Thunder lock up playoff spot with win

OKLAHOMA CITY -- With Russell Westbrook and Kendrick Perkins sitting out the game with injuries, the Thunder roles players took advantage of the extra playing time.

Mid-season free agent acquisition Chris Douglas-Roberts scored 15 points off the Oklahoma City bench to help the Thunder become the first team in the NBA to lock-up a playoff spot with a 94-80 over the Sixers.

"We've got goals at hand. When you have bigger goals, you tend to reach smaller goals," Nick Collison said.

Kevin Durant led OKC with 29 points and finally found his three point shot hitting three on six attempts.

The Thunder used a 25-13 first quarter to leave the Sixers in their wake and cruised to an easy win, giving them 50 on the season. They are the first team to reach that mark this season.

Michael Beasley led Philadelphia with 19 points and Jrue Holiday nearly notched a triple-double with 14 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists.

Oklahoma City gets a two a break before welcoming the Washington Wizards to town.

Durant scores 32 as Thunder out pace Wizards

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Oklahoma City Thunder have run off 5 straight wins.

The last two have been without 2 starters but it hasn't slowed their momentum.

Kevin Durant scored 32 points as the Thunder made easy work of the Washington Wizards 92-73 Friday night.

Another great start put OKC ahead after one quarter and the Wizards never stood a chance.

Chris Douglas-Roberts continues to be a great free agent pick-up, scoring 13 points off the bench to go with James Harden's 10.

John Wall led the Wizards with 19 points and Stephen Jackson added 15 and 7 assists in the loss.

"I know it's tough to look at for a lot of people," Washington coach Flip Saunders said. "It's tough to coach. Growing pains are extremely difficult. You knew that there would be nights like this, you just hoped there wouldn't be as many nights."

The Thunder will have a day off before the first game of a home and home against the Utah Jazz in Oklahoma City.

Durant, Harden carry Thunder past Jazz 90-88

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Al Jefferson hit a hook shot in the lane with 10.4 seconds in left to tie the score in Sunday's thriller between the Utah Jazz and Oklahoma City Thunder.

After a Thunder timeout Kevin Durant set up on the wing, backed his man down and turned to fire a jump shot.

The outcome was almost too predictable.

Durant scored 31 points, the final two came as the horn sounded to give the Thunder an 90-88 win over the Jazz.

James Harden added 19 points and 7 rebounds to the Thunder effort.

Playing just 12 minutes off the Jazz bench C.J. Miles managed to lead the team in scoring with 15 points. Paul Millsap had 11 points and 8 rebounds and Gordon Hayward chipped in 10 in the teams 10th straight loss.

Both teams will have off day before meeting again in Utah.

Thunder win as Durant scores 10000th career point

SALT LAKE CITY -- The Oklahoma City Thunder showed Tuesday night they have other options when Kevin Durant is covered during a tight game.

Reggie Jackson made a layup with 2.5 seconds left, lifting Oklahoma City to an 88-87 win over the Utah Jazz.

After losing in Oklahoma City Sunday on a last second shot from Durant the Jazz were determined to not let him beat them again.

"Everybody in the gym thought KD was going to get the ball," Utah's Raja Bell said. "We did a helluva job not letting him catch it."

"The play was for Kevin, but I saw he wasn't open," Jackson said. "I tried to get into the lane and either get a basket or get a foul."

Jackson scored a career high 14 points and Durant had 34 to push him over the 10,000 career point mark.

Oklahoma City, a Western Conference power this season, was in behind for much of the game, only to steal the win in the final seconds.

The loss extended Utah's winless streak to 11 games.

"We have to get better closing out games," Paul Millsap said. "We did everything to give ourselves a chance to win, and we let it slip away.

Devin Harris led the Jazz with 19 points and 7 assists and Al Jefferson finished with 14 points and 8 rebounds.

Aldrich grabs career high 11 rebounds as Thunder win another close one

OKLAHOMA CITY -- For the third straight the Thunder came from behind to close out a win in the final minutes.

However, this ended was the least exciting of the three.

With the game tied and 15 seconds left, the Los Angeles Clippers where called for offensive 3 seconds giving the Thunder a free throw and the ball. After Kevin Durant sank the technical free throw, the Clippers had no choice but to foul. Eric Maynor hit one of two and Chris Paul missed a potential game tying jumper at the buzzer to give OKC an 86-84 win.

Durant scored 32 points, Serge Ibaka added 13 and 10 rebounds, and Cole Aldrich grabbed a career high 11 rebounds for the Thunder to give them their 8th straight win, which also clinched the teams second straight division title.

After the game the blue T-shirt marking the division title sat folded up on a chair near Kevin Durant's locker.

Having been the worst team in the West for most of the season, as of late the Clippers had strung together 5 wins to get back in the playoff race.

"We made some plays, missed too many free throws but we had some good execution," Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro said.

Chauncey Billups led L.A. with 23 points and Paul chipped in with 10 points and 9 assists.

The loss leaves the Clippers 3.5 games back of the Phoenix Suns for the 8th and final playoff spot.

Oklahoma City gets a three day break before welcoming the Miami Heat to town. The Thunder won the first meeting in Miami 86-71.

Thanks. I've been debating when to start resting guys. I have been leaving guys who are hurt(not injured just hurt so they could still play) out of the rotation so I can I avoid further injuries(not sure this that playing hurt guys puts them at risk, but it did happen when I left Harden in when hurt). The main issue is how well the Celtics are doing. I've clinched a playoff spot and the division but I want to secure home court throughout the playoffs(even the finals). Next game is against the Heat and Westbrook is fully healed so he'll be starting again. Depending on how the Celtics are doing(think I'm 1 game up on them currently) and who I'm playing against will determine weather or not I rest guys. Once I get closer to having all my guys healthy I will most likely start rotating Durant, Westbrook and Harden etc, out of the line-up to save them for the playoffs.

Yeah good point, you should try the manual injuries system for Year 2. I'm gonna add a component where players who play more and have lower durability have a higher chance of getting hurt.

Dwyane Wade leads Heat past Thunder

OKLAHOMA CITY -- As of late the Thunder had made habit of trailing for 3 quarters and using a 4th quarter run to win the game.

Hopefully tonight broke them of that habit.

The Miami Heat led wire to wire as the stopped the Thunder's win streak at 8 games with a 91-84 win.

Miami's 'Big 3' of Dwayne Wade, Lebron James, and Chris Bosh led the Miami attack. Wade scored a team high 23 points, James added 18 points and 8 rebounds, and Bosh chipped in 17 and 9 boards.

James Harden scored 23 points off the Thunder bench and Kevin Durant also had 23 and 6 assists.

Returning to the Thunder line-up for the first time since suffering a lower back strain, Russell Westbrook had an up and down game with 13 points, 7 assists, and 5 turnovers.

Up next for the Thunder is a two game road trip that starts Tuesday night against division rival Portland. This meeting marks the first time Oklahoma City will face the Blazers since they added Steve Nash at the trade deadline.
