    Road Warriors

WEST LAFAYETTE, Indiana -- After not rushing for 100 yards for the first six games of this season, Michigan running back Brandon Minor has reached the century mark in three of his last four games, including a season-high 145 yards in Michigan's 37-23 win over Purdue.

Minor has been the key cog in the Wolverine's offense attack ever since starting Quarterback Steven Threet went down with an injury that will cost him the rest of the regular season. Sophomore back-up Nick Sheridan has shown signs of greatness in his last two starts, but he has been inconsistent throwing the ball.

Sheridan was solid yesterday against the Boilermakers shaky defense. Sheridan missed on only eight passes throughout the game, racking up 235 yards and his first collegiate passing touchdown to go along with an interception. Two other Michigan freshman also got into the endzone for the first time in their collegiate career, as running back Sam McGuffie rushed for one late, and wide receiver Martavious Odoms caught a seventy yard touchdown pass from Sheridan in the third quarter.

The semifinalists for college football's season awards were announced yesterday, and there are several Wolverines in the running. Sophomore corner Donovan Warren is having one of the best seasons ever for a Michigan defensive back, and he is currently in the lead in the races for the Bednarik and Jim Thorpe awards. Defensive end Brandon Graham is in the running for the Lombardi Award, and Obi Ezeh is third in the race for the best linebacker award. Zoltan Mesko rounds out the list, he currently is the favorite for the Ray Guy Award.

The Wolverines will travel to the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome for a showdown next week with the rival Minnesota Golden Gophers. The annual contest is named the "Battle for the Little Brown Jug", and is one of the best in the Big Ten.

Re: Return to Glory - A Michigan Dynasty

                Upset in the Dome

                MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota --
The Michigan Wolverines lost their second game of the 2008 season, as they were upset 24-19 by the Minnesota Golden Gophers in the Metrodome. Michigan Quarterback Nick Sheridan continued to struggle, as he threw two interceptions, both of which were returned for a touchdown.

The Wolverines and Gophers have been playing for the Little Brown Jug since 1909. The Jug was supposedly brought to the University of Minnesota in 1903 by the Wolverines, because Michigan head coach Ned Yost was afraid the Gophers fans would poison the water supply. That year's game was a 6-6 tie, and in the confusion of the end of the game, Yost and the Wolverines left the Jug behind. The Gophers kept the Jug, and refused to give it back until the Wolverines "won it back". The Wolverines have dominated the series, winning 66 of the contests, as opposed to the 23 victories the Gophers have managed. One of those victories came yesterday.

The Gophers absolutely dominated the first half of the game, as they scored all of their points for the game in the first half, carrying a 24-7 lead into halftime. The Gophers had two pick-six's, a touchdown pass by Quarterback Adam Weber, and a field goal in the first half, as opposed to just one touchdown for the Wolverines, a four yard run by Brandon Minor.

Michigan running back Brandon Minor's afternoon was cut short by a bruised shoulder that was severe enough to knock him out of the game after rushing for just 40 yards on nine carries. Back-up Carlos Brown had some success after Minor came out in the second quarter, as he carried the ball 20 times for 79 yards.

If you looked at the raw statistics for the football game, you would be almost certain that the Wolverines won. Michigan dominated in almost all of the aspects of the game, outgaining the Gophers by 131 yards, including outrushing them 125 yards to just 50 yards. The three turnovers by the Wolverines, including the two interceptions returned for a touchdown, really hurt them, as did the fact they scored on only half of their redzone visits.

The Wolverines will attempt to rebound from a crushing loss to win next week against Northwestern in Ann Arbor. It will be senior day for the Wolverines, and there are 12 senior playing their final home game next week.

                Players of the Game:

                Scoring Summary:

                        Taming the Wildcats

                        ANN ARBOR, Michigan --
For twelve seniors, this was their last college football game in Michigan Stadium. The last time that they would run out of the tunnel to a 100,000 plus voices raised in a thunderous cheer. The last time they would jump up and touch the "Go Blue" banner, and then go take their place on the sideline where greats such as Charles Woodson, Brian Griese, and Braylon Edwards once roamed.

Of those twelve seniors, ten play defense for the Wolverines. And it was that defense that dominated the Northwestern Wildcats and held them to just three points and 195 offensive yards in a 17-3 senior day victory. From corner back Morgan Trent, who earned Player of the Game honors while recording six tackles and intercepting two passes, to defensive tackle Will Johnson, who recorded a sack to go along with six tackles of his own.

The Wolverines got off to a good start in the first quarter, as running back and return man Carlos Brown returned the opening kickoff 84 yards for a touchdown. In the second quarter, starting running back Brandon Minor would add to the score with his eleventh rushing touchdown of the season, and the Wolverines headed into half-time ahead 17-3.

The second half was very defensive, as a field goal by Northwestern kicker Amado Villareal in the third quarter was the only scoring for either team. The Wildcats twice drove into the redzone, but both times Quarterback C.J. Bacher was picked off by Morgan Trent in the endzone.

With the Wildcats out of the way, the biggest game of the Wolverine's season is just one week away. The fierce rivalry between the Wolverines and the Ohio State Buckeyes will be renewed for the 105th time. The Buckeyes are ranked #2 in the nation, and will most likely clinch a spot in the BCS National Championship Game if they beat Michigan, which is never an easy task. Ironically, however, the Buckeyes cannot win their own division, the Big Ten. Since the Wisconsin Badgers are done with conference play with a 7-1 record, even if the Buckeyes win (which would put their conference record at 7-1), they cannot go to the Rose Bowl because the Badgers beat the Buckeyes in head-to-head play.

Its fun to rebuild Michigan. I'm running them in an online dynasty and went 7-6 year one, won Humanitarian bowl then 11-2 in year two, won Capital One bowl. Also just picked up an awsome scrambling QB to be the next face of Michigan football.

I'll keep reading your updates, & let you know how my guys are doing too.

                                M GO BLUE!!
