    FIU WEEK 7 TEAM REPORT

PANTHERS MAKE IT 7 IN A ROW

West Virginia entered the game on a 3 game winning streak and a (4-1) record but they played like the team that has won just 3 games the previous 2 seasons combined..

FIU dominated the Mountaineers from kickoff taking a (22-0) led in the half and would add to that lead with 3 more scores in the 4th Quarter walking away with a (43-0) shutout..

Despite the score, it wasn't Kevin Pounds best performance of the season... The Redshirt Sophomore completed just 16/30 (53%) for 212 yds well throwing 4 TD's and 2 INT's.

The MVP of the game was JR WR Emari Boenzi who was on the receiving end of all 4 of those scores as he hauls in 5 receptions for 114 yds in the process.

With the 4 scores, Boenzi now had 10 on the season to go with his team high 49 rec for 827 yds..

Scoring 43 points is something FIU is use to as they are currently #2 in the nation at 42.7 PPG (Ohio State is #1 at 49.2) but this the Defense throwing a shutout was something new.

FIU held SR QB Caleb Heeney to just 132 yds through the air picking him off twice both times by converted WR turned SS Tyreke Harmon as he shows he still has solid hands. Harmon also showed off his running skills taking one of the INT's back for a "Pick 6". Heeney struggled all day as he was sacked 7 times including 2 by OLB Dillion Brown.

    UP NEXT

FIU will have next week off for their 2nd "Bye" Week of the season before returning to action in Week 8 as they host ECU..

    QUEST FOR PERFECTION

With 4 of their final 5 games at home inside Pitbull Stadium and FIU is currently a favorite to win their remaining games and go 12-0 this season.

    ACC STANDINGS

With West Virginia's loss, we now have a log jam for #2 in the ACC. #3 Miami is still the favorite to get a chance at revenge against the Panthers but NC State has also won 4 in a row and is currently 5-2 Overall and 4-1 in ACC play as well with their only loss coming to FIU in Week 1.

    RECRUITING UPATE

The Panthers landed their 3 commitment of the season this week as 4* WR James Sills (#87 Overall/#15 FL/#11 WR) gives his Verbal. Stills listed at 6'1 194lbs from Tampa FL had offers from Florida, Florida State and UCF..

FIU however got some not so good news this week as well as 2 of their Top-6 Recruits on their Top-25 board signed elsewhere.

5* DT Curtis Dalton (#6 Overall/#1 FL/#1 DT) has give his verbal to Miami.. Listed at 6'3 316lbs from Oviedo FL, Dalton was Florida's "Gatorade POY".. He had scholarship offers from Clemson and Georgia as well and was scheduled to take a Week 8 visit to FIU.

FIU lost out on another high profile instate kid as 5* DT Taylor Caver (#17 Overall/#4 FL/#1 DE) has signed with TAMU.. Listed at 6'6 273lbs Caver was heavily recruited by Florida, and Miami as well

      TALKING BUCKS WITH COACH MILLER

Welcome to "The Ohio" Podcast.. I am your host Chris Wilds and tonight we are joined by HC Matt Miller...

CW-Coach your half way through the season. You guy's are currently in the same boat as last year at (5-1). You currently #4 in the rankings dropping 1 spot with the "Bye" Week.. How do you feel about your season so far?

MM-Chris I feel good. Last year when I got here I didn't make any promises I didn't think we could keep. I pretty much said I thought we could win 10 games and give ourselves a shot at a Big Ten Title and a spot in the playoffs.. We accomplished all of those goals and in the process we caught fire and won a National Championship. With a new QB and a new RB, I knew our offense would need to find guy's to step up and so far we they have done that.

CW- Speaking of QB's and RB's.. Let's stop and talk about them for a minutes.. Let's first take QB's.. Coach in the first 2 games of the season, we saw both Redziniak and Ledford share QB duties with each playing a half, then we saw Redziniak start and play the entire game against Nebraska on the road, but then we saw Ledford start back to back games at home vs Stanford and Notre Dame only to be replaced by Redziniak again Week 6's win over Michigan State on the road. Is there a strategy involved? Is Red's your road guy and Ledford is your home guy and if so does that mean we will see Ledford back starting next week against Penn State?

