      GAME RECAP

They might call it Happy Valley but as a Buckeye fan there is nothing happy about it. Beaver Stadium ranks #1 in the nation as the hardest place to play and for a very good reason. With a Whiteout crowd of 100000+ your not just facing 11 guy's across the line of scrimmage..

Penn State dominated the 1st Quarter holding the ball for 8 minutes out of the 10 minute Quarter, as Ohio State only get 1 series on offense and it ended with a AJ Breida INT.

The Buckeyes would cut the lead to (14-7) early in the 2nd Quarter as Breida connects with SO Jabu Gayton on a 34 yd score, but when facing a 4th and 2 later in the quarter with a chance to tie the game, Coach Miller made the call to go for it but SR RB Mike Grubbs was tackled short of the endzone as the Nittany Lions take over on downs.

JR QB Edward Levrone then drove PSU 98 yds on a 11 play drive ending with his own 6 yd TD run to extend the lead to (21-7) with 3 minutes to play OSU would settle for a 39 yd FG by Monty Carty this time making it (21-10).. The OSU Defense then came up with a huge stop to get the ball back with 1:47 to play in the half but Breida's 2nd INT of the day kills the drive as the Buckeyes go into the half trailing.

Penn State opened up the 2nd half with the ball and quickly scored as SR RB Duane Traore takes it in from 25 yds out to extend the lead to (28-10). Another Breida INT would lead to a PSU FG to extend the lead again making it (31-10) going into the 4th Quarter.

Trailing by 3 scores, PSU needed a miracle. Breida already with 3 INT on the day would finally find a groove as he connects on a 17 yd strike to JR Gill Alexander to cut the lead to (31-17) then it was the OSU Defense coming up with a huge play as SR CB CJ Ballantyne picks off Levrone to set up another Bredia to Alexander score as OSU cut the lead to (31-24)..

Just when OSU fans started to believe the comeback could be possible, Levrone tried to take it away as he hits SR WR Moshood Obomanu (80) on a 29 yd score to extend the lead back to 2 scores (38-24).

Breida though wasn't giving up as he leads OSU on a 6 play drive capped off by a 13 yd TD run by Grubbs as the Buckeyes make it (38-31) with 3:48 to play.

Then it was the OSU Defense coming up with another huge stop as the force a quick 3 and out as PSU is forced to punt.

True Freshman Ezekiel Tandy has elite speed (99) and showed it with a 21 yd punt return taking the ball back to the 50 yd line.

Breida then went back to work connecting on a pair of 1st downs including a 15 yd pass to Tandy before hitting SR WR Kevin Kosier for a 19 yd to touchdown (38-37) with 1:11 to play For Kosier it was his 8th reception on the day after not posting a catch in the Buckeyes first 3 games.

Facing the decision to kick the PAT and go for the tie or try for the 2pt play and take the lead, Coach Miller made another tough call and this time it worked as Breida spreads the field with 5 WR's opening up a lane for him to keep it himself as he dives in for the 2pt play giving OSU the lead for the first time in the game (39-38).

Needing only a FG to win, Penn State was taking any risks and they ran their 2 minute offense to perfection setting up a 27 yd FG with 14 seconds left in the game to take the Lead (41-39)..

With Tandy and Gayton back to receive, PSU was smart and kicked it away from the speedy freshman. But Gayton did his best as he returns the ball 22 yds to the 30 yd line.

With back to back 4th quarter scores in the 4th Quarter in the last 2 weeks former QB Anfernee Johnson would do his best to be the hero once again.. Already with a 55 yd reception on the day, Johnson was Breida's target, but the PSU Defense was ready for it as FR FS Kevin Naannee comes over the top and picks off Breida as the JR QB throws his 4th and final INT of the day as the Nittany Lions survive the upset and win this rivalry matchup for a 3rd straight year.

Tough loss, but not the worst in terms of the standings/CFP

Brieda doing his best to get a coaster named after him. Tough to overcome 4 INTs in Happy Valley, but you nearly did it. Hopefully you can get the run game established against Notre Dame

I absolutely suck when it comes to stadiums where I can't see my routes and what button the receiver is pretty snap. 3 of those INats were me throwing to the wrong receiver. The last one was me just throwing it deep into double coverage hoping for a prayer. I played the Norte Dame last night but it was after 11 so I didn't stay up to post the recap. Let's just say I prefer home games

It's the crowd/home field advantage. Between this Dynasty and my Coach Scott I can honestly say probably 20-25 losses have been because I throw a crap.ton of picks when I can't see my routes and receiver buttons pre snap.. 3 of those INT'a where me throwing to the wrong receiver . The last one was a desperation throw into double coverage

                    GAME RECAP

If you want a chance to play for a National Title you got to pull off big wins and beat great teams, and that's what Ohio State did today.

