          Wolverines destroy the Owls

          ANN ARBOR, Michigan --
In 132 years of playing football, there aren't many teams that the Michigan Wolverines have not played. Before yesterday, the Florida Atlantic Owls were one of them. After a 38-3 whooping, however, the Owls might not be so excited about a second game against the Wolverines

Now in his third season as a starter, Steven Threet is going to have to be the man on offense for the Wolverines, especially with the departure of stud running back Brandon Minor. After throwing three touchdown passes in the opener against Arkansas State, Threet threw four touchdowns yesterday against the Owls, a career-high.

With Minor gone, Sam McGuffie takes over the reigns at running back, and yesterday he showed why he was one of the most highly-recruited backs two seasons ago. McGuffie rushed for 135 yards and a touchdown on just 23 carries against an Owls rush defense that looked like it was standing still.

The Michigan defense looked sharp in the game, especially against the pass. Florida Atlantic quarterback Jeff VanCamp was picked off three times, one a piece by Donovan Warren, Zach Johnson, and Boubacar Cissoko. Michigan defensive end Ryan Van Bergen led the attack with seven tackles, two for a loss, and a sack.

With two "easy" games out of the way, the Wolverines head to South Bend next week for one of the toughest, if not the toughest, game of the year. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are ranked #5 in the nation, and they are coming off a 54-17 rout of Purdue. Redshirt sophomore quarterback Brian Castello led's a potent Irish offense, although he will be without playmaking receiver Golden Tate due to a mild concussion suffered yesterday.

Just got caught up reading everything. First off congrats on the title, who would have thought it would be that quick of a turnaround? And a now you got a decent QB for next year. Good luck against Notre Dame.

i got lucky with the title, I should have lost against Ohio State (I played soooo bad), and against the Sooners, but managed to get lucky at the right time. Sorry for how quickly I advanced, I just had a couple of days off work and played a lot cause i was bored.

hey thanks man, I'll be following ur dynasty too. I cant wait to play the Irish. If I end up going undefeated this season, I may tweak the sliders or start putting house rules on recruiting.

                        Heartbreak in South Bend

                        SOUTH BEND, Indiana --
This is what college football is all about. A classic game beyond two bitter rivals that goes into overtime, with hard tackles, big plays, and touchdowns a plenty. Yesterday's Michigan-Notre Dame game was a classic for the edges, as the Irish upset the Wolverines 48-45 in the third overtime.

Through his first two games of the 2010 season, Michigan quarterback Steven Threet had not thrown an interception. He picked a bad time to start, as the junior was picked off three times by the Notre Dame secondary, including one in the endzone during the third overtime with the Irish that sealed a victory for coach Weis and Notre Dame. Threet still had a great game despite the three picks, as he threw for 262 yards and four touchdown passes, the second time this season he has thrown for four scores.

The game also showcased a couple of individual match-ups that did not disappoint. Threet and Notre Dame quarterback Brian Castello went punch-for-punch throughout much of the contest, as Castello threw for 320 yards and three touchdowns. Michigan running back Sam McGuffie and Irish running back Eras Noel also traded blows, as Noel gained 110 yards on 21 carries and scored twice, while McGuffie ran for a career-high 166 yards on 31 carries and score once.

So the Irish walk away winners in this season's rendition of this historic rivalry, but the damage is not too bad for the Wolverines. The Wolverines dropped from #4 to #9, while the Irish just moved from #5 into the slot left by Michigan. The Wolverines are still one of the favorites to win the Big Ten Title, along with #2 Ohio State.

The Wolverines will look to bounce back from a tough first loss of the season that snapped a 16 game winning streak going all the way back to 2008. They do not play this Saturday, but coach Rodriguez will surely have his team practice hard for their game in Champaign against the Illinois Fighting Illini in two weeks. The Illini lost their season opener big time to Missouri, but have bounced back with wins against Southern Illinois and Kansas. They also have a bye week this week.

                        Players of the Game
                        Michigan - QB Steven Threet: 26/43, 262 Yards, 4 TD, 3 Int