MM-To be honest Chris, we don't have a strategy.. Every week we have a closed practice and both guy's get reps with the #1 Offense against our #1 Defense and we as a staff make the call.. So far I would say it's worked out pretty good.

      Redziniak-58% for 1118 yds with 8 TD/2 INT
      Ledford-64% for 1005 yds with 7 TD/2 INT

Combined those 2 #'s and you got yourself a pretty dang good QB. I don't know who will start. We could go back to Week 1/2 when we played both.. We will pick a starter and if said starter is playing well then we will probably just stick with him.

CW- Sounds good coach.. Well let's move on to RB's.. There was alot of questions on who might replace Grubbs and Johnson as the #1/#2 combo but so far we have seen great production from 3 guy's this season.. You guy's currently lead the nation in rushing with 1150 yds (FIU has 1126) and have a nation leading 22 TD's.

JR Dave Jones-94 carries 700 yds 7 TD
RS FR Fredrick Tam-40 carries 212 yds 10 TD
FR Cameron McCracken-29 carries 152 yds 2 TD

MM- Yeah Chris to be honest, I don't even think I knew just how good Jones and Tam were going to be.. Both have found their roles as a pretty dynamic 1/2 combo and Cameron has done a great job of stepping up when needed. if anything moving forward I would love to see him get a few more carries.

CW-Coach let's just keep moving through the Offense.. In year's past the TE position has played a pretty big role in your offense well at FIU and even last year here with Ryan Pierre.. However this season the TE group has just 1 catch (Caesar Bourgeois 14 yds). RB hasn't been much help either as Jones and McCracken have combined for just 13 receptions. So far it seems to be a 4 man show in the WR room.

      SR G. Alexander-26 rec 614 yds 6 TD
      JR J. Gayton-41 rec 609 yds 3 TD
      SR T. Pappoe-28 rec 305 yds 3 TD
      FR N. Tull-23 rec 422 yds 2 TD.

MM-Yeah to be honest Chris until you brought it up I didn't realize Caesar only had 1 catch. I am also shocked that Kaleb Poole and Gabe Harper don't have a catch either..

CW-Coach.. I want to pause for a minute talk about Recruiting because we learned this week you landed 2 pretty impact type recruits after landing 5* QB Nick De La Rosa a couple weeks ago. We are being told 2 more 5*?

MM-Yep Chris you heard correct.. It's funny cause Nick was one of the first people I called.. I think he and all of Buckeye nation are going to be pretty happy for the next 4 years.

5* WR Orlando Riggs (#11 Overall/#1 GA/#1 WR) and 5* WR Khalid Ahlers (#23 Overall/#2 LA/#3 WR).. It's pretty nice when you can land a 1/2 combo like those guy's..

CW-Coach you have been know to redshirt 5* WR's in the past.. You did it at FIU with Emari Boenzi who has turned into one of the best WR's in the country and probably this year's Heisman winner and you also did it with Devin Kennedy and Edward Marshall before leaving to come here.. What's the chances we see either or both of those guy's next season?

MM-Well Chris we have 2 of our Top-4 WR's graduating in Alexander and Pappoe, but we also have a solid trio of guy's currently redshirting plus Ezekiel Tandy who could potentially be the fastest WR in all of College Football currently healing from a injury. I would say like QB. Having to much talent is never a bad thing and I am sure things will work it out.

CW-Coach you made a change at DC last year and hired Coach Sneed away from Western Michigan.. How do you feel about this year's Defense?

MM-Much improved.. Last year we had one of the worst Defenses in the Big Ten. This year we are currently ranked #5 in the Big Ten.. Our Run Defense currently is #2 in the Conference and #10 in the nation (giving up just 433 yds).. I would love to see us still get beter.. We still are struggling with our pass rush, we still give up a few to many big plays and right now we are not creating the # of turnovers I would like to see but we are also dealing with some injuries too.

