    Boston Colonials (NCAA 07)

University of Boston Will Begin New Football Program

BOSTON, MA - Today, we have learned that the University of Boston Colonials will begin fielding a football team in the 2006 season. The school has previously never fielded a football team. Athletic director Michael Morris announced that the new football team would compete in division 1, most likely as an Independent. "We are proud to finally get a football field out there. This will surely help our reputation and we are excited to get underway. We are ready to give the people of Boston a team to cheer for!"

The school also will partner with the city of Boston to build Samuel Adams Field, which should open in the spring of 2006, just in time for the football season in fall. The stadium will be shaped like a bowl - think of the "Big House" - and will seat 74,000 spectators.

James Frizzell, a graduate of West Virginia University, was named head coach today as well. Frizzell has no prior head coaching experience at the collegiate level, but the 25 year old has had great success at the AAA level in West Virginia high school sports, leading his team to a state title last year. He stated, "I am happy to be part of this new team. I hope to get a team out on the field that can be competive and maybe even sprinkle a few championships in there."

Frizzell will fuction as the team's offensive and defensive coordinator. "I like to run the show," he joked.

The team will be built off of walk-ons and transfers from other schools and the three lower NCAA divisions.

    Syraucse Handed NCAA's "Death Penalty"

SYRACUSE, NY - Oh, how the Orange have fallen. Once a prestigious program that won a national championship in 1959, the Orange have been handed the NCAA's Death Penalty.

NCAA Investigators have noted that the Orange have been luring recruits to the program by offering free money, drugs, alcohol, and also prostitution. The university has apparently been paying players and undisclosed amount of money in addition to the numerous recruiting violations.

The football program has decided to drop it's once proud football program after major reprocussions were placed upon the school, a move that shoked the Orange fateful. The school was to have numerous scholarships taken away and would have not been allowed to field a football team in the 2006 and 2007 seasons. The team would not have been allowed to play a home game until 2010.

This opens to door up for a possible new member of the Big East Conference. Several schools have been placed up for consideration, including East Carolina, Memphis, and Central Florida.

Boston Will Replace Syracuse in Big East

NEW YORK, NY - Big East commissioner Mike Tranghese announced that the Boston Colonials would play their inaugural season in the Big East Conference. The team will face an uphill battle, most likely, as it will be competing in one of the six major conferences right for the beginning, but Boston Athletic Director Michael Morris was very pleased that this opportunity presented itself.

Morris stated, "We certainly did not expect to be playing in a BCS conference in our first season, but we are blessed to receive this opportunity. All the right pieces fell into place; maybe we are destined for greatness."

                Boston Colonials 2006 Season Preview

BOSTON, MA - The city of Boston, a city that expects it's teams to win and win often, has now added it's second football team as the University of Boston has fielded their first ever football team this year. Their new coach expects this team to win. The city expects them to win. The questions still remains: will they win? We will have to wait and see.

The team fields a very good offense for it's first year, led by junior quarterback Chad Kemp. Kemp will be the leader of the offense and will be throwing the ball a lot as Coach Frizzell has a reputation of throwing the football early and often. He is backed up by Marques Prater, Paul Mitchell, and Rashaun Poe, all of which are very solid quarterbacks in their own right.

It is uncertain who will start at the halfback position this season. Sophomore Steven Harris will be the opening day starter, but fellow sophomore Billy Sims will battle with him for playing time. Both are 5-11 and weight 221 and 219 pounds respectively and play a very similar style. Freshman Jay Washington could battle for playing time as well. Brian Johnson will start at fullback for the Colonials and should be a very solid blocker.

The receiving corps is highlighted by junior wide receiver Eric Callahan. Callahan is very speedy and has sure hands. He will be Chad Kemp's #1 target this year. Khakif Fitzhugh is a possession receiver and will start as well while Joe Harley and Andrew O'Brian will battle it out for playing time at the slot. Henry Tereshinksi will start at tight end. He is a solid blocker, but has the ability to catch a few passes here and there as well.

The offensive line is very mediocre and no one really stands out. The offensive line needs to be able to protect Chad Kemp, otherwise things will get ugly real fast. Junior center Ben Stegall is generally considered to be the best of the bunch, but he is certainly no star either.

