Tovarich: That's supposed to be the second best team in the conference on paper, so that's a shockingly easy win. They're only 6-6 though, so they must not be living up to it. They were shockingly poor handling the ball. We pressed a little in the first half, but stopped that pretty quick when we were way ahead, but they continued to turn it over. They were spread out a lot and making very long passes constantly. Not wise. And apparently they lack depth because you'd think you may as well get the bench in and try something new down 40+

Reporter: You still seemed unhappy with the PF's.

Tovarich: Yes, I benched Jack after he stopped 3 feet from the hoop and tried some stupid hook shot instead of continuing to drive it in and slam it. I think he must have had some traumatic experience as a child touching a basketball rim. I'll have to try and figure out what it is. So I even let Blankenship have some practice against the press and it didn't seem to matter who it was, they disappointed in that aspect. Hard to nitpick, but of course all coaches can.

Reporter: All 12 players scored and got a rebound and 11 had an assist. How beneficial is all that depth?

Tovarich: It's only going to get better. We have no seniors, so next season, we should have the greatest team unity in the history of ever and hopefully we'll play like it.

Tovarich: Don't know how we managed to be tied at halftime. I don't feel like we ever had a chance in that one. Rebounding was a joke as usual. We tower over those two centers, but it made no difference. 2/7 from the line was hilarious. At one point we were 4/18 in the second half, I didn't bother with the final numbers. They barely missed.

Reporter: You grabbed 7 offensive rebounds and missed all 7 putbacks from point blank range. Why do you think that is?

Tovarich: Must have been fate that we were not going to score on that possession.

Reporter: Do you think Suotamo starting caused it?

Tovarich: Both big guys scored well, just couldn't get a rebound somehow, magically. But no, it shouldn't have.

Reporter: But your team unity was lower.

        Tovarich: Still higher than theirs.

Reporter: Do you think it was because you were ranked for the first time in a while?

        Tovarich: Good chance.

Reporter: Why do you think they tried to hard to score at the end?

Tovarich: They got themselves in Denver territory now. Just to rub it in, they got two offensive rebounds in the last 10 seconds and scored the putback as time expired. There was no stopping it on that drive until they scored. They come to us in March though. We'll remember.

          Tovarich: That was better.

Reporter: Why did Camper get so many shots?

Tovarich: When you start 0-10, I just wanted to know if it was physically possible for him to make one, so I told him to keep shooting.

Reporter: How did another short center get 15 rebounds?

Tovarich: I would pay someone a lot of money to tell me the answer.

Reporter: You looked annoyed with the bench in the second half.

Tovarich: I'm trying to give them a chance to work things out. Camper's offensively challenged, so is Jordan. Shehan didn't shoot well from 1 foot away. Being up 20 is the best way to do that, and none of them were doing anything really besides Pawlak who got some steals and easy layins.

Reporter: Do you hope to fall out of the top 25?

Tovarich: May as well. It seems to make a difference.

Tovarich: Gutsy win. It seemed like everything was going against us until after 4 minutes to go, we finally changed something, not sure what, but something. I don't know what the record for free throws is in the final 38 seconds of a game but I think we may have set it. That center of theirs may be 7 feet but he averages 5 rebounds a game, 16 against us though lol. If only he got to play us 35 times a year, he'd be the greatest rebounder in history. We were lucky we finally got him in some foul trouble in the second half or he probably would've grabbed another 8 rebounds in those 3 minutes he sat. I was happy to see Shehan get his first rebound of the game late in the 2nd half. I'm surprised the numbers weren't worse.

Reporter: Li left the game injured, but returned, though his shooting was clearly ineffective. How long will he be hurt?

Tovarich: He'll be feeling the effects against Little Rock this weekend, but then should be good. We'll pull the plug on him playing quickly if he's going to struggle to shoot again.

Reporter: Galbreath had been perfect on FT's for the season until tonight, are you surprised he finally missed?

Tovarich: No, I'm never surprised when we miss FT's in the final minute. It's quite common.