Coming up short in their 2nd half comeback last week against Penn State, Ohio State made sure not to let it happen again.

The Irish Defense played a great 1st half stuffing the Buckeyes run game and getting to QB AJ Breida 4 times as Notre Dame build a (10-0) lead going into halftime.

But the Buckeyes started the 2nd half with the ball and Breida given time was to find JR WR Terron Pappoe on a 69 yd bomb to cut the lead to (10-7). Then it was the Buckeye Defense coming up with the 1st of 4 INT" in the half as SR CB CJ Bayllantyne picks off JR QB Nyles Witt (81).. The Irish Defense though come sup with a huge 3rd down stop forcing OSU to settle for a 20 yd FG as they tie the game (10-10).

For Witt it's a 2nd half he would like to soon forget as he throws INT #2 to OLB Julian Apple as the Buckeyes take over looking to take the lead.. The Notre Dame D however steps up again forcing as the stop Grubbs in the backfield to set up a 4th and goal from the 5.. Coach Miller would leave the offense on the field but Breida's pass to TE Ryan Pierre is dropped in the endzone as the Irish take over on downs.

Moving to the 4th with both teams still tied (10-10), Witt would throw INT #3 as SR FS Rodney Bean comes up with the pick and this time Bredia would make the Irish pay as he hits Pappoe for touchdown #2 as OSU takes a (17-10) lead.

For Witt his day was not done throwing to the guy's wearing red. as the JR fires INT #4, this time to SS Jay Kennan who runs it back 17 yds as the Buckeyes take over on the 50 with 4 minutes to play.. With the ground game still struggling, Breida put the team on his shoulders or maybe it was just his right arm but he fires a 35 yd touchdown to SO Jabu Gayton as OSU extends their lead to 2 scores with 3:12 to play.

After the touchback, Notre Dame would drive the ball down field to the 48 yd line before Witt would throw 2 incomplete pass's to set up a 3rd and 10 and then it was SR DT Malik Stewart coming up with a huge sack on Witt to setup 4th and 16. Witt's pass to FR WR Terrelle Boger is caught short of the sticks as OSU makes the tackle and takes over on downs.

Despite not running the ball well Johnson and Grubbs would manage to pick up a 1st down to run out the clock as Ohio State wins the 4th game of the season.FINAL SCORE OHIO STATE-24 NOTRE DAME 10

Witt finished the day 13/27 (48%) for 142 yds with 1 TD and 4 INT and was sacked twice.

The Irish ran for 121 yds on the day led by SO RB Gio Shaw (10 carries 60 yds), I am not sure why they gave up on the run that worked so well in the 1st half.

                    KEY BUCKS

QB AJ Breida-17/32 (53%) 259 yds 3 TD , sacked 4 times, but still managed to finish with 25 yds positive rushing.
                    RB M. Grubbs-17 carries 38 yds (2.2 avg). 1 rec 8 yds
                    RB/WR A. Johnson-3 carries 11 yds, 4 rec 43 yds
                    WR T. Pappoe-4 rec 99 yds 2 TD

                    WR G. Alexander-4 rec 30 yds
                    TE R. Pierre-2 rec 38 yds

                      GAME RECAP

After struggling with the White Crowd of Penn State in Week 4, Coach Miller was afraid about how his team might do against the Sea of Red but AJ Breida played solid, the run game found is grove returning and offering over 100 yds on the day and the Nebraska team shot it's self in the foot with 11 Penalties for 120 yds on the day.

Nebraska jumped out to a early (7-0) lead as SR QB Rishard Aviles hits SO WR Joey Robledo on a 36 scoring strike but that would be the Huskers only lead of the day.

Breida fires back with a 50 yd bomb to JR Gil Alexander to tie the game (7-7) and then after forcing a punt OSU takes the lead (10-7) with a 36 yd FG by Monty Carty.

OSU would extend their lead to (17-7) early in the 2nd Quarter as Breida hits Jabu Gayton for a 31 yd TD.