The defense is where it gets ugly for the Colonials. The best part of the defense is the defensive line, but there is not much skill there either. Jamil O'Brien will be the leader of this unit. Bruce Alston shows some potential to develop into a solid player in the future as the freshman will start at right end right off the bat.

Boston runs a 3-4 defense and there will be four linebackers starting for the Colonials, but there is not much talent at all. Steve Stewart is the best player of the unit, but even he would not start for most every other team in the nation.

The secondary is, simply put, pathetic. There is not much speed here and the secondary will have a lot of trouble playing man coverage due to their severe lack of speed. Look for the Colonials to be playing a whole lot of zone coverage this year due to this fact.

The special teams should be decent. Freshman Jake Manning should provide a steady leg at kicker. He will also start at punter, but he has not shown much skill at that position. Coach Frizzell will be quick to put in Carlon Alford at punter if Manning does not perform.

The Schedule: The Colonials open up the season with two home games against Buffalo and Florida Atlantic. The Colonials then travel across the country to play Boise State before heading home to play FCS William and Mary. The Colonials close off the non-conference schedule against crosstown rival Boston College. The Colonials get Pittsburgh, #10 Louisville, and Connecticut at home in Big Eats play, so there is a chance that the Colonials could pull off an upset or two in conference play.

Best Offensive Player: Junior WR Eric Callahan. He is possibly the best receiver in the Big East and could be an All-American candidate before the season is over.

Best Defensive Player: No one. The entire defense sucks.

Key Player to a Successful Season: Junior QB Chad Kempt. If he can execute the passing attack well, this team could possibly go bowling.

The season will be a success if... the Colonials go bowling.

Key Game: Week one against Buffalo. If the Colinials can beat Buffalo, they could possibly get things rolling and start the season 3-1 before heading to Boston College. This game would be key if the Colonials hope to go bowling this year.

                            Buffalo (0-0) @ Boston (0-0)

Boston Wins Big, but Suffers Huge Loss

BOSTON, MA - Today was a great day and a terrible day for Boston fans. On the bright side, the Colonials surprisingly blew out the Buffalo Bulls by a score of 39-8 as the lackluster Colonials defense player much better than expected, holding the Bulls to just one touchdown and 240 yards of total offense. However, there was a dark side as well.

With only 40 seconds remaining in the game, Coach Frizzell still had his first-stringers out on the field burning out the clock. Star wide receiver Eric Callahan, who had 10 receptions for 193 yards and three touchdowns on the day, ran a route and made a catch for a short gain to pick up another first down as the Colonials were burning up the clock. However, Callahan did not get up. The crowd sobbed as Callahan was rolled off the field on a stretcher. Callahan suffered a hip fracture and is expected to miss the remainder of the season. "I was so stupid for keeping him out there!" exclaimed an angry Coach Frizzell about Callahan's injury. "I have no idea why my first-string was still out on the field with the game well in hand and under control. I guess I have learned my lesson."

The Colonials opened up the game with a long four minute drive that ended with a one yard run by fullback Brian Johnson. Boston would score on their next drive as well as Jake Manning kicked a 24 yard field goal to make the score 10-0. Buffalo was forced to punt again at midfield. Eric Callahan, in perhaps his only mistake of the entire afternoon, muffed the incoming punt and the ball went into the endzone. Boston recovered the fumble, but was tackled in the endzone and a safety was scored to close the gap to 10-2. Buffalo drove straight down the field on the safety punt and a 12 yard connection from Fontenot to Watkins made the score 10-8. Fortunately for the Colonials, the Bulls missed the two point conversion and the score remained at 10-8. After a 78 yard pass from Kemp to Callaham to close the second quarter, the Colonials ran away with the game, scoring 29 unanswered points from that point on to win the game 39-8.

The defense was surprisingly good as the Colonials only allowed nine rushing yards on 15 carries in the game. The Bulls did gain 231 passing yards, but the lack of a ground game ultimately cost the Bulls as their offense was very consistent. They would get to midfield, then stall out oftentimes since they did not have a consistent rushing attack.

Chad Kemp had a field day in the west coast offense that Coach Frizzell has implemented as Kemp threw for 396 yards and three touchdowns. He did throw a pair of interceptions in the second half, but both were well after the game was in hand and had little effect on the game.