CW-Coach last year you were pretty active in the transfer Portal signing 7 players including MLB Warren Tryon.. He currently leads the team in Tackles with 36.. Do you plan on saving some scholarships for the Portal again this year and if so what positions do you hope to target.

MM-Of course we do..We pride ourselves on being a school in which other kids want to come play for and have a shot at a National Title.. I think OSU also is known for helping produce NFL talent.. I would say right now if this team has a weakness in regards to Depth it's on our D-Line.. There is a reason why we have 6 current offers out on D-lineman.

CW- Coach one last question.. You are in Year 2 of a unique 5 year contract.. Your contract was for 10 million per season with a 10 million dollar buyout for the first 2 years but the contract states that half of that buyout would have to come from you personally. After year 3, the buyout can be paid 100% in full by the school trying to hire you. Does that sway your decision to accept a new job and would you even consider it with the current roster you hare putting into place.

MM-For sure Chris. You know I wasn't the highest paid Coach in the ACC well at FIU.. Don't get me wrong the Panthers gave me a nice salary but I don't have 5 million just sitting around to payout to OSU if I wanted to leave and most schools are not going to pay me enough over 10 million to really make up the difference.. Also I think anytime a coach signs a generational QB like Nick, it's pretty hard to walk away.. I did do it with Kevin Pounds though, so I won't say it's a 100% thing that signing Nick means I not only finish my contract but also look for a extension, but at the same time Chris I can pretty much only name 3 or 4 schools that could even match what Ohio State has to offer me as a Coach and our players as well. There is a reason why this program is valued over a Billion dollars.

CW-Thank for joining us Coach and good luck with PSU this this week.

        GAME RECAP

Penn State came into the game with a (2-3) record this season.. But OSU wasn't looking past that record. The Buckeye locker room had saw the whiteboard material all week.. 2032 Penn State 42 Ohio State 39.. The also saw the scores from 2031 and 2030.. The Nittany Lions were riding a 3 year winning streak..

Ohio State also knew that the sidelines were packed with 5 more potential 5* Recruits. A loss here would destroy this year's class.. A win could make it one of the best of All-times.

Ohio State jumped out to a early (10-0) lead in the 1st Quarter.. Penn State would make it (10-7) early in the 2nd Quarter, but with 2:19 to play in the half Redziniak finds Terron Pappoe on a 1 yd score to make give OSU the (20-7) lead.

The OSU Defense then came up with a huge stop forcing the Nittany Lions to punt but Redziniak would throw a INT trying to put the dagger in the heart of the Lions.. PSU wasted no time putting the ball in the endzone as SR QB Edward Levrone (96) hits SR WR Nick Hope on a 42 yd score to make it (20-14)..

Doubling down on his earlier mistake, Redziniak again would try and make a big play with under a minute to play in the half and again it backfired as PSU picks off the Redshirt Sophomore for a 2nd time again leading to a Penn State touchdown as the Lions take the (21-20) lead into the locker room.

For Redziniak the back to back INT's could be a career killer at least at OSU as West Virgnia transfer David Ledford leads the offense onto the field for the 2nd half.

Ledford would lead PSU on a 9 play drive ending with a 12 yd scoring strike to Pappoe to make it (26-21).. Looking to make it a 7 point game, Coach Miller left the offense on the field but the Buckeyes fail to convert leaving them up by 5.

The Ohio State Defense comes up with a huge play as Frank Pounds picks off Levrone to get the Buckeyes the ball back with a chance to extend their lead but for a now it was Ledford's turn to throw a INT as JR CB Chad Minnis (81) grabs the intended pass for Alexander and returns it 74 yds to the house for the "Pick 6" to give PSU the (27-26) lead. Now it was the PSU offense staying on the field trying to make it a 3 point game, but Buckeye D comes up with a huge stop once again.