Reporter: The schedule really eases up until 3 of the last 3 are against Arkansas State, FIU and Louisiana Lafayette. Do you expect to gain some momentum against some of the weaker opponents?

Tovarich: If South Alabama is still running that halfcourt trap, I expect that to be a pain again. We don't seem to play well on the road, so I don't expect any conference road games to be easy, not with this team. We're not that young, but we're wildly inconsistent like a young team.

Tovarich: Nice to have a game pretty much exactly how it should. That doesn't happen as often as I'd like.

Reporter: Li started out well, but faded quickly.

Tovarich: Yeah, not quite healthy, started 3/5 then never made another shot. He'll be back fully healthy next week. Maybe he'd be slumping right now anyway, who knows?

Reporter: They moved the PG out of the prime ball handling spot and he really took off scoring, but you didn't tighten up defense on him like normal, why not?

Tovarich: If the game were at all close, I guess I'd have cared, but we tightened up on the Grant guy who killed us in the first half. That PG didn't do anything until the second half, so the game was under control by then.

Reporter: Is it concerning that 2 starters didn't score?

Tovarich: Galbreath, no. The PG doesn't take a lot of shots around here. We were focused on getting Li going if we could, so Jack didn't get many shots. Not a big deal. Pawlak got all the time against the press in the second half, so he got the scoring. Jack probably would've refused to dunk on a breakaway but hopefully he'd have made some layups if given the chance.

Tovarich: Usually that halfcourt trap gives us more problems. We did have a handful of turnovers, but we tried something different and it went pretty well.

Reporter: Are you going to tell us what you did differently?

Tovarich: Sure, we just threw longer passes down court instead of just trying to get it across and get them into their regular halfcourt defense. They wanted to speed the game, so we sped it up too. That's why we didn't shoot many 3's, it felt like all our baskets were in transition because of that or they were in transition after turnovers, which they committed a good number of because they were so insistent on playing as fast as possible at all times.

Reporter: Were you worried about being ranked coming into the game?

Tovarich: Yeah, that's been a problem for some reason. Hopefully we're getting over it.

Reporter: South Alabama coach is upset they never got a free throw. What did you think of the officiating?

Tovarich: They mostly settled for jump shots, which isn't conducive to getting fouls. We were out in transition a lot, and the few times they were they were so far ahead of us we couldn't have fouled them if we wanted to.

Reporter: Did you feel good about winning rebounds or was it because of all their missed 3's at the end?

Tovarich: Most of those missed 3's came with the walkons and backups in, so I still don't expect many. It would be nice if your big men could get more, but they also pull our big guys away from the basket by having all their people away from the basket, so not a big deal today.

Tovarich: That was the most incredible performance by a last place Sun Belt team I've ever seen. It was pretty obvious when they were shooting 72% at halftime that the story of this one was written. I was stunned to come back and have a 2-point lead, but of course they tied it with 3 seconds to go, then won it on 2 FT's in OT with 5 seconds to go and we never even got a shot off. Bold of them to full court press up 1 with 5 seconds to go. Seems like they knew that's the exact call that would work to get a steal.

Reporter: Is it because you were ranked?

Tovarich: That seems to be a huge deal to our opponents.

Reporter: Why not play the bench more?

Tovarich: Probably should have. Li struggled, as did most of the team. We needed green jerseys to shoot well. 60% by the last place team is incredible. 15 extra shots and we couldn't beat 1-7 team in the conference. You can only laugh sometimes. All the missed layups were incredible. The -10 in rebounding was incredible. That's us against everyone pretty much, but I think we missed every putback once again anyway. Those were just not allowed, like against Florida International. Whatever, we'll be unranked next week, but unfortunately for us we only have 1 game, so Middle Tennessee has no chance.

Reporter: Why is the team so inconsistent?

                      Tovarich: Low team unity.

Tovarich: Another opponent shooting 60% as usual. I told them to stay tight on the one guard who made 80% of his 3's, yet, he was was constantly wide open. Frustrating defense. We got just enough steals to be comfortable in the second half. Li shot it well unlike the last game. Other than Shehan, can't say much for the bench.