Nebraska would cut the lead to (17-14) as Aviles finds SR WR Nick Hare on a 29 yd scoring strike but OSU wasn't done as SR RB Mike Grubbs breaks a huge 40 yd touchdown run with 12 seconds to play in the half to extend the Buckeyes lead to (24-14)

Ohio State opened up the 2nd half with the ball and have to settle for a short 20 yd FG to make it (27-14), then after a huge stop by the Defense, it was SR RB Mike Grubbs with another huge run this time scoring from 28 yds out to make it (33-14).. Up by 19, Coach Miller leaves the offense on the field as Breida hits Pierre for the 2pt play to make it a full 3 score lead (35-14).

Still (35-14) as we head into the 4th, Nebraska would cut the lead to (35-21) as FR RB David Orlando caps a 9 play drive with a 1 yd touchdown run..

OSU would answer right back though with their own 10 play 80 yd drive ending with a 6 yd run by QB AJ Breida as the Buckeyes extend the lead to (42-21)..

Nebraska would turn the ball over on downs, and Coach Miller looking to take some time off the clock goes to the ground game as Grubbs breaks the century mark with 108 yds on the day and with 1:12 to play Anfernee Johnson adds a 16 yd touchdown run as OSU close out the road victory.FINAL SCORE OHIO STATE-41 NEBRASKA-21

Aviles finished the game 18/33 (54%) for 241 yds with 2 TD. He also led the team in rushing with 14 carries for 63 yds.

                      KEY BUCKS

                          BUCK TALK EPISODE #1

Welcome to "Buck Talk" a Ohio State Buckeye Podcast were we talk Buckeyes Football and today we are joined by Head Coach Matt Miller.. I am your host Tim May

Miller "Thanks for having me Tim"

May "Coach.. First let me give you congrats on your strong start to the season.. You got to be feeling pretty good about a (5-1) start and a #5 ranking especially taking over a team that went (6-6) last year winning only 4 games in the Big Ten."

Miller "Yeah for sure Tim. I don't want to speak ill of the former coaching staff. I know this team lost some solid Seniors last year but with the guy's we have here now, I just don't see how this team was only 6-6.. Talk about under achieving.."

May "Coach I have to ask. How hard was it leaving FIU especially now as you look over and see them undefeated (5-0) and sitting ranked #1 in the nation for a 3rd straight season'

Miller "Tim I knew I was leaving a team that could win a National Title. Honestly I feel like in 2028 with Logan in our lineup we would've had Natty #2 and then same thing last year has Boyce not gotten hurt I think I would've had #4. Honestly had that happened, I don't think I would be talking to you right now. Destiny has away of working things out.. I loved my time at FIU but at the same time I knew it was gong to be hard to leave and to be honest there are only so many jobs worth leaving for"

Tim "Coach yeah we heard you turned down Washington and USC after Natty #1.. Then you signed the extension with FIU and with the move to the ACC, it seemed liked schools didn't even pursue you. You did turn own your Alma Mater BSU, but we saw some major programs like Tennessee, Florida, Florida State, Texas A&M and Texas Tech all hire new coaches yet reports tell us you were not even interviewed."

Miller "Yeah I don't know, but again it's funny how the world works sometimes. All I know is I am loving it here in Columbus."

May "Yeah we have heard how impressed you are with Ohio Stadium. Playing in front of 100,000+ fans is a far cry from 30k at Boise State or 20k at FIU"

Miller "You are correct Tim. Playing on the Blue is something special and despite only having 30k at a game, Boise State fans are some of the best in the nation.. When I got to FIU, we were averaging under 16k a game. After Natty #1 we were sold out and to be honest Pitbull despite the size was a great home venue, but coming here and playing in front of his crowd is pretty special. Also not just here though either. Again nothing against the ACC, but the Big Ten offers some amazing venues to play football"

May "Coach I have to ask. You recruited both AJ Breida and Derek Hawkins to FIU.. Breida ends up here, Hawkins has a roller coast starter at FIU and transfers to V.T. after you brough in another 5* QB in Kevin Pounds. Pounds plays 3 games last year and now is the front runner for the Heisman.. Do you wish you would've just took him off his redshirt and played him through the playoffs.?"

Miller "To be honest May, I know Derek Hawkins gets a bad rap for all his INT's but the kid is a future NFL QB. There is a reason why Virginia Tech coming off a Natty with their QB returning handed him the job this season."

