              Bobby Knight calls it quits

Lubbock, TX - After leading the Red Raiders to a losing season (8-8, 15-17), the time has come for Robert Montgomery Knight to say 'when'. Texas Tech University plucked one of the most successful coaches from the mid-majors, Mark Few of Gonzaga, as Knight's replacement. If anyone can fill these shoes, a talented coach like Few may be one of the best bets for eventual success at TTU.

Houston, TX - The Texas Southern Tigers have announced the hiring of two new assistant basketball coaches, 49 year old David Linebaugh and 34 year old Stefan Reed.

"Both are very experienced teachers of the game of basketball. Hopefully the quality of our play should be peaking towards the end of next season, unlike this past year." - Coach Lewis

Houston, TX - Coach Lewis is looking for his seniors to lead the way in 2007-2008.

PG - Dominique White - Sr
SG - Jacques Jones - Sr
SF - Mohamed Kovacevic - Fr
PF - Michael Drewy - Sr
                      C - Matthew Bell - Sr

                      Reserves -

                      PG - Nick Walker - Jr (walk-on)
SG - Bobby Jones - So
SG - Jonathan Frazier - Fr
SF - Sollie Norwood - Jr
PF - St. Paul Latham - So
                      C - Brian Harris - Fr
                      C - Brian Egwautu - Jr (walk-on)

                      Red Shirts -

PG - Kent Spooner - Fr
SF - Vince Bowman - Jr
                      SF - Donovan Whitted - Fr (walk-on)

                      Transfers -

PG - Shane Laurie - Jr

The biggest surprise here is the omission of Sollie Norwood from the TSU starting lineup. "So far in practice, Kovacevic has proven to be the best player we have, both in terms of pure talent and knowledge of the game. I have to give the kid a shot in our starting lineup, eventhough I may be sacrificing our short-term success this season for his overall long-term development." - Coach Lewis

Thanks for the kind words. It is quite a bit of work to record all of these postings, and I don't even come close to the level of detail as in DonC's or NoleFan's legacy threads.

This is my first legacy that I have tried recording in this manner. If for no other reason, it seems worthwhile to me when I have reviewed earlier postings to refresh my own memory about the legacy.

For a first time legacy journal writer, you are doing a great job.

Good luck to Coach Lewis from Coach Bob Knight of Army.
If you can read this, thank a teacher. If you can read this in english, thank a soldier.

Thanks! It will be quite a while before I can get as detailed as your updates, but I am trying to provide some information about each game. What I would like to do eventually is focus more on the actual coaching strategies in the various games.

Columbus, OH - The Texas Southern Tigers have started out the '07-'08 season facing the same dilemma that plagued the team at the end of last season, one-dimensional scoring. Of the 63 attempted fgs for the game, 39 (62%) of the shots were made by the two players in the #3 slot. The other 10 players on the Tigers were 4 for 24 (16.7%) from the field. "No matter how persuasively you ask, it's difficult to convince these kids that they can't always look to our SF to bail them out." - Coach Lewis

Early foul trouble helped Valpo to dig an early hole as team leader and point guard Jarryd Loyd sat out most of the first half after drawing two early fouls. Valpo coach Homer Drew showed why he is one of the best coaches in the game with his halftime adjustments. The Crusaders stayed exclusively in a 1-1-3 zone in the second half, challenging TSU to shoot out of its 3pt shooting difficulties. They also double-teamed leading scorer Kovacevic throughout the second half as well. Finally with Loyd playing most of the second half, Valpo's offense transitioned away from perimeter jump shots to driving the post more often.

"Despite the loss, you have to be pleased with freshman Kovacevic's first game. He strained his knee in the game's first minute. Yet, he played through the pain to lead us in scoring with 32 points in 21 minutes. This bodes well for his career here." - Coach Lewis

"In a match-up like this, all you can really look for is some improvement in the gameplay. We showed great improvement in diversifying our offensive scoring in this game. If we can score inside against one of the best teams in the country, we can score inside against anyone." - Coach Lewis
