    QB

Doug McSurdy is the Panthers #1 Target and for good reason, as he is the #1 Overall and the #1 QB in this year's class. The Fort Myers native won't have a shortage of suitors including Miami and Clemson who already are offering and are #2 and #3 behind the Panthers currently going into Week 2.. McSurdy would be the early favorite to replace Pounds as the Panthers starting QB.

4*'s George Cloud (#147 OVR/#15 QB) and Maurice Nwokorie (#315 OVR/#26 QB) are the current backup plans should McSurdy sign somewhere else.. Nwokorie however currently has Ole Miss listed as his #1 and the Rebels are off to a pretty big lead in keeping the kid instate.

    RB

With A. Rasmussen set to graduate and Ware looking like a potential early entry to the NFL, FIU is focusing on (3) 4* RB's in this year's Top-25 Big Board.

Jeremy Pullard (#51 OVR/#5 RB) is a 6'0 203lb (Elusive Back) capable of playing all 3 downs and being a true RB1.

Ray Lipscomb (#77 OVR/#11 RB) has many scouts already comparing him to Panther great Tavon Logan (95 speed for a 5'11 225lb power back) The Live Oak native like McSurdy won't have any shortage of instate suitors as Miami and Florida already have offered along with FIU.

Andrew Reitz (#66 OVR/#8 RB) is another big power back (6'3 233lb) who would thrive in the Panthers ground attack, but like Lipscomb, Miami, Florida and Florida State are all currently offering and ahead of FIU who is at #4 despite already having a Week 7 visit scheduled..

    WR

With Boenzi, Abiamiri and Muamba set to graduate and Kennedy and Kamula both looking like potential early entires, FIU could be looking to completely rebuild the WR room next season.

5* Fredrick Riggins (#5 OVR/#1 WR) is a great place to start, well 4*'s
Donald Owen (#58/#6), Nigel Baggs (#99/#11), Finau Nkang (#199/#22) and Tevan Culliver (#200/#25) all have the skills and size that Coach Dees loves.

    O-LINE

Always looking to build depth and find future starters, Valdez is attacking the O-Line with 6 scholarships including a pair of 5* Tackles in Lozano (#13 OVR/#1 T) and Morris Poole (#14 OVR/#2 T). Despite both players growing up and playing on the Westside (Arizona and Utah) FIU is currently #1 on both players wish list, but Oregon is pushing hard at #2 for both players.

    D-LINE

With 8 current underclassman on the line, FIU doesn't really need to add to the mix, but 4* Damien Reynauld (#100 OVR/#4 DE) is to good to pass up (Green Gem). However currently Miami is off to a pretty strong start to snag him away.

    LINEBACKER

Like the D-Line, FIU currently has 7 Freshman Linebackers on the roster, but like Reynauld 5* Carlos Coale (#12 OVR/#1 OLB) is a game changer.. The Panthers currently lead but Coach Miller and the Buckeyes are making a strong push at #2, and Miami, Oregon and Washington are all in his Top-5 and are offering as well.

    DEFENSIVE BACKS

5* CB's Ryland Rufus (#7 OVR/#1 CB) and Carl Walsh (#28 OVR/#3 CB) are the top-2 targets but 4*'s Rich Gammon, Christian Jue, and Sinilau Chiu are all solid backup plans.

The other 2 Defense units, FIU has alot of young talent already on the roster with 7 Freshman and 4 Soph's and only 2 players set to graduate but like Reynauld and Coale, 5* SS Moses Starks (#30 OVR/#1 SS) is a Day 1 starter type talent.. Starks has FIU #1 currently, but Alabama, Oklahoma, LSU K-State and Ohio State are all offering..

After back to back #1 Overall Recruiting class's that included a record (9) 5* Recruits last season, Coach Miller is at it again targeting (10) 5* Recruits in this upcoming class.

Miller who built his FIU program with instate recruits, also looks to be focusing on Ohio this year with 7 of his Top-25 residing in the Buckeye State. Miller also looks to be going hard into Georgia where 5 of his Top-10 targets reside, well also still targeting Florida (3) and the Westcoast (3) where he originally grew up and started his career at Boise State.