Ledford looking for some redemption would hit Gill Alexander on a 12 yd out pattern and the SR WR would do the rest as he turns and spins and takes it 60 more yards to the house for the 72 yd touchdown as Ohio State retakes the lead (32-27). Again leading by 5, Coach Miller would leave the offense on the field trying to make it a 1 score lead but again OSU fails to convert.

Still (32-27) entering the 4th.. The Ohio State Defense comes up huge as SO CB Nick Costanzo picks off Levrone to help set up a Ohio State 1st and goal.. After Dave Jones takes the ball down to the 1 yd line, OSU would turn to Fredrick Tam for the short yardage score, but the Nittany Lions had the plays read to perfection as they stop him on try and #1 and drop him for a 1 yd loss on try #2. With the Defense keying on the RB, Coach Miller called for a FB dive and RS FR Tavares Copper would deliver punching in his 2nd rushing touchdown on the day to give Ohio State the (39-27) lead after the PAT.

Penn State wasn't going away quietly though as RS FR RB Dom Bakhtiari breaks free for a 42 yd touchdown run with just under 4 minutes to play to make it (39-34).

PSU would then force a punt with 2:48 to play getting the ball back with a chance to win the game but when facing a 4th and 3 with 1:09 on the clock PSU makes a puzzling decision to punt the ball deep in their own territory vs trying for it. (Oddest call by the the CPU to date).

Ohio State would run out the clock for the win.

Levrone finished the game 18/26 (69%) for 198 yds with 2 TD and 2 INT.
Bakhtiari finished with 10 carries for 84 yds with 2 TD

        KEY BUCKS

        QB D. Ledford-11/16 (68%) 236 yds 2 TD 1 INT
        QB V. Redziniak-8/17 (47%) 146 yds 1 TD 2 INT

        RB D. Jones-23 carries 87 yds
        RB F. Tam-12 carries 76 yds
        RB C. McCracken-3 carries 19 yds
        FB T. Cooper-2 carries 5 yds 2 TD

        WR G. Alexander-6 rec 155 yds 1 TD
        WR T. Pappoe-8 rec 126 yds 2 TD
        WR J Gayton-3 rec 57 yds
        WR N. Tull-2 rec 44 yds

        UP NEXT

With the win Ohio State moves to (6-1) Overall and climbs 1 spot in the rankings to #3 as FIU drops 2 spots well on their "Bye" Week".

The Buckeyes will travel to Minnesota for a Week 9 matchup with the (3-4) Gophers.

Minnesota is coming off a (24-21) loss to USC at hom in Week 8 after winning back to back games over Syracuse (20-17) and Cincinnati (35-33).

Ugh I hate those mini surges the CPU gets at the end of halves/games. Would say I'm surprise that Penn State kept up with you, but after the Notre Dame loss I think its safe to say anyone in the Big Ten could give you a game, which is nice. That was one thing I hated about being in the MAC with Ball State, any conference game felt like an automatic win.

Looks like the early betting favorite should be FIU vs OSU part deux

Re: The Making of a Legend Part II "It's Miller Time".. CFB25

Ohio State has long been one of the best recruiting programs in college football. From 2001- 2010, Jim Tressel did a great job of landing top prospects in Ohio and in the Midwest, while also poaching some of the best around the country and finding under-valued prospects that could be developed into stars. When Urban Meyer took over the Buckeye program in 2012, he continued to focus on Ohio, but made the Scarlet and Gray a true national power in recruiting. Ryan Day, who was named head coach ahead of the 2019 season, has followed in Meyer's footsteps.

Because of this recruiting success, Ohio State is one of the most consistent football programs this century. The Buckeyes continue to bring in top talent year after year which, along with the coaching and development, has led to wins, Big Ten titles and national championship games.

Matt Miller has quickly earned himself the title of being one of the best recruiters in the nation. After spending 4 years on staff at Boise State as well as a couple years with Montana State, Miller got his chance to be a Head Coach and quickly turned Florida International into not just a CUSA Powerhouse but a National Powerhouse winning 2 National Titles in the process. Miller in just 9 seasons as a Head Coach has already secured 5 Top-25 class's as well a a Top and the #1 Overall..

