Re: Return to Glory - A Michigan Dynasty

I should be pretty good this year, although if any of my offensive linemen get injured I could be in trouble because I have almost no depth because I didnt realize I was over the player limit and of course the CPU cut three offensive linemen.

Re: Return to Glory - A Michigan Dynasty

                Wolverines ground the Eagles

                ANN ARBOR, Michigan --
Michigan running back Brandon Minor struggled early in the 2008 season, but the Wolverine's 2009 season opener against the Eastern Michigan Eagles saw no struggles by Minor, as he put on a show for the hometown crowd.

Minor rushed for just 101 yards on 20 carries, but he scored a career-high three rushing touchdowns against the Eagles. The senior scored touchdowns on three consecutive Michigan drives, and he scored 21 unanswered points by himself.

Sophomore Quarterback Steven Threet completed just fifteen passes for 187 yards and one touchdown, but he didn't need to because of Minor's workhorse-like day. Threet did a good job of spreading the ball around, as nine different Wolverines players caught a pass yesterday.

With the Eagles out of the way and their first win of the season in the books, the Wolverines move on to some bigger competition next week. The Wolverines will play the Oregon Ducks next week in Ann Arbor. The Ducks embarrassed the Wolverines in the Big House in 2006, so the Wolverines and Minor will be looking to exact some revenge on Oregon.

                    Wolverines go Duck Hunting

                    ANN ARBOR, Michigan --
Back in the 2007 season, the Oregon Ducks came into the Big House in Ann Arbor and shocked the Michigan Wolverines, tearing apart the defense with a spread offense that put up 39 points on a bewildered Michigan team.

In fact, the Ducks had won the previous two meetings between these schools coming into yesterday's match-up in the Big House. This time, the Wolverines pulled out a 27-14 victory behind a very potent offensive attack. The defense still had problems with the spread, as the Ducks managed to rack up 319 yards of offense.

There was only one score in the first quarter, as Michigan quarterback Steven Threet hit receiver Junior Hemingway for his first touchdown pass of the game to give Michigan a 7-0 lead.

The second quarter was all about the arm of Oregon quarterback Justin Roper. Roper showed off his arm accuracy and power as he tore up the Michigan defense in the quarter. Roper first tied the game with a 53 yard touchdown toss to receiver Jamere Holland, and later in the quarter he hit Jeff Maehl for a 60 yard touchdown pass to give the Ducks the momentum and a 14-10 lead heading into halftime.

The Wolverines would snap out of it and dominate the Ducks in the second half, as they outscored the Ducks 17-0 in the last thirty minutes of football. Steven Threet threw his second touchdown pass of the afternoon to LaTerryal Savoy for a short touchdown pass to help Michigan regain the lead. Brandon Minor would run for a score and Michael Motley hit a field goal in the final quarter to seal the deal.

Although Michigan running back Brandon Minor scored only one touchdown after running for three in the season opener, he made up for it in yardage. Minor carried the ball 26 times and averaged 6.8 yards per carry, gaining a career-high 177 yards on the ground. The Oregon run defense was very suspect throughout the game, as Carlos Brown gained 40 yards on just five carries in mop-up work in the fourth quarter.

With the two "easy" games out of the way, the competition now gets much tougher for the Wolverines. Next Saturday, the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame will invade the Big House, attempting to win this big rivalry game for the first time since 2005.

Wolverines Beat Irish in the Big House

                        ANN ARBOR, Michigan --
It was a beautiful day in southern Michigan yesterday, but the Michigan-Notre Dame game in the Big House was a very sloppy football game. There were seven interceptions thrown yesterday, three by Michigan quarterback Steven Threet and a career-high four by Notre Dame signal-caller Jimmy Clausen.

For the second straight season, the Wolverines defense held the Notre Dame offense without a touchdown, as the Fighting Irish's only touchdown of the afternoon was a 98 yard interception return by Gary Gray. The Wolverines were particularily stifling on defense against the Irish, as they held them under 200 yards of total offense.

Brandon Minor continues to have one of the best seasons for a running back in recent school history, and he turned in another workhorse-like performance yesterday. Minor carried the rock 26 times for 140 yards, but did not score a touchdown for the first time this season.

Michigan Quarterback Steven Threet struggled yesterday, as he completed just 40% of his passes, threw three interceptions, and managed to pass for just 115 yards. Threet did throw two touchdown passes in the game, one to play-making wide receiver Darryl Stonum, and one to tight end Jon Bills.

Its not often that a kicker steals the show on offense during a football game, but freshman kicker Michael Motley was probably the best weapon the Wolverines had against Notre Dame. Motley kicked four field goals in five attempts, including one from 41 yards away. So far this season, Motley has missed just two in ten attempts.

The Wolverines have a bye week this week as they prepare to open up Big Ten conference play in two weeks when they travel to Camp Randall to play the #5 Wisconsin Badgers. The Badgers beat the Wolverines last season by just seven points.

                        Players of the Game:
ND: CB Gary Gray: 4 Tkl, Tfl, Sck, 2 Int, TD
MICH: CB Zach Johnson: 8 Tkl, 2 Int
