Boston Escapes From Buffalo With One Point Win!!!

BUFFALO, NY - Once again, the Boston Colonials have started the year off 1-0 and have beaten the Buffalo Bulls. Last year, the Colonials blew out the Bulls in Boston, but this year's edition was very tightly contested and both teams had numerous opportunities to win.

Boston went up 13-0 early and the Colonials' offense was clicking on all cylinders between the twenties. However, once in the red zone the Colonials offense struggled to get touchdowns. In their six trips to the red zone in the game, Boston had to settle for three field goals and one missed field goal in six red zone trips, meaning that Boston only scored a touchdown 33% of the time once in the red zone.

Buffalo came storming back and claimed a slim one point advantage at the half with the score 14-13 in favor of the Bulls. Boston tacked on a 37 yard field goal early in the third quarter to make it 16-14 Boston. However, Manning missed an easy chip shot 23 yard field goal with time expiring in the third quarter which was just another example of missed of Boston's missed opportunities. Buffalo drove right down the field, but middle linebacker Mickey Stanley picked off Buffalo quarterback Mike Fontenot to halt the Bulls' offense. After a three and out by Boston, Buffalo got the ball back and scored a touchdown to make it 20-16 after the Bulls failed to convert the two point conversion with a little over two and a half minutes remaining in the ballgame.

Chad Kemp scampered in from 14 yards out to make the score 23-20 with just a minute and a half remaining. However, Buffalo got the ball back and Mike Fontenot hooked up with star wide receiver Myron Osborne for an 82 yard touchdown pass on the first play of the drive to make it 26-23. Now came the extra point. The PAT was blocked, Boston's first block in school history, but was recovered by Buffalo and taken in for the two point conversion, a momentum buster for the Colonials, whose great play turned into an extra point for Buffalo.

Then came another first for the Boston Colonials. Steven Harris received the ensuing kickoff and darted fast a few defenders and ran in for a 94 yard kickoff return, Boston's first kickoff or punt return for a touchdown in school history. The score made it 29-28 and Boston failed to convert the two point conversion so the Colonials held on to a mere one point lead.

Buffalo got the ball back and made their way up field to midfield with 20 seconds remaining. A couple of incomplete passes later, the Bulls had only two seconds left on the game clock and needed a hail mary to answer their prayers. Mike Fontenot didn't even get off a pass as linebacker Byron Kirby came in to creme Fontenot for a sack and end the ballgame as the Colonials improve to 1-0 on the year!

"Wow, what a game," said Coach Frizzell following the dramatic ending. We missed a lot of golden opportunities out there, but made some clutch plays like Harris' kickoff return. This was the most thrilling, tensive, and exciting game I have ever coaching without a doubt!"

        great win man...

I had a similar win like that in my ncaa 08 dynasty... I play with a created team in the Pac-10 and I was ranked #4 against #3 USC... they scored with 3 minutes to go and I returned the kickoff for a TD...

        held on to win 27-24

Yeah, it was a good feeling winning because of a kick return for a touchdown. That really was one of the most exciting games I have played in a long time. Tensions were flaring, the game was back and forth, my nerves were going off! It was fun!

          Thanks for following of course!

            Boston College (1-0) @ Boston (1-0)

Boston Comes From Behind to Upset Eagles for Second Consecutive Year!!!

BOSTON, MA - For the second consecutive year, the Boston Colonials have upset the Boston College Eagles. Last year it was Boston who jumped out to an early lead and led 23-0 at halftime before Boston College came storming back to take the lead before falling in the fourth quarter. This time it was Boston College who jumped out to an early lead as the Eagles shut down the Colonials' offense in the first half and held a 10-0 halftime advantage.

"At that point, I was very worried," said Coach Frizzell. "We changed some things around at halftime and obviously they worked well in the second half."

Boston stormed back to score 21 points in the third quarter and was behind 24-21 entering the final quarter of play. Boston scored the go-ahead touchdown with five minutes remaining after Chad Kemp found Eric Callahan for his fourth touchdown pass of the day and Callahan's third touchdown reception. Boston College fumbled the ensuing kickoff, allowing Boston to tack on another touchdown to go up 35-24 with 4:49 left.

Boston College added a 45 field goal with 51 seconds left to make the score 35-27, but failed to recover the onside kick. However, Boston fumbled the ball away while trying to pick up a first down to run out the clock and Boston College recovered. Matt Ryan led the Eagles to midfield, but his Hail Mary came up short and the Colonials upset the Eagles for the second year in a row.

After only throwing for 75 yards in the first half, Chad Kemp had a sensational second half as he ended with 312 yards passing, four touchdowns, and an interception. Eric Callahan lived up to the hype as he grabbed 11 crucial receptions for 167 yards and three touchdown, tying the school record that he set on the very first game of the 2006 season against Buffalo.

Boston will play Maine next in what should be a cakewalk if the Colonials keep up their great play. If they win, Boston will be 3-0 when they host the 25th ranked Boise State Broncos in two weeks. However, the Colonials must not look past Maine as they lost to William & Mary last year in a shocking 50-20 blowout.