            Former FIU Panther Tavon Logan
"I think what makes Coach Miller so successful is he is just a guy you believe what he says.. He doesn't try and fill you full of fluff.. He is a straight shooter and he is just the kind of guy that you makes you want to run through a brick wall for him.. He was that type of player and now he is that type of Coach"
            Current 5* Curtis McCracken
"What drew me to Ohio State and to Coach Miller is he preaches Team unity.. I had multiple schools trying to offer me more NIL money.. Coach Miller straight up told me. Everyone at Ohio State makes the same money in terms of the schools agreement. It doesn't matter if you are a True Freshman or a 5th year Senior, a starter or a reserve the guy, a Team Captain or the 85th guy on the roster. OSU has the largest NIL budget in the nation but we all get a equal share.. Coach then encourages us to pursue our own deals outside the school. Obviously it's not hard to find outsides companies that want to partner with Ohio State our National Brand is among the nation's best"
When it comes OSU and where they rank.. The Buckeyes are Top-5 in Championship Contender (A+) They are Top 5 in Program Tradition (A+), Columbus ranks in the Top-10 in Campus Lifestyle (A), Ohio Statdium "The Shoe" is also Top-5 in the nation (A+) Ohio State ranks Top-5 among schools with the most players playing on NFL rosters (A) National Brand is #1 (A+) Academic Prestige is Top-25 (A-) The Big Ten ranks #2 among Conference Prestige (A+) (SEC is still #1) Coach Miller ranks Top-10 among Coach Prestiage (A), OSU's Football Facilities are Top-5 in the country (A+).. Right now the only knock or negative against the Buckeye Program is Coach Miller's current coaching contract (Year 2) as well as OC Nate Phoenix (2nd year) and DC Cornell Sheed (1st Year) as Coach Stability is rated a C- (Ranked #99, LSU is #100, FIU is #95).

However after the phone call that Coach Miller got this week. I can tell you he isn't going anywhere for the next 4 years..

The win over Penn State could go down as the biggest win this season as Miller secures 6 more commitments giving Miller what could be the Best recruiting class to ever step foot on campus.

The 2017 Class is considered to be Ohio State Best Class in school history despite the fact it wasn't even ranked #1 in the nation that year (It finished #2)..

Defensive end Chase Young, the seventh-best player in the country, was the Buckeyes' No. 1 commit in 2017. He was followed closely by two five-star cornerbacks in Jeff Okudah and Shaun Wade, as well as the nation's top linebacker in Baron Browning. Offensive linemen Wyatt Davis and Josh Myers and running back J.K. Dobbins are also in the top 10 in this class.

The depth pieces proved to be good as well. Four-star defensive tackle Haskell Garrett showed how good he was in 2020. Cornerback Kendall Sheffield had a solid Scarlet and Gray career and Marcus Williamson became a starter for Ohio State as well.

But 2033 is on a completely different level..

With 5* QB Nick De La Rosa (#10 Overall/#2 QB) and a pair of 5* WR's Orlando Riggs (#11 Overall/#1 WR) and Khalid Ahlers (#23 Overall/3 WR), Miller brings his 5* Total to school record (9)

5* ATH/RB Lee Dubois (#2 Overall/#1 RB) is being touted as the next Tavon Logan well fellow 5* ATH/RB Viliami Te'o (#22 Overall/#4 RB) could have a Titus Tompkins type career as well.

            Miller
"Ohio State has had a pretty good history of RB's play for this University.. Archie Griffin a 2-time Heisman winner, Hopalong Cassidy and Eddie George 1 time Heisman winners, Ezekiel Elliot it's hard to pick the greatest..And that's just the Top-4." I think both these guy's have the talent to put their names among the Top-10 and who knows yes maybe even take push one of these guy's for #1"
If landing these 4 didn't make De La Rosa the happiest kid on earth then the next 3 signings will for sure.. The Offense doesn't stop there, as Miller also lands 3 of the Best O-linman in the country.

