Things are starting to come around for the Wolverines. Don't overlook Northwestern though.

        Bring on the Buckeyes

        UNIVERSITY PARK, Pennsylvania --
The stage is set for a mammoth match-up this Saturday in the Big House in Ann Arbor. The Michigan Wolverines rolled past the Penn State Nittany Lions 28-12 yesterday in Beaver Stadium. Their eleventh straight victory helped the Wolverines jump to #4 in this week's poll, three spots behind the #1 Ohio State Buckeyes.

But before they could focus on the game with the Buckeyes, the Wolverines had to get past a tough Penn State squad on the road. Beaver Stadium is one of the toughest stadiums to play in on the road in the Big Ten. The weather was perfect for a Big Ten game, with frigid temperatures, snow, and plenty of hard hits to please fans. However, the single-digit temperatures did nothing to slow down a red-hot Wolverines team.

Quarterback Steven Threet came out of the locker room throwing darts, and he threw two touchdown passes within three minutes of each other in the first quarter to put Michigan up 14-0 and quiet the hostile crowd. Threet would throw three touchdown passes for the second straight game, with his third touchdown pass coming in the fourth.

The Wolverines continued to manhandle the Nittany Lions in the second quarter. Penn State finally got on the board thanks to a field goal by Eric Johnson, but the Wolverines would respond with a good drive capped off by a bruising touchdown run by Brandon Minor.

Penn State actually outscored the Wolverines 9-7 in the second quarter, but it was too little too late to gain the victory. The Lions finally scored a touchdown when Pat Devlin hit Kirk Cousins in the endzone, but they failed the two-point conversion and failed to recover the onside kick attempt. The Wolverines would run the clock out, and they won by the final score of 28-12.

If the Wolverines manage to upset the Buckeyes next week, they will win the Big Ten and will go at least to the Rose Bowl. The Wolverines would go to the National Championship Game if they beat the Buckeyes and either Oklahoma or Arizona State lose a game. The Sooners have one game left against Virginia, while the Sun Devils have two tough games left against #5 Southern California and #23 Arizona. The Buckeyes control their own destiny, if they win against the Wolverines and Rutgers in two weeks, the Buckeyes will advance to Championship Game for the fourth straight season.

Wow ASU is good in year 2? Usually they stink after losing Rudy, I wonder if it is Jack Elway that is leading them lol.

Re: Return to Glory - A Michigan Dynasty

                  Hail to the Victors

ANN ARBOR, Michigan -- The Michigan Wolverines played perhaps their worst game of the 2009 season. They rushed for a season-low 79 yards, allowed a season-high 179 yards on the ground, and turned the ball over three times, all of them interceptions by Steven Threet. But none of that matters, because the Wolverines finally beat the Buckeyes.

When Michael Motley's kick barely cleared the crossbar to give the Wolverines a 19-17 lead with 10 seconds left in the game, five years of futility against the Buckeyes disappeared. Two plays later, when Jonathan Amos picked off Terrelle Pryor and slid to the ground with no time left on the clock, the Wolverines sideline swarmed the field, Rich Rodriguez got a gatorade shower, and the stands in the Big House erupted with cheers for the Maize and Blue.

After an early field goal for Ohio State, the Wolverines dominated the remainder of the first half. Steven Threet hooked up with Darryl Stonum in the endzone for the ninth time this season, and freshman kicker Michael Motley hit the first two of his four field goals in the game. The Wolverines carried a 13-3 lead into half-time, and the fans were so happy they had forgotten about the single-digit temperatures and the layer of snow that had accumulated everywhere.

The third quarter belonged to Ohio State and their star running back Brandon Saine. Saine ran for touchdowns on two consecutive Buckeye drives in the third, giving the Buckeyes a 17-13 lead heading into the fourth. Saine ended up having the best day against the Wolverines that any running back has had this season. Saine carried the ball just 16 times, but racked up 165 yards and two touchdowns. Saine's exploits included a 64 yard scamper that gave the visiting Buckeyes the lead and quieted the crowd.

The fourth quarter was a defensive slugfest between two stifling defenses. Michael Motley hit two more field goals, including the game-winning boot with fifteen seconds left. The Wolverines defense really shined in the fourth, as they held the Buckeyes to just 24 yards and two first downs in the final seven minutes of football.

So the Wolverines wrap up their 2009 regular season with a 12-0 record and several impressive wins. All they can do is sit, and wait for the computers to sort things out. The Wolverines are currently ranked #3 in the nation in the Associated Press Poll, but #2 in the BCS Standings, behind only the 12-0 Oklahoma Sooners, who have also finished their regular season. The only wild card could be the Arizona State Sun Devils, who are just .001 point behind the Wolverines in the BCS polls. Both the Sun Devils have one more big game against the #20 Arizona Wildcats in Tempe, and a big win could vault them past the Wolverines.

                              Champions of the West

                              PASADENA, California --
Football has changed since the Michigan Wolverines first took the field to play the game that has made the university well-known all around the world. Players have got faster, scores have inflated, an overall the game has become offensive-oriented.

The 2009 BCS National Championship Game was a game for the old times, the "golden years" of collegiate football. It wasn't a pretty game, and it certainly won't get the highest tv rating, and many people may speculate that the BCS got it wrong, and these were not the two best teams in the country.

The Michigan Wolverines and Oklahoma Sooners battled all afternoon long yesterday, trading blows in an epic defensive struggle in one of the oldest stadiums in the nation. The Rose Bowl, a stadium that has seen Heisman winners and future presidents play on its hallowed field, played witnessed to a tremendous battle of defenses yesterday.

There were the Wolverines, who have risen from near obscurity to once again establish themselves as one of the best college football teams in the nation. A team that battled an inconsistent offense, but rode a workhorse running game and one of the best defenses ever to a spot in the National Championship.

There were the Sooners, who dominated nearly every opponent they played, with a Heisman winner at running back, and the best freshman quarterback in the country behind center. Only three of the Sooner's thirteen victories this season came with a margin of victory of less than ten points. The Sooners had a prolific offense, scoring over forty points nine times.

So the stage was set for a duel of titans, the unstoppable force against the immovable object. Both teams started out slow, as the offense struggled to get anything going. Running back DeMarco Murray carried the Sooners early, and they held a 10-3 lead going into halftime.

Early in the second half, tragedy would strike the Wolverines, as star running back Brandon Minor went down with an injured elbow, and went into the locker room for x-rays. But, senior tailback Carlos Brown stepped up and showed what he could to with the football. Brown led the Wolverines on their best drive of the game early in the third quarter, as they drove easily down the field and scored their first touchdown on a one-yard run by Brown. The Sooners would then get two field goals, and they entered the final quarter of play with a 16-10 lead.

The fourth quarter was all about the Wolverines running game, as Brown and then Brandon Minor ran with the ball and ran out the clock. The Wolverines held the ball for over 3/4 of the quarter, with Brown scoring his second rushing touchdown of the game early. The Michigan defense flexed its muscles and held the Sooners to no points in the final quarter, and eventually the clock read 0:00 with the score of Michigan - 17, Oklahoma - 16.

The Wolverines sideline stormed the field and head coach Rich Rodriguez got his second Gatorade shower in as many games. The cheers from the Michigan side of the stadium could be heard all the way back in Ann Arbor, where jubilation was the word of the day. Hail, Hail to Michigan, the Champions of the West!