      QB

Despite landing 5* QB Nick De La Rosa last year and plugging him in as a Day 1 starter, Miller is pushing hard after 5* Frederick Clemons (#22 OVR/#3 QB)

      Miller
"Freddy is a different style of player then Nick, as he is a true pocket passer.. He isn't going to scramble much but with the arm he has he shouldn't have too"
Another interesting note is 4* Julius Breida.. The younger brother of former Buckeye QB AJ Breida, Julius offers everything Clemons doesn't (83 speed, 92 ACC) and could see a move to RB should he sign.(Washington is pushing hard at #2)

      RB
With former 5* Recruits Cameron McCracken and Viliami Te'O expected to replace SR Dave Jones as RB1, Coach Miller was basically just looking for depth but he has come across 3 very talented back who could be huge additions to a pretty young RB room.

4* Andy Bortles (#43 OVR/#2) is the 2nd best RB in this year's class and hails from Syvania OH (instate) well 4* Robert Rourke (6'0 229lbs) and Jace Burks (6'3 233lbs) are both considered "Green Gems" and fit that big back mold that Coach Miller has come to love.

      WR

#1 WR Jabu Gayton is set to graduate at the end of the season, but it looks like Coach Miller has found 2 guy's who could be Day 1 starters or at least crack the Top-5 next year.. 5* Cam Spain (#18 OVR/#3 WR) and 5* Nate Pettis (#27 OVR/#4 WR). 4* Charlie Emery (#226 OVR/#31 WR) is also on the board as a instate kid who boasts 93 speed, he could see some time on Special teams.

      O-LINE

Despite having a O-Line room that features 6 former 5* Recruits, Coach Miller is at it again looking to add 2 more including the Buckeyes #1 Target this year 5* Donavan Clemens (#4 OVR/#1 T) and 5* Matt Nester (#32 OVR/#4 T). Both players could transition to guard next year to fight or starting jobs early.. 4* Devonte Cisco (#194 OVR/#10 G) is currently on the big board as depth in case 1 of these guy's signs elsewhere.

      D-LINE

The Buckeyes are always looking to improve the pass rush and Coach Miller found 2 pretty talented ones. 5* George Oruwariye (#6 OVR/#2 DE) and 4* ATH/DE Nyles Simms (#284 OVR/#19) Simms has the ability to also play DT at 6'5 284lbs.

      LINEBACKERS

With current starter R. Hendricks set to graduate, and JR John Perez creating Draft Buzz, Coach Miller is targeting 4 OLB's with 2 of them being potential Day 1 starters..

5* Carlos Coale (#12 OVR/#1 OLB) has FIU currently #1 but that's not stopping Miller from trying sway him away, well fellow 5* Rodney Newcombe (#26 OVR/#2 OLB) appears destine for the Big Ten with OSU #1, followed by Purdue, Illinois, Northwestern and Notre Dame.

Miller also has targeted a pair of instate 4* Recruits in Boulware and Keyes who also are getting plenty of offers from other Big Ten programs.

Despite already having talented 5* MLB Eric Clemens backing up JR J. Giguere, Miller is also going hard after 5* Max Michaud (#19 OVR/#1 MLB).

      DEFENSIVE BACKS

Ohio State doesn't currently have a Freshman DB on it's roster and in fact has only 2 Soph's making the DB room the most experience room on the roster (3 Seniors, 6 Juniors).

So to help fix that problem, Coach Miller has loaded up his Top-25 board with 7 DB's in this year's class led by 5* SS Moses Starks who probably is only a 1/100 chance to sign (currently #6, well FIU battles it out with Alabama, Oklahoma and LSU..

If I've learned anything with USC and now Syracuse, you can never have enough QBs. De La Rosa looked great to open the year, but we both know the Big Ten is a different animal. Never hurts to have an insurance policy.

Nabbing McSurdy to replace Pounds would be a coup for the Panthers imo, hopefully he recognizes the Panthers are the future and Miami is the past

          GAME RECAP

College GameDay was in Eugene for the matchup of #3 Ohio State and #5 Oregon as these 2 Big Ten Powerhouses meet for the first time during the regular season in the Coach Miller era..

