            #8 Michigan     45   52-97

Wolverines pay price in thrashing of Buckeyes

Unsatisfied with their mediocre 9-7 performance in conference play this season, the Wolverines vowed to perform well in the Big Ten Tournament.

After one game, there was no problem there, but they paid a big price in doing so.

The Wolverines scored the first 18 points of the game against Ohio State en route to an easy 97-55 route, but they lost starting center Courtney Sims for 2 weeks with a strained abdomen. That means if he is to play again this season Michigan would have go deep into the NCAA Tournament, most likely the Elite Eight.

            Player of the Game

Dion Harris: 35 points, 3 steals

Daniel Horton: 17 points, 10 assists, 3 steals
Lester Abram: 14 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists
Brent Petway: 6 points, 5 rebounds

            Jamar Butler: 16 points
Terrence Dials: 2 points, 7 rebounds
            J.J. Sullinger: 9 points, 5 rebounds

Next Game: Big Ten Third Round: Penn State (8-20, 2-14) vs. #8 Michigan (24-7, 9-7)

                Dang, tough loss of Sims.

Atleast you have PSU next game.

Wolverines ride Horton into Big Ten Championship

After the big three of Horton, Harris, and Abram, Michigan's leading scorer was Chris Hunter, with 4 points.

                    What does that tell ya?

The deadly trio combined to score 71 of Michigan's 77 points in UM's 77-49 rout of pitiful Penn State in the Big Ten Semifinals. They were led in scoring by Harris' 26 points, but it was Horton that stole the show with a monstrous triple double with 23 points, 15 assists and 12 rebounds. Abram added 22 points and 9 rebounds.

Michigan now gets a shot at revenge, as they face the powerhouse Fighting Illini of Illinois at the United Center on Sunday in the Big Ten Championship Game.

Illini thrash Wolverines to win 2nd Big Ten Tourney in 3 years

Merely a few hours before the seedings for the NCAA Tournament were announced, the Michigan Wolverines had a huge opportunity to open some eyes on Selection Sunday with an upset of mighty Illinois in the Big Ten Championship.

Instead, the game turned into a showcase for the Illini, as they locked down one of the #1 seeds in the NCAAs with an impressive 85-51 thumping of the Wolverines.

Things were ugly from the opening tip as the Illini opened the game up 11-0 and 18-3. For the game they shot 52% from the field, and 26-30 from the FT line. The Wolverines shot only 30%, and 13-15 from the stripe. Illinois also dominated in rebounding and assists, winning the battle on the glass 34-20 and dishing out 20 dimes to Michigan's 11.

Michigan should still get a nice seeding in the Big Dance, but one has to wonder how their confidence is after such an embarassment in a big game.

                            My GOODNESS!

You got taken to the woodshed.
                            Blind to this impending fate
We let the world carry our weight
It's back breaks with every mile
But we all live in denial