May "Maybe but they have lost 2 straight now and he isn't looking so good. Maybe the fans are right... Coach I have to ask. You have AJ Breida who is only a Junior but your current #2 Ryan Russo is a Senior and former starter Anfernee Johnson is also a SR and now playing RB/WR.. Reports are you were targeting Bobby Boon from Saint Louis Missouri. the #1 Overall Player in the 2032 Class and the #1 QB. but recently pulled his scholarship and are 100% in on going after Courtland Coffey (#5 Overall/#1 TX/#2 QB from Belton Texas."

Miller "Yeah Tim.. When I got to Ohio State, I sat down and had a meeting with the entire team and our staff. We had a very long discussion about NIL money and how we were going to spend the money we had. I have 1 rule here.. Nobody is above the team.. I don't care if you are a 5* Recruit rated #1 in your class or a 2* Recruit we are signing to give us depth and Develop. Every guy on our roster is getting the same exact amount whether you are the best player on our team or the 85th best player on our team. If you want more NIL money that's on you to go out and find it. We are offer a great assist in Brand Exposure but we are not going to buy recruits like other schools do. (Oregon, Michigan, Alabama, Texas, ect).. I am not going to give a QB recruit a million dollars just to play here. We went into the season with 4 QB's on our Big Board. We already signed 4* DeMarco Killings and honestly after spending time with both Boon and Coffey, I came away knowing I wanted Courtland as our next QB. Texas and TAMU are giving us a run for our money, but so far we have him lined up for a Week 11 visit. We are hoping we can get him here to Columbus to show him how special this place can be."

May "Coach if you don't mind can we talk a little more about recruiting. Reports are you just got your 3rd commitment this past week but also lost on a few guy's that were pretty high on your board too."

Miller "Yeah Tim.. We are support excited to announce our first 5* signing of the season.. Cameron McCraken (#10 Overall/#1 GA/#2 ATH) from Sneville GA.. Cameron is listed at 5''11 186lbs and played both RB/WR and CB this past season. With our current depth at RB, that is were we will first try him.. We got a couple other RB's on our radar but we really believe he can be something special. We lost out on 5* OLB Mitch Bausby (#14 Overall/#1 KS/#1 OLB) to Nebraska and we lost out on 4* CB
Paul Wayne (#81 Overall/#2 OH/#5 CB) to Norte Dame this week. But we got a great group of kids on our board still and we have alot of campus visits lined up for Week 8 vs Indiana, Week 10 vs Illinois and Week 13 vs Michigan as well as several in Week 11 when we are on our "Bye"

May "Coach looking at the schedule ahead you are picked to win every game including Michigan.. Do you think you guy's can run the table and finish 11-1?"

Miller "How about you wait and ask me that question in Week 11.. Honestly I like our chances over the next 4 games. I feel like we should win at least 3 of 4 and Wisconsin on the road in Week 12 will be tough and anytime you play Michigan you can throw out the records.. They will bring it 100% and so will we.. The fact it's Senior Day for us and the fact we have 22 Seniors, I like our chances.. So that's 4 more wins which takes us to 9 and if I got to be honest I like our chances of pulling out a win in 1 of those 2 other games. So 11-1?? That could be tough but I feel like 10-2 is possible and if that gets us in the Big Ten Championship game great. If not I think it at least puts us in the playoff discussion and that's our goal?

May "Well Coach we are out of time, but I would love to have you back in Week 11 so we can talk some more Buckeye Football"

                          Miller "I would love it..

Love the write up Deuce. Nice look into the recruiting portal and changing the culture at Ohio State. Lest we forget, they've had more than a few scandals over the years, but not with coach Miller on board

                              PAW'S UP PODCAST EPISODE #3

Welcome to "Paws UP" a FIU Panther Football Podcast for this year's first Episode and Episode #3. Last year we had Coach Matt Miller on the show and today we are excited to bring on OC Clayton Dees, I am your host Jake Gibson..

JG- Clayton it is great to have you.. I have to ask. How crazy is it to be 25 years old and already back at your Alma Mater as the OC in just your 2nd year coaching?

CD- Jake it feels unreal.. When Coach Miller brough me on staff to work with the QB's last year it was a dream come true and honestly when he left, I sorta assumed I would go with him, but then when FIU hired Coach Valdez and he asked me not only to stay but offered me the OC job, I knew I couldn't pass it up. I talked to Coach Miller about it and even he agreed."

JG-There are alot of rumors being spread around that Coach Valdez offered the job to you in hopes that you would be able to convince alot of the team to stay and not join the portal. Same thing with Coach Phenix as the DC.. What's your take?

