    Gwanltney Back, Mountaineers Win Big!!!
Gwanltney Runs for 179 Yards in Four Touchdown Mountaineers Win

    #24 35 -- (2-1)
    N/R 07 -- (1-1)

    College Park, MD -
Finally, the Mountaineers had Jason Gwanltney back and it showed. Gwanltney was lost with a broken thumb in the first quarter of the Marshall game and also missed the Virginia Tech debacle. During that span, the Mountaineers were outscored by their opponents 62-44. Gwanltney was back in action and lighting up the scoreboard today as the junior got in his first full game of the 2007 season.

Gwanltney rushed for a stunning 179 yards on 19 carries. He averaged nearly 10 yards per carry as his average was 9.4. The junior strolled in for two first half touchdowns and was instrumental in the Mountaineers' success today.

The Mountaineers also seem to have found their quarterback after the quarterback disaster of the first two games of the season. Pat White started the game because Adam Bednarik was suspended for the first half for an unspecified reason. Pat White surprised many as he completed 14 of 21 passes for 225 yards and two touchdowns. He also managed 42 rushing yards. Bednarik came in on the first drive of the second half, but after completing his first pass for a four yard gain, he was sacked for an eight yard loss on the very next play. The play thereafter, he carelessly lobbed up a pass which was picked off and Coach Frizzell yanked him.

The Mountaineers managed 535 yards of total offense today and 306 rushing yards as the offense was on fire. However, the offense did have some trouble holding on to the football as the Mountaineers turned the ball over three times, two of which were first half fumbles and the other was the Bednarik interception early in the third quarter. The two first half fumbles killed scoring drives inside the Maryland 30 yard line. Luckily, these mistakes did not come back to haunt the Mountaineers, but it did hold them to only 14 first half points.

The defense was also stellar for the Mountaineers. Defensive coordinator Jeff Casteel has really put together a nice defense so far this season, other than the Virginia Tech game. The Terrapins were held to only 211 yards of total offense and 136 passing yards.

Mountaineers Dominate in Every Aspect of the Game!!!
Mountaineers Outgain Boise State 452-188 in 62-7 Blowout

        #21 62 -- (3-1)
        N/R 07 -- (1-1)

        Boise, ID -
Most folks came into Bronco Stadium thinking this would be a fairly close game. West Virginia looked dominant this past week against Maryland, but played very poorly against Virginia Tech. Those folks were wrong as West Virginia clearly dominated on both sides of the ball in a 62-7 thumping of the Boise State Broncos.

The game was never close after the middle of the second quarter. Boise State's lone score came midway through the second quarter off of a 1 yard run by Bryan Cavka, which made the score 14-7. However, the Mountaineers would score 17 more points that quarter to take a dominating 31-7 halftime lead.

Up 48-7 at the beginning of the third quarter, West Virginia's defense even started scoring. Defensive end Jason Karns picked up a fumble after safety Ridwan Malik jarred the ball lose form Bryan Cavka. Karns ran the ball back 55 yards for his first career touchdown. The drive thereafter, Ridwan Malik came up big again as he picked off Boise State quarterback Brian Williams and took it to the house for a 30 yard touchdown which made the score 55-7. West Virginia would add another touchdown late in the fourth to make the final score 62-7.

The game saw the emergence of a possible star in Pat White after he earned the starting job against Maryland. The junior quarterback completed 14 of 25 passes for 206 yards and a career-high four touchdowns. White looked calm in the pocket and, if he can keep it up, should really help out the offense so that opposing defenses cannot solely focus on star halfback Jason Gwanltney, who had a good day in his own right, as he tallied 121 rushing yards on 15 carries.

The Mountainers look to be back on track now after falling hard against Virginia Tech as West Virginia now owns a 3-1 record and will be looking to move into the top 20 of the coaches poll this week.

            Mountaineers Avoid Upset in Piscataway
Down 21-17 at the Half, Mountaineers Roll in the Second Half

            #20 48 -- (4-1)
            N/R 21 -- (1-2)

            Piscataway, NJ -
The final score may have indicated a 27 point Mountaineers blowout, but the reality was far different, especially in the first half. West Virginia's star halfback Jason Gwanltney was suspended for the first two quarters of the game due to missing a mandatory team practice.

Rutgers took notice of Gwanltney's absence and stormed out to an early score to make it 7-0 early on. Rutgers would tally another score later in the first and seize a 14-7 lead after a quarter of play. West Virginia halfback Pernell Williams would fumble a handoff at the beginning of the second quarter in the red zone. Rutgers would take the fumble return to the house to make the score 21-7. The Mountaineers were reeling and distraught.

Coach Frizzell gathered his troops and they responded. Pat White was effective on the ground (60 yard touchdown run) and through the air in the first half as he capped it off with an 8 yard pass to McClintic with two minutes remaining in the half to close the gap to just four points. The Mountaineers would go into halftime down 21-17, but Gwanltney would return after halftime, so hopes were high for the Mountaineers.

Coach Frizzell gave his players, especially the defense, a fiery halftime speech. Jason Gwanltney was pumped and ready to go. On Gwanltney's first carry of the game, he ran the ball 24 yards for a touchdown to push the Mountaineers in the lead. On his second carry, he carried the ball for 30 yards. This is what the Mountaineers were missing in the first half.

The Mountaineers would continue to pour it on in the second half and would go on to win 48-21. Pat White was quite effective tonight and kept the Mountaineers in the game during Gwanltney's absence. Gwanltney only carried the ball seven times, but his 93 yards and two touchdowns were crucial in the second half comeback.