Reporter: Does it pain you inside to rely on big guys scoring so much instead of 3's?

Tovarich: A little. They're still soft sometimes but have been good lately. We're not shooting well from the outside at all consistently. I'd love to keep pounding it in down low to get the other team's big guys in foul trouble. I feel like it should help us rebound, even though we make below average rebounders looks amazing all the time.

Reporter: Can you beat Florida Atlantic if you go back into the top 25?

                        Tovarich: Probably not.

Reporter: You said one of your experiments would be Shehan and Suotamo playing simultaneously but we've never seen it?

Tovarich: They can get tired so easily, I need one of them fresh.

Tovarich: Couldn't do much wrong there. Oh, except for the pitiful defense against all the 3's in the second half. I know I instructed everyone to stay tight on Cleland and apparently no one listened. He was wide open on every possession it seemed like. Luckily we shot so well or I'd have been angrier about that.

Reporter: Florida Atlantic coach thinks the refs were very bias.

Tovarich: I would have too, but most of those fouls were on breakaways and from behind. Everyone's going to call that. The man to man press was silly. We literally just ran by them most of the time.

Reporter: You often play against teams shooting 67%. How does it feel to do it yourself?

Tovarich: We might have been over 70 until those last few minutes. We didn't shoot well at the end there. Incredible, most of them were in the paint, but we still hit a decent amount of 3's too. Can't find much wrong on offense. Defense luckily can be forgiven because we won easily. Thank goodness we were unranked or it likely would never have happened.

Tovarich: Nice win. Very rewarding to get to 100 there at the end.

Reporter: Your team didn't seem to have the same intensity to that one that you did.

Tovarich: No, none of them were here 5 years ago when Denver fired off the 3 up 16 at the buzzer. It's all just stories to them. We had 4 guys last year who were here and 3 who started the whole time, so they knew what needed to be done. Pawlak blew that layup that would've gotten us to 100 and I was dejected, but he didn't think it was a big deal. Luckily we got one more shot at it. They remember what Florida International did last month though. That's the new Denver for them that will motivate them for years to come.

Reporter: Are you concerned their FR C got 11 boards?

Tovarich: I'm stunned when they don't. Suotamo did a fine job rebounding. We just didn't need him to stay in, so other people got some minutes. Shehan did good too. Any rebounds for Zoellner are a plus. We fired off a lot of 3's quickly before anyone was down there to rebound though, so they got a lot of uncontested boards.

Reporter: Are you worried your starters are not getting enough minutes the last few games?

Tovarich: No, that's always great. These are the results I expect to have against conference teams. We're rated 14th in the RPI, so it's a down conference and we should be dominating and it's disappointing we can't win a game once we get ranked and have 2 losses in the league.

Tovarich: Wow, hard fought win. I don't know how we did it. Another team shooting over 60% as per usual. Not surprising as we're the worst field goal defense in America. They were up at 67% at halftime, so we did a good job getting it down to only 60 for the game. Had to be hyper aggressive on defense and went for a ton of steals and we got a good number. Nice of them to go cold finally at the end a bit. I think we had 10 chances or so to tie or take the lead and we missed the first 10. Then as soon as we took the lead, I think they went on an 8-0 run immediately. Surprised we fought our way back. Couldn't rebound as usual, couldn't shoot 3's well other than Li. Bench did almost nothing. That Slattery guy should have been their plan on every possession. I don't know where he missed one during the game or I'd have fainted probably. Some other nobody off the bench got 10 points in 6 minutes. Big free throws by Galbreath with 8 seconds left to make it a 2-score game. Did I cover everything?

Reporter: Would you have won if you were ranked?

Tovarich: Knew I forgot part of my rant. No, never. No chance. Almost didn't anyway. I thought we'd be back in, maybe next week. That would be bad timing though with the Cajuns and our revenge game against Florida International.