5* LT Taylor Ring (#5 Overall/#1 LT), 5* RT Jay Abbott (#16 Overall/#1 RT) and 5* ATH/C Jamal Cruise (#14 Overall/#1 C) automatcially make OSU 0-Line one of the best in the nation overnight and as OSU already has 2-5* Recruits from last year's #1 class redshirting.

Ohio State's last signing was as highly touted but honestly it probably fills the Buckeyes biggest need. 5* Alex Malveaux (#24 Overall/#2 NC/#2 DE) had 2 narrowed his choices down to 2 teams.. Millers current team or his former team.. At the end of the day he choice the Buckeyes.. Now the question remains.. Will his biggest rival join him or pick the school he didn't

With 9-5* Recruits signed Coach Miller only has 1 left on his Top-25 board and it just so happens to be the guy who has been #1 all year and for good reason.

Tyler Bail is the #1 Overall Recruit in the class.. A 5* Athlete who plays both sides of the ball was named North Carolina's Gatorade POY beating out Malveaux not just for the title but a State title as well. Listed at 6'6 260lbs, Bail could be the TE the Buckeyes are currently missing from their offense or he could join Malveaux on the D-Line where OSU is struggling to produce a pass rush and keep players healthy.

That was one thing I hated about being in the MAC with Ball State, any conference game felt like an automatic win.

Looks like the early betting favorite should be FIU vs OSU part deux
What has been weird for me this year is both Notre Dame and Penn State where home games.. I knew Nebraska would be tough on the road. and I sorta assume that Wisconsin will as well.. Notre Dame did a great job stopping the run.. I probably should've tried forcing a few more Deep balls to try and force their LB's to play black. Penn State on the other hand basically was like screw the run we are going to just sit back and try not to let them beat us deep. I got lucky that Alexander turned a 12 yd pass into a 72 yd score. but other then that, I think my biggest play was under 40 yds on the day.

It will be interesting to see how the playoff bracket plays out.. I will be curious to see if they end up on opposite sides or not or if we might see a rematch in the Semi Finals instead.

Right now it looks like it will be a FIU/Miami rematch for the ACC title.. FIU dropped to #4 with the "Bye" Week and currently both Virginia and Georgia Tech have dropped out of the Top-25 so at this point unless Georgia or Ohio State loses, we could see a #2 vs #4 matchup and if FIU is still #4 and loses, they could be playing Round 1. Right now it looks like it's probably going to be either Oregon or Washington in the Big Ten title game for Ohio State. Wire is gone and graduated, so party of me hopes I play the Ducks again for the title, especially cause it could be their 3rd loss and keep them out of the playoffs all together but we will see. Right now we are all 4-1 in Conference play..

Man, Deuce. Great job on the recruits. You pretty much have offense locked down for the next 4 to 5 years, depending on if you redshirt or not. Guess with what you have signed so far will allow you to focus on defense in the portal or next season. I ha e always tried doing that with my recruiting. Focus on 1 side each season. uckeyes are looking good, man. People are going to regret visiting the horse shoe for years to come now.

Thanks. Yeah offense looks really good.. I have my entire RB returning next year so Dubois and Te'o will most likely Redshirt. I also only have 2 starting 0-Lineman graduating so right now all 3 of those guy's will likely get a Redshirt season.. I have 2 5* Tackles I redshirted last year so I can't imagine the new guy's will be rated higher.. Typically my rule of thumb is unless the guy is the highest rated at a position or unless I just don't have the depth and they are going to be a key backup I try and redshirt them to get max boost in their Overalls by the end of the career. I could see one of the 2 WR's potentially making the Top-5 WR spots and well in public I might say there will be a open QB competition, I am like 99% sure the job will go to De La Rosa.. I will probably encourage Redziniak to transfer as well as 1 or 2 of the current 4* guy's potentially that are redshirting. That would give me Ledford as my #2 and a Senior, Sampson as my #3 who would be a RS JR and then whatever 4* Guy I keep as my #4.. I could then bring in a QB in next year's class to take Ledford's spot on the roster and he could redshirt well Sampson steps into the #2 role.. That's typically how I like to try and keep the QB room. 4 to 5 guys with the redshirting guy typically replacing one of the Top-3 after graduation and then the next guy up.

