GAME RECAP
Coach Matt Miller is officially 7-0 vs FAU has he leads FIU to their 7th Shula Bowl victory.. This game was alot closer then the 20 point victory would make it look.
FIU opened up the scoring with their longest rushing touchdown of the season as Shawn Boyce breaks one for 18 yds to make it (7-0). FAU would get on the scoreboard picking off Derek Hawkins as Tucker Manhertz takes the INT back 16 yds for the "Pick 6" to make it (7-7).
Boyce though would run in his 2nd TD of the day with a 2 yd run to give the Panthers the (14-7) at the end of the 1st Quarter.
FAU opened up the 2nd Quarter scoring with a huge 76 yd bomb from JR QB T. Grymes (77) to FR WR Branden Kaufusi (73) to tie the game up (14-14) Another Hawkins INT would lead to a Warren Dahl 5 yd TD run as FAU took the lead (21-14) with 8 minutes to play in the half. FAU leaning on a run game that finally found itself ties the game up as Shawn Boyce scores his 3rd TD of the day with another short 2 yd run (21-21).
SO CB Cordale Ryder comes up with a huge INT of Grymes to setup a 11 yd touchdown from Hawkins to Dom Meeks as Meeks has now scored in 3 straight games to make it (28-21) with 1:11 to play in the half.
FIU assumed FAU would just run out the clock to end the half but the Owls go to the air and and quick 3 and out gives the Panthers the ball back with 28 seconds to play as FAU tacks on a 41 yd FG as time expires to make it (31-21) at the half.
FAU opened up the 2nd half with the ball but would turn the ball over on downs. RB Shawn Boyce however would fumble the ball on a run up the middle giving the Owls new life as FAU cuts the lead to (31-28) with a Shakir Edwards 1 yd run.
But with 24 seconds to play in the 3rd, Shawn Boyce would make up for his earlier fumble with his 4th TD of the day (2 yds) as FIU extends the lead back to 10 (38-28) as we had to the 4th.
FAU would turn the ball over 4 times on downs in the 4th Quater as they go 0/4 on 4th downs. The Panthers would convert 2 of those into points as FB Kwabena Strong scores his 1st TD of the season with a 1 yd run and then with 1:14 to play in the game Taj Dozier connects on a 42 yd FG after missing a 53 yd attempt early in the quarter.
FAU QB Tim Grymes finished the game 10/18 (55%) for 178 yds with the 1 TD and 1 INT. SR RB Warren Dahl had 26 carries for 87 yds and 1 TD in the loss as well.
For Shawn Boyce it was a coming out party as he gave Panthers glimpses of the past. Boyce was named POG and ACC Player of the Week as he rushes for a career high 197 yds with 4 TD.