CD-I mean it's pretty smart.. We lost alot of guy's still but I think I have a pretty good relationship with K.P. (Kevin Pounds) and I know we didn't lose a single starter on Defense with Coach Phenix staying so if it's true, it's a smart move.. We are 5-0 and #1 in the country., So I would say the 305 Collective did it's job too in landing a a HC like Coach Valdez.. It's not very often that a school like FIU can lure away a HC who just coached in the National Championship to replace a HC who lead your school to 4 straight Semi Finals and 2 National Championship wins as well.

JG- Coach.. You brought it up. You guy's are 5-0 and KP is currently leading the Heisman race.. Do you think Coach Miller should've turned to KP sooner last season or what's your take on Derek Hawkins.

CD-Well I can say I am a pretty good expert at being a Redemption story. I personally loved Hawk.. I think he got a bad rap here and I hope he does well at V.T. until he plays us again. But yeah it's hard to second guess Coach Miller. He led this program to some pretty historic seasons"

JG- Coach, I got to ask you guy's have 21 Seniors including 13 on Defense.. How is recruiting looking this season.. Coach Miller well at FIU brought in some pretty solid class's with several Top-25 a Top-5 and basically built a Top-10 class before he left that ended up #7.. Do you have Coach Valdez have a similar hope and approach?

CD- Yeah actually when Coach Valdez got here we talked alot about the makeup of our team and how Coach Miller really went after instate kids. We have 76 players on our roster and 49 of them are from Florida. This year we have 32 player currently on our big board and 22 of the are from Florida.

JG-Coach reports are 5* WR Gene Cummins (#7 Overall/2 FL/#2 WR) turned down offers from both you guy's and Miami and signed with Alabama this week. How high was he on your board.?

CD-We had Cummins #3.. He wasn't even our #1 WR though. We still have 5* Marvin Blount (#2 Overall/#1 FL/#1 WR) from Bella Glade FL #1 and we are currently #1 on his Top-5 board. He has offers from Illinois, Nebraska, TAMU and Alabama but we currently have him scheduled to be here in Week 13 when we take on Miami and it's our hope that he will wait at least until then to make up his mind.

JG-Coach You guy's are #1 and (5-0). You got (1-4) Rutgers on the road in Week 7. Then play a (4-1) ECU squad on the road before coming home to host a Syracuse squad that is currently (4-2) After that you got NC State at home, Duke and Wake Forest on the road before taking on Miami in Week 13 on Senior Day.. What's your honest take on the remaining schedule.

CD-I like our chances in our next 5.. Wake has won some big games this year but I think we got lucky with the schedule again not playing V.T, Virginia or UNC this year.. I think we can run the table at least until the Miami game.. If we do the same and it's us at #1 vs them at #2 that's going to be pretty dang crazy..

JG-Yeah I have to admit it's pretty crazy right now to see 4 ACC's teams in the Top-10 and 3 of them ranked #1/#2/#3.. Last year 3 teams made the playoffs.. Do you think the ACC could pull off 4?

JD-Honestly the way the schedule is layed out. I could totally see UNC running the table and finishing 11-1. and if Virginia can beat Virginia Tech in Week 13 they could be 11-1 as well and Miami and us both run the table until our Week 13 matchup 1 of us would be 12-0 and the other 11-1 as well.. So yeah I think all 4 of us could make the playoffs..

JG-Well Coach we are out of time but again congrats on the season and we would love to get you or Coach Valdez back on the show soon..

                              CD-For sure.. Anytime...

Thanks. Miller has shown he knows how to build a program.. I unlocked CEO and Program Builder and spent the 18 points to get the Chance at Instant commits when offering players who have OSU as their #1 school.

So with that said my main focus this year is kids with OSU #1, Kids from Ohio #2 and kids who have OSU in their Top-5.. Also with 35 scholarships available I really wanted to focus on alot of 4* guy's I could hopefully sign without having to get into a bunch of recruiting battles over so I could focus more points on the few 5* guy's I really wanted.

I still got (5) 5* guy's on my board and I am leading on all of them.. I also am leading on (15) 4* guy's and I am Top-3 on like 10 more, so I am hoping once I get some of them on campus visits I can start locking them up.

Ohio isn't the recruiting hotbed like Florida, Texas or even California, but we got some solid recruits this year with 5 players rated in the Top-120 and another 7 in the Top-300 and 9 more in the Top-500, so that's 21 players in the Top-500 which I feel is pretty good. I am going after 9 of them.