As far as the rest of this class. I still have 16 guys on my Top-25 Board unsigned.. 5* Tyler Bail is the only guy who could end up on the Offensive side of the ball.. The other 15 guy's are all Defense.. I actually didn't realize I still have 1 more 5* guy in DT Clay Hamm the #12 Overall and #2 DT. He is from South Carolina so I am battling Clemson as well as Tennessee but I am leading and he still has a Week 12 visit scheduled with me. I got (3) 4* DT's and a 3* on the list as well. I might pull 1 or 2 of the scholarships if the other guy's sign. I typically like to keep around 4 DT's on my roster sometimes 5 if I plan on redshirting a guy.

So this class still has a chance to fill alot of my Defensive needs as well. My current CB room has 2 JR's and 3 Sophomores, so that is a position I would like to try and find 1 or 2 guy's in the Portal and a spot I would hit hard next year. I also need to land a few more DE's.. Typically I try and keep 6 guy's on my roster. 4 active and 2 redshirting. Right now I only have 4 and 1 of them just hit the IR for the next 21 weeks. I forgot to update my Injury report but guy's are dropping like fly's.

                      BUCKS DROPPING LIKE FLY'S

*I forgot to update my injury report after the Penn State game, but Injuries are hitting the Buckeyes hard.. If anyone has ever dreamed about playing college football, now is your chance. Coach Miller is probably going to need to hold open tryouts.. With only 75 players on this year's roster the depth was already weak in certain spots.

JR DE John Quintero (82) is out for the next 21 weeks with a Fractured Shoulder Blade.. OSU already only had 4 DE's active as it was and now we are down to 3. OLB/DE SO Raakwon Selvia (75) was 3rd on the depth chart but he is still out for another 9 weeks (season) with a Compound Foot Fracture and SO DT Ethan Saharra (81) is joining them as he is out 7 weeks with a Hamstring Tear.

The D-Line continues to get hit hard as True Freshman Cole Small (75) also hits the IR for the next 7 weeks with a Dislocated Hip. With both Saharra and Small out, Ohio State only has 1 active DT on the roster (SR R. Stromberg) leaving backup DE True Freshman Cortez Sumner currently as the backup DE and the #2 DT on the roster.

Word on the street is several of the Buckeyes O-Lineman are currently practicing and will most likely be forced into service. (They are all like 35 Overall)

Starting MLB SR Warren Tyron (86) hits the IR this week with a Hamstring Tear that will keep him out for the next 6 weeks.. There is hope he will return at least for the Big Ten Championship and playoff run.. The Marshall Transfer was leading the Buckeyes in tackles with 37.

For now RS SO Jose Giguere (82) will step into the starting role with RS FR Stan Hoffman (76) stepping in as the backup MLB and OLB #3. If another injury hits the LB room, Coach Miller will likely be forced to pull the redshirt off 5* Recruit Eric Clemons.. Reports are Clemons will most likely see the field for at the last 4 games of the season anyways..

True Freshman and Starting SS Greg Robinson (80) is out for the next 11 weeks with a Dislocated Hip meaning he will most likely not return this season unless its for a deep run in the playoffs.

Robinson a 5* Recruit was named one of the Team Captains this spring and had recorded 23 Tackles so far this season..

With his backup SO Paul Barnhardt (80) already on the IR and out for the next 7 weeks with a Dislocated Hip, OSU is down to 1 active SS.. RS FR Paul Schofield (77) is now the starter, with backup FS Ronnie Darliek (78) they key backup at both safety spots.

                          GAME RECAP

David Ledford got the start under center starting his first road game of the season and quickly threw a INT to open the game, but the Ohio State Buckeye Defense picks him up getting a INT of their own as they pick off SR QB Taylor Brightwell (81) to get the ball right back.

