January 28th, 1971 at Furman Paladins (9-11) [2-5]
Conference: Southern
Location: Greenville, South Carolina
1969-70 record: 22-11 (11-5], lost in the 2nd round of the CBI.

Furman is a 27 prestige school that has made a postseason tournament for 4 straight seasons coming into this one, though it looks like that is a streak that is going to break pretty soon. In the 40's and most of the 50's they were a legit low-major power.

PG: Truman, 5'11", Junior: Started last year and averaged 7 points and 3 rebounds a game. Passing the ball better, but is struggling from the field, though to be fair he is shooting the ball much more. 12 points, 4 boards, 3 assists a game right now.
SG: Swaim, 6'2", Sophomore: Played 10 minutes a game last year and averaged 3 points. Solid defender who can knock down a three, pretty similar to our Flores. Missed several games due to injury this year.
SF: Owings, 6'1", Freshman: Talented offensive freshman who loves to get to get to the basket and also isn't afraid to put more threes than he should. His passing will develop some, but he's strictly off the ball. Should have some solid counting stats as a junior and senior.
PF: Ireland, 6'8", Senior: Played 12 minutes a game last year. Strong post player that does okay across the board and will contribute some decent numbers.
C: Madson, 6'7", Sophomore: Has missed a large chunk of the season, but the undersized Madson provides some real offensive punch inside, nearly 16 points a game in 5 contests played. He can't defend, so hopefully Ramage and Sanders can do some damage on him.
Bench: Ellington is 6'8" and an excellent rebounder off the bench, but provides almost zero offense. Miller is a 6'8" freshman post who has started 15 games this year and provided a little offense. He has the chops to be a major scorer inside eventually. Russell is a 6'4" wing who defends well and can hit at three, he's 15-30 so far this year. Redman is a talented offensive big man from Australia who is probably out of the rotation right now, with their team fully healthy. Bonin is a 6'6" sophomore wing that transferred from Rice prior to the season, he started 14 games with the injury to Swaim earlier this year. He's got some offensive ability, but he's not much.
Coach: Lucas Woodson, 45 years old. 23/69/77/51, 31-22 career record. 2nd season at Furman.
Solid coach, who will need a good recruiting assistant to help him bring in talent to coach up. I don't envision him being at Furman too long.
They've got some actual depth to their team, which is rare in the Southern. Their record is probably a little misleading given that 40% of their starting lineup has missed some major time, which has thrown off their rotation for large parts of the season, so this game is going to be tougher than it looked at first glance. Need our post players to step up.
With Flores done, Bracey will step into the starting lineup and will get his first collegiate start in this contest
