fourth. After Terry gave Dallas a two point lead with 0.9 seconds left, Durant hit what appeared to be a game-winning three.

However, the replay review showed that the ball was still on his finger tips as the horn sounded and the Mavs left OKC with an 89-87 win.

Dirk Nowitzki led the Dallas attack with 22 points and 8 rebounds. Shawn Marion added 18 points and Terry's game-winner gave him 16 on the night.

Durant led all scorers with 24 points, but shot just 10 of 27 from the field. Russell Westbrook didn't look any better hitting 4 of 13 shots.

If not for Serge Ibaka the Thunder would not have even had a chance to win the game late as he shot a perfect 8 for 8 on his way to 18 points.

Oklahoma City has lost two straight games and will be looking to get back in the win column when they welcome Phoenix to town on Saturday. The Suns already have win over the Thunder this season 90-75 in Phoenix.

Thunder win game, lose Durant for 1-2 weeks

Oklahoma City -- The Oklahoma City Thunder showed they know how to finish a year in style.

Russell Westbrook scored 23 points, and James Harden added 16 to help Oklahoma City pull away in the third quarter and the Thunder led wire to wire in a 93-78 victory over the Phoenix Suns on Saturday night.

The Thunder are perfect in four New Year's Eve home games that have become a tradition since the franchise moved from Seattle to Oklahoma City.

"You've got to start the new year with a win," Westbrook said. "Hopefully, we can keep this going."

Winning may come tougher for the Thunder early in 2012, as Kevin Durant will miss 1-2 weeks with a strained achilles.

Durant had 12 points in 16 minutes before getting injured on a hard foul while driving for a lay-up.

Oklahoma City led from the outset, getting a two-handed dunk from Serge Ibaka just after the opening tip and scoring the first seven points.

Steve Nash led the Suns with 17 points and 7 assists but his teammates provided little help.

"We have not been able to do a lot of the stuff that we anticipated doing," coach Alvin Gentry said after the game. "Obviously, we've got some of the core guys but you're talking about second-unit guys and things like that. We haven't been able to do nearly as much as we would like to."

The Thunder will start off the new year at home with a visit from the Portland Trail Blazers who trail OKC by six games in the Northwest Division.

Westbrook scores 26 as Thunder defeat Trail Blazers

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Russell Westbrook is most dangerous when attacking the basket, which is exactly what he did against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Westbrook took over the fourth quarter of the game carrying the Thunder to a 84-76 victory.

"You ask just about anybody, they'd rather have the ball in Westbrook's hands than [Kevin] Durant's hands late in the game, but he made some big shots," said Portland's Gerald Wallace.

Durant was out of the line-up with a strained achilles and Oklahoma City didn't seem to miss a beat.

Westbrook finished with 26 points and James Harden had 13, but was he was just 4 of 12 from the field.

LaMarcus Aldridge was unguardable at times in the second half as he carried the Trail Blazers back from a 6-point halftime deficit. But Oklahoma City made enough plays late to beat Portland for the third time in three tries.

Aldridge scored 20 points on 10-14 shooting and grabbed 9 rebounds.

Oklahoma City will get a two day break before they are visited by the Houston Rockets. The Thunder defeated the Rockets 95-85 in the first meeting this season.

Westbrook and Ibaka propel Thunder past Rockets

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Oklahoma City Thunder continue to roll through their schedule with relative ease, despite Kevin Durant being sidelined with a strained achilles.

Russell Westbrook scored 25 points and dished out a season high 10 assists and Serge Ibaka scored a career high 23 points on 10-10 shooting as the Thunder held of a late charge from the Houston Rockets to get the 89-85 win.

Kevin Martin kept Houston in the game, scoring 33 points in just 30 minutes of playing time.

Oklahoma City had a 12 point lead entering the fourth quarter, but Houston refused to go away and came back to tie the game with just over two minutes left in the game.

However, once Thunder coach Scott Brooks got Westbrook back on the floor, the Thunder were able to re-take the lead and finish strong for the victory.

"It all started from our defense. I think we started off with a great mindset on defense of contesting shots, making those guys shoot jump shots and rebounding. I think we did a decent job at that and got some easy baskets," Westbrook said.

San Antonio will visit Chesapeake Energy Arena to close out the Thunder's 5 game home-stand. The teams will playing for the fourth time this season. OKC dropped the first two against the Spurs but won the most recent meeting 88-82 in San Antonio.

Spurs hand Thunder first loss without Durant

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Oklahoma City Thunder had won their first three games since Kevin Durant was injured, they weren't as lucky in the fourth.

Tony Parker led a balanced San Antonio attack, and five Spurs players ended the game in double figures as they beat the Thunder for the third time this season, 92-78.

Parker had 14 points, 10 assists and 6 rebounds, Manu Ginobili scored 16 points to lead the team and Tiago Splitter added 15.

Russell Westbrook had a rough night turning the ball over 7 times in the game, matching his assist total, but he did lead the game in scoring with 21 points.

After a ending the first quarter with a 20-18 lead the Thunder never led the game again as the Spurs eventually put the game out of reach in the final quarter.

Oklahoma City will head out to play road games on back-to-back nights starting with a trip to Memphis to face the Grizzlies. The Thunder won the first match-up 87-75 at home.

Westbrook's season high 34 carries Thunder past Grizzlies

MEMPHIS -- Russell Westbrook's big game was just the kind of performance the Oklahoma City Thunder needed in the absence of Kevin Durant.

Westbrook scored 34 points and the Thunder dominated the Memphis Grizzlies 93-64 on Tuesday night.

Kendricks Perkins added 12 points and 9 rebounds to the Thunder's effort and Lazar Hayward scored 10 points off the bench.

Oklahoma City jumped on the Grizzlies early and never let off the gas. After a 21-12 first quarter the game was all but over for Memphis, who shot just 34% as a team.

Rudy Gay led the Grizzlies with 20 points, Mike Conley had 14 points and 5 assists but turned the ball over 7 times.

The Thunder will have a quick turn-around as they face the New Orleans Hornets tomorrow night.