The Mountaineers may have escaped for Piscataway, but this sure indicates that the Mountaineers are dependent on Jason Gwanltney to perform well. The Mountaineers will need to become more balanced if they hope to compete for a national championship.

Boo you suck. Not even in 2006 did Boise State suck that bad. I think you edited the rosters to make them bad. Plus they don't lose on the Blue... If you are going to kick their butt you need to do it on your turf.

I think after this I am going to have to boycott reading your legacy.

Haha, well Boise State is not that bad really. They won the WAC last year and will probably win again this year. It's just that they still are not as good as WVU. Plus, Gwanltney went wild in the game, so it was hard to be beat with him on top of his game.

I didn't edit the rosters either. Maybe we'll play them at home next year.

                  And don't boycott the dynasty!

Big Second Half Leads to 48 Point Blowout
Mountaineers Gain 628 Yards of Total Offense in Win

                    #16 65 -- (5-1)
                    N/R 17 -- (2-3)

Syracuse, NY - "Unbelievable," muttered Syracuse head coach Greg Robinson after he saw his team turn a halftime tie game into a 48 point loss.

The West Virginia Mountaineers got off to a rather slow start as the defense was reeling early on. Syracuse quarterback Tim Gooden passed for over 200 yards in the first half and the Orange's offense was spectacular. Unfortunately, so was West Virginia's. The Orange had collected a shade over 250 yards of total offense in the first half while West Virginia tallied a tad over 300 yards. The Orange would not even get 80 yards in the second half.

The second half featured 48 unanswered points for the Mountaineers as Syracuse was held scoreless in the second half. In fact, if you go back to the first half, the Mountaineers went on a 55-0 run after Syracuse went up 17-10 with a minute remaining in the second quarter.

Everyone was spectacular on West Virginia's offense. The team as a whole rushed for 391 yards on 40 carries. Pat White passed for 226 yards and a pair of touchdowns while rushing for 79 yards and an additional touchdown. Jason Gwanltney rushed for 128 yards and a touchdown while backup halfback Pernell Williams added 121 yards and a touchdown on only six carries. That equates to 20.1 yards per carry! Third string halfback Jack Crow scored a team-high two touchdown runs as he collected 38 rushing yards on only four carries.

The defense may have had a horrible first half, but they had a memorable second half, especially the third quarter. The Mountaineers picked off Syracuse quarterback Tim Gooden three times in the third quarter which got the Mountaineers on the run as they never looked back. Kris Tawney, Brad McClung, and Jarvis Schneider all intercepted a pass in the third quarter. Tawney took the ball to the house to get a pick-six.

The Mountaineers have shown that they have the ability to explode on the offensive side of the ball. However, they don't want to have horrible first halves like they have had in the last two games when they play good teams, because good teams will not let the Mountaineers score 55 unanswered points. Then again, maybe they will because, when the Mountaineers' offense is clicking, it seems that no one in the world can stop it.

                        Re: "Mountaineers Are Always Free"

Alrighty folks. I am out of town now and will be for the next couple of weeks just to let you know.

However, I am seriously thinking about starting another dynasty. NCAA 06 is really starting to annoy me for a few reasons:

                        1. Too many dropped passes, especially by the CPU, which leads to very low QB completion percentages.

                        2. No NCAA Mandated 12 game schedules like we have now.

                        3. No BCS National Championship Game

                        4. Other missing bowl games that are new

                        5. Wacked simulation engine. WAY too many upsets such as Florida losing to Central Florida, Louisville losing to Louisiana Tech, Army beating Wake Forest, LSU losing to Ball State, Colorado State beating USC, ect... It annoys me to no end to see 6-5 teams ranked in the top 25.

                        6. The top 25 polls rely way to much on preseason ranking. It is nearly impossible to win a national championship without being ranked in the top 10 or 15 in the preseason.

                        6. The deep ball is WAY too easy. This is not a big deal on offense because I just make myself not throw deep, but on defense I cannot stop the CPU from throwing deep and since it is impossible to defend, it leads to easy scores.

                        7. I can't find right sliders for this game. If I play on All-American, I blow my opponent out every time. If I play on Heisman, the CPU constantly throws deep and is unstoppable on offense.

                        8. Impact players are quite ridiculous. I know this is in 07 and 08, but it's not nearly as bad as 06.

That being said, I am considering a few options:

                        1. Continuing to play 06 anyways.

                        2. Starting one with 07, possibly with either a FBS or created team

                        3. Starting one with 09. When I return from vacation, I will try the 09 demo. I have not seen anything that really impresses me with 09, so I will rely on the demo to tell me if I like the game or not.

That being said, I am leaning towards 07. I know 07 opens up a whole new can of worms, but the only real problem I had with the game was with the momentum. However, I was testing out the aub's all-american sliders and they were playing pretty well, even with the momentum.

I won't be making a decision until a get back home in a few weeks, but I thought I'd let you know of the decisions still out there on the table.

Oh, and I'll be beginning my NASCAR 09 dynasty when I return as well. I am excited about that..

And, of course, I will be continuing my CH 2K8 dynasty I have going. I have had that going for 4 seasons of game time and don't plan on stopping anytime soon!

                            Yeah, thanks.

Right now I am leaning towards creating a school on NCAA 07. We'll see, though that is what I am leaning to as of now. My mind may change once I return from vacation though.