Ledford would settle down and end up with 3 Touchdown pass's in the 1st half including a 24 yd TD pass to TE Ceaser Bourgeois (his first of the year) and a 5 yd score to Buffalo transfer James Cantwell (also his first) to give Ohio State a (31-7) lead going into the half.

The Buckeye Defense stepped up in the 2nd half picking off Brightwell 3 more times including a 58 yd "Pick 6" INT return for a score by OLB Rick Hendricks with 6:58 to play in the 4th.. With the commanding (45-7) lead Coach Miller would pull the Offensive starters but instead of Vince Redziniak taking over at QB, Buckeye fans got their second look at RS FR Melo Sampson. Sampson looked good completing his first 2 pass's to Cantrell for a pair of 1st downs in the first series that would end as True Freshman Ja'Quan Britton takes his first ever career carry 43 yds to the house to make it (52-7) with 3:42 to play.

Ohio State would get the ball back again, but Sampson quickly turned the ball over throwing his 2nd INT of the season. The Gophers however would later be forced to punt giving the ball back but the Buckeyes would stick to the ground game as they run out the clock.

Brightwell finished the day just 15/33 (45%) for 156 yds with 1 TD and 4 INT. He was also sacked twice..

                            WEEK 9 RECAP

                            FIU

The Panthers remain perfect moving to (8-0) this week with a (31-10) victory over the East Carolina Pirates.

FIU and ECU have had some battles over the years including the 2027 season when the 2 teams faced each other 3 times (Regular Season, CUSA Championship and Round of of the Playoffs) with FIU winning 2 of the 3 matchups on their way to their first National Championship.

Today, ECU didn't bring that same level of competition. The Pirates settled for a FG on the opening drive and FIU answered with a pair of touchdowns and a FG near the end of the 1st half to take a (17-3) lead into the locker rooms.. FIU extended the lead with a touchdown in the 3rd to make it (24-3) then both teams scored 1 more time in the 4thg.

QB Kevin Pounds finished the day 23/30 (76%) for 240 yds with 2 TD, well also adding 50 yds and a rushing TD on the ground.

RB Taylor Coxie had 18 carries on the day but finished with just 44 yds (2.4 avg)

WR Emari Boenzi continues to add to his Heisman campaign #'s with a 40 yd rushing touchdown finishing the day with 3 rushing attempts for 51 yds. He also led the team with 7 rec for 83 yds and 1 TD.

With the win FIU moves up 1 spot in the rankings swapping spots with Ohio State. The Panthers will head to Winston-Salem for a Week 10 matchup with (1-7) Wake Forest

                              GAME RECAP

Ohio State scored a new season high surpassing the 70 point total in Week 1 vs Miami OH by scoring 11 touchdowns on the day for a (77-21) victory..

It was a huge day for JR QB David Ledford who set a career high throwing for 442 yds with 6 Touchdowns on the day, well JR RB Dave Jones also had a big day rushing 15 times for 95 yds and 3 TD's well also hauling in 2 pass's for 33 yds including a 24 yd TD from Ledford to open up the game (7-0).

Ledford's day wasn't perfect as the JR QB did throw 2 touchdowns, but the Ohio State Defense helped the Buckeyes still win the turnover battle as they pick off SR QB J. Bohanon (81) 3 times as well..

Leading (42-7) at the half, Indiana actually cut the lead to (42-21) with 2:38 to play in the 3rd Quarter.. Ohio State however would respond by scoring 35 unanswered to close out the game.

Leading (63-21) after Ledford's 6th TD of the day with 4:55 to play in the game, Coach Miller gave the QB the rest of the game off but for a 2nd straight game it wasn't Vince Redziniak coming in for relief. Instead Miller would turn to RS FR Abdul Diabate who would show off his running skills by scoring 2 touchdowns in the final 3 minutes of the game..

                              Coach Miller
"I thought Abdul did a great job of not trying to force throws inside the redzone tonight.. All of our QB's on our roster could learn from his decision making by tucking the ball and using his feet to extend plays and in the end find the endzone was exciting.."
