    Game 10

    Game Ten vs Texas-Pan American

Bobcats roll Broncos 90-53, Looking good heading into conference play
This was exactly the type of game Coach Bell wanted heading into conference play. “I’m glad a lot of guys got PT today. That’ll be important once conference play and guys will be more comfortable in their roles.” The Bobcats bench outscored the Broncos bench 44-9.

John Bowman, JB Conley and Uriel Segura all had saw a season high in minutes, while Tony Bishop continued to be stellar off the bench. Conley and Bishop led the team in scoring with 19 and 15 points respectively. Segura played a lot of minutes at the point and led the second unit.

          Game 11

          Game Eleven: @ Northwestern State

All Around Team Effort Pushes Bobcats past Demons
Coach Bell believes his team is on the verge of reeling off some wins. “Look out Southland Conference,” Bell said, “If we play offense like that, we can make some noise this year.” Led by Cameron Johnson’s 22 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists the Bobcats maintained the lead throughout the game to pull out the seven point victory 80-73.

“A lot of guys played and contributed well tonight.” Coach Bell continued. The Bobcats saw double digit scoring from Eddie Rios (13), Ryan White (12) and Jonathon Sloan (11). Both teams shot 50% from the field but the Bobcats pressured their bigs in to foul trouble. The Bobcats shot 11 more free throws than the Demons as that played a big role in the win.

            Game 12

            Game 12 @ Central Arkansas

Behind 44 points off the bench, Bobcats roll Bears 103-45

Scoring more points in one half than the other team scores all game is an accomplishment, even for Coach Pete Bell. “When you have guys shooting like that, it would be tough for anyone to stop it.” The Bobcats shot a staggering 71% from the
field (43-60) and had a season high 44 points off the bench.

JB Conley and Tony Bishop contributed 39 of the team’s 44 points off the bench. Conley (18 pts) and Bishop (21 pts) both shot 8-10 from the field and combined for five 3 pointers. “Bish(op) and me were really feeling it today. We got some extra run because of the score but we were getting our shots in good spots,” JB Conley said after the game.

The Bobcats have won their last 4 games and 6 out of the last 8 games. “Everyone is really coming together, and we’re getting great contributions off the bench,” Bell said. “I’d like for it to continue.”

              Game 13 vs. SE Louisiana

Bobcats pull away in the second half, beat Lions 79-67
After a lazy first half, the Bobcats locked down on defense and pulled away from the SE Louisiana Lions in the second half. “We looked terrible in the first half, especially defensively.” Coach Bell was quoted, “Scoring 42 points is great, but giving up 41 is not going to cut it.” The Lions only shot 40% in the second half, allowing the Bobcats to outscore them 37-26 in that time frame.

Cameron Johnson led the way for the Bobcats with 25 points and 7 rebounds. Eddie Rios, Jon Sloan and JB Conley all contributed with 10 points. “I really took it upon myself in the second half to get the team going.” Star Forward Cameron Johnson said after the game, “I was able to get some good looks and then get others good looks after they closed hard on me in the second half.”

                Game 14

                Game 14 vs. Nicholls State

Johnson’s Triple Double carries Bobcats past Colonels 83-72

In a game where the final score did not indicate how close of a game it was, Cameron Johnson might have played the best game of his career posting the first triple double in Texas State history. However, it was Ryan White (14 points) who hit the biggest shot of the night. White, who was held scoreless in the previous game hit a 3 with 1:12 left to put the Bobcats up six and really put the game out of reach.

“Ryan was more important for us tonight then Cam was.” Coach Bell said, “To play that way after how he struggled against SE Louisiana, I’m really proud of that.” Johnson had 19 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in the game. “I didn’t even know about it til after the game. I am just really happy we could get the win too. JB Conley continued to stay hot off the bench with 14 points on 6-9 shooting.

NEXT: The Bobcats are home to the Islanders of Texas A&M CC.

Game 15 vs. Texas A&M CC

Cold Shooting fails Bobcats against Islanders, halts winning streak at 6
The Islanders of Texas A&M Corpus Christi came into Strahan Coliseum and defeated the Bobcats 64-57. “We couldn’t throw a ball into the ocean standing on a boat.” Coach Bell was quoted saying after the game. “Threes, layups, jumpers, whatever it was we weren’t making them,” The Bobcats shot a season low 35% from the field.

Even with the poor shooting, the Bobcats had a chance. Down three the Islanders had the ball and got a wide-open look. Fortunately for the Bobcats it was a missed jumper. Unfortunately for the Bobcats, no one was around to grab the rebound. They were forced to foul from there and the rest was history. The Islanders dominated the boards 35-28 and got multiple possessions throughout the night.

Cameron Johnson was the only Bobcat in double digits with 26 points on 9-18 shooting. The rest of the team shot a combined 10-35 and tying a season low with 11 points from the bench.

Matt Staff had his first double-double of the season tallying 14 points and 10 rebounds. Staff combined with his other interior mate, Jonathon Sloan, had 20 points and 19 rebounds. Coach Bell, “We really dominated the game inside. The Bobcats also saw production from steady star forward Cameron Johnson who totaled 18 points and 5 rebounds. “Our bench really picked us up in the first half. JB Conley scored 11 of his 13 points in the first half to keep the ‘Cats close when they were struggling offensively.

Texas State Shuts Down Sam Houston State, Rolls 75-36

In a game that was slightly anticipated, due to the preseason favorite facing off against the current leader of the Southland Conference, it is pretty clear who the favorite is now. The Bobcats held the Bearkats to 26% (12-45) shooting and 13% (2-15) shooting on threes. “I’d like to say that it was entirely our defense,” Coach Bell said, “However, they just missed some shots and that happens sometimes in basketball.”

In a game where five players scored in double figures, Matt Staff led the team with 16 points. Tony Bishop (13 pts) and JB Conley (10 pts) continued their strong play off the bench. “Me and JB are able to come in to the game and just do our thing. Coach gives us a lot of offensive freedom when we’re out there,” Tony Bishop was quoted after the game. Texas State is now sitting atop the Southland Conference at 7-1 and holds a 1.5 game advantage over Sam Houston State.

NEXT: The Bobcats have a little break as their next game is not until next Saturday when they travel the University of Texas-Arlington.

                                Game 19 @ UT-Arlington

Bobcats lack energy and effort, fall to Mavericks 80-70

What a let down. That was the best way Coach Bell could describe what he saw. “After handling business last week and playing so well at Sam Houston, I did not expect us to come in here and lay an egg,” Coach Bell said. “We had no effort, no energy. It was unfortunate.” The Mavericks shot 54% from the field and held a +10 rebounding effort with numerous putbacks.

The Bobcats saw star sixth man Tony Bishop limp off the floor with 8 minutes to go in the second half. He was driving the lane and was fouled. He was helped off the floor and never game back. “It’s just a little bruised and sore right now.” Bishop said. “We have a few days before our next game, I’ll see how I feel.” The Bobcats were led by JB Conley’s 17 points with Eddie Rios chipping in 15 points and 8 assists.

NEXT: The Bobcats look to bounce back at McNeese State on Wednesday.
