Tovarich: I'm not sure how realistic it is to be frustrated by a 23 point win, although like a few recent games, a lot of that came at the end. We pressed until the very end. This is the new Denver, but this one's one the players remember for running it up on us. Too bad Capel missed the 3 at the end there, but oh well.
Reporter: What was frustrating coach?
Tovarich: Apart from not pulling away until the final 5 minutes, there were just some very bizarre things I can't help but notice. Not one single 3 we made was assisted by a point guard. It was a curse to receive the ball from them. All 6 assists the point guards had, which is a low number for a game where you score 93, were to the big guys only. All 5 of Suotamo's assists were on 3's, both of Shehan's too. Then Jack and Pawlak each had one. Bizarre stuff.
Reporter: Is there a conundrum about who to start at center again? You pulled Shehan pretty quick.
Tovarich: I wish I had quicker. HOW DOES A 7 FOOT 2 INCH TALL MAN JUMP FROM RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE HOOP AND HE CAN'T GET IT OVER THE RIM? TWICE in one possession he finger rolls it off his hand and it lands on the front of the rim and falls backward. Apart from the usual frustration of everyone's refusal to dunk, I remain baffled by what apparent curses are involved that prevent a center from missing a shot that way. Shehan even managed to get blocked by a PG at one point. Suotamo was money. Our team unity is less with Suotamo starting, but it may be worth it. We've got some weak opponents coming up here. We go to Arkansas State in a few weeks who are obviously the second best team, but until then we should have a handful of easy wins no matter what our team unity is, so we'll see about making that change before we go to South Alabama and their wonderful halfcourt trap that frustrates us every time.
Reporter: Anything else you'd like to rant about coach?
Tovarich: No, I think I got it all out for now.
Reporter: Do you think being ranked #1 had anything to do with any struggles?
Tovarich: Not at home, I don't think. Maybe. FIU's a decent team. But we'll find out in a road game. South Alabama will likely treat it like their super bowl. I don't know where all we have and haven't been when ranked #1 off the top of my head but it's a big deal for the other teams when we got there I'm sure.