                Maine (FCS) @ Boston (2-0)

                Boston Wins Big Over Maine

BOSTON, MA - Boston is now 1-1 against FCS, formerly 1-AA, opponents. Boston revenged it's embarrassing 50-20 loss against William & Mary last year with a 77-6 thumping of Maine. Boston has now equaled it's number of wins from last year, as well, as the Colonials are now 3-0 after going 3-9 just a season ago.

This game featured six firsts for Boston. Boston scored the most points in school history (77) and allowed the fewest points in school history (6). Also, freshman Mark Moore returned the first interception for a touchdown in school history as he took a pick-six back 46 yards to give Boston a 21-0 lead in the first quarter. Also, Eric Callahan returned Boston's first punt return for a touchdown late in the third quarter when he outran everyone on a 63 yard punt return. Chad Kemp also tossed a school-record six touchdown passes for the Colonials, all of which came in the first half! Eric Callahan grabbed a school-record five touchdowns!

Boston's offense was sensational, especially when the first stringers were in during the first half. Boston ended with 575 yards of total offense. Chad Kemp made only one mistake all day long, an interception, but still ended the day going 18-20 for 310 yards and a school-record six touchdown passes. Steven Harris rushed for 111 yards while Billy Sims rushed to 68 yards and a touchdown and Jay Washington rushed for a pair of touchdowns and 40 yards. Eric Callahan grabbed five touchdown passes and 187 yards on just eight receptions.

Boston moves to 3-0, but must take on a very good Boise State squad next week. The Broncos fell out of the top 25 last week with a 27-10 loss to Washington, but are still very talented, though they are not as good as during the Jared Zabransky era.

                Boston - 77, Maine - 6

                ME: 03-03-00-00

                Box Score

                        Boise State (1-1) @ Boston (3-0)

Last Second Field Goal Pushes Boston Past Boise State

BOSTON, MA - Boston lost 91-42 last year to Boise State in Boise, Idaho. This year, the two teams met in Boston, Massachusetts. The result was Boston's fourth win of the season as the Colonials are now 4-0 on the season heading into Big East Conference play next week.

This game was quite the defensive battle. Boise State had lost Ian Johnson to an injury and Jared Zabranksy graduated last year, so the Broncos' offense was stagnant and just not very good. Boise State made a living running the ball down the gut of the defense while only passing for a mere 53 yards.

Boston led 21-14 midway through the fourth quarter and was looking to put the game away with another touchdown. However, Chad Kemp was picked off and Boise State got the ball. Boise State ended up punting, but after holding Boston to a three-and-out, the Broncos got the ball back on Boston's 39 yard line. Vincent Jacobs, who had three touchdowns and 115 yards rushing on the day, finished off the drive with a 33 yard touchdown run to tie the game at 21.

Boston would not give up, however. After an exchange of possessions once again as both teams struggled to move the ball, Boston got the ball back with two minutes remaining. Kemp and company moved the ball efficiently and got inside the red zone with a minute left. After a few runs, the Colonials set up Jake Manning with a 20 yard field goal which he promptly drained with time expiring, winning the game for the Colonials 24-21.

"It was a great win for us and I am glad that we were able to hang on for the win," said Coach Frizzell. "We hung on and Jake [Manning] showed a lot of poise going out there to kick the field goal. 4-0 is a great start and this looks to be our year to make a bowl game!"

On a darker note, linebacker Byron Kirby suffered a broken wrist in the game and will be out for the remainder of the season.

Yeah, we really are on a roll. I don't see us continuing this run for too much longer, but a bowl game looks to be likely.

                                Boston (4-0) @ Connecticut (4-0)

                                Boston Upsets UConn

EAST HARTFORD, CT - Both teams came into the game 4-0. Only one would leave with an unblemished record. That team was Boston as the Colonials jumped out to an early 15-0 lead and were able to hold on for the victory at "The Rent".

Boston's Chad Kemp set the Boston passing yards record for a single game today as he completed 32 of 44 passes for 407 yards and three touchdowns. Unfortunately, Kemp also made three key mistakes. He fumbled the ball diving into the endzone with the score 3-0 Boston. Luckily, Boston was able to force a safety and get the ball back, but it could have been a dagger for the Colonials if they did not get the safety. Kemp also threw two interceptions, one of which was in the endzone.

Kemp hooked up with Eric Callahan 13 times for a school-record 230 yards. He also caught one touchdown pass and ran back a kickoff for a touchdown, the second kickoff returned for a touchdown in school history. Callahan is a definite Heisman contender, as is Kemp, and the two have produced what is considered by many to be the most potent quarterback-receiver combination in the nation.

Boston was able to sneak by the pesky Huskies to improve to 1-0 in conference play, but the schedule only gets tougher from here on out. Next week, the Colonials play #1 West Virginia at Samuel Adams Memorial Field. Then the rest of the Big East slate comes up thereafter which looks to be rather tough, so I wouldn't expect the Colonials to walk away next week still undefeated as the best team in the country visits Boston.