Ohio State jumped out to a early (14-0) lead as Redshirt Freshman D'Angelo Lowe takes a punt return 86 yds to the house..

Oregon would battle back to tie the game (14-14) behind a pair of touchdown runs by Senior Tye Ingram (86 ovr)..

Ohio State retook the lead (21-14) as True Freshman Nick De La Rosa caps a 11 play drive with a 4 yd TD pass to SR WR Jabu Gayton but Oregon goes 52 yds in the final minute to set up a 30 yd FG by Issac Erving to make it (21-17) at the half.

Oregon opened up the 2nd half with the ball but fail to take the lead as the Ducks punt but the Oregon Defense comes up big holding the Buckeyes to a 23 yd FG after back to back stops from inside the 5 yd line (24-17).

Still (24-17) as we head into the 4th, the Oregon Ducks Offense is dealt a series of blows as SR QB Steven Blunt (86) and SR RB Tye Ingram (86) are forced from the game.. Blunt is expected to miss the next 7 weeks with a Hamstring tear well, Ingram will also be out 7 weeks with a Broken Collarbone.

Well Blunt was almost perfect on the day (15/18) 83%, backup QB Conner Poindexter (81) was nothing of the sort.. The RS SO, would complete just 6/10 pass's unless you count the 3 INT's he threw to Buckeye Defenders as Ohio State had 3 tries to tie the game.. Finally with just over a minute to play in the game Ohio State sealed the victory taking a 2 score lead as Fredrick Tam scores his 2nd rushing touchdown of the game..

Tam who lead the Buckeyes with 17 TD's last season now has 4 in the first 2 games of the season..

RB Dave Jones struggle in Week 1 in the Buckeyes win over Toledo, but Senior RB was unstoppable today as he carries the ball 21 times for 165 yds including a 61 yd long.

True Freshman QB Nick De La Rosa struggled a little with the noise as Autzen Stadium ranks #9 in the loudest places to play in the country as he did throw a 3rd Quarter INT into the endzone but he will get a chance to redeem himself as Ohio State heads home for a Week 3 matchup vs Texas A&M.

          INJURY REPORT

The Ohio State Medical Staff once again is going to have a busy year.. SO WR Ezekiel Tandy is already on the IR out 7 more weeks with his Achilles Tear, but now 4 more Buckeyes join him..

Fellow RS SO Steven Locke (86 OVR), the Buckeyes starting RG, is out for the season and beyond (35 weeks) with a Torn Pectoral.

The D-Line took at hit as Starter RS SO Mafu Vakupuna (83) will miss the next 3 weeks and backup SR Levi Abram (76) will miss the next 4 weeks both with Torn Labrum's.

The Defense took another major hit as former 5* Recruit RS FR MLB Eric Clemens (82) will miss the next 8 weeks with a Broken Hand.

          RECRUITING NEWS

Several top recruits will be on the sideline for the Buckeyes Week 3 matchup with the Aggies including 5* QB Fredrick Clemons, 5* RT Matt Nester, 4* RB Andy Bortles and 4* DE/ATH Nyles Simms.

Yeah I hear ya.. I actually like Abdual Diabate alot and he is only a RS SO.. Honestly if something happens to De La Rosa, I don't think the Offense loses much with him under Center. Also I havn't actually played with them in a game yet but both RS Freshman A. Jacques and D. Killings are guy's who I think would be fine if pressed into duty.. If I can't land Clemons, then I think Breida would be a nice guy to bring in as depth and potentially move to RB with his 90+ speed but Washington is pushing hard..

McSurdy actually had Ohio State #5 on his list to start the year, but I didn't want to fight FIU for the only 5* QB who had them listed as a Top school.. I do think he would be a great replacement for Pounds, but I am not trying to get to excited about him in case I decide to have Coach Dees take a job somewhere else.. If the Panthers don't land him they got a solid group of (4) former 4* guy's who I think would probably keep them in the National spotlight.

WEEK 2 AROUND THE NATION RECAP

              FIU

The Panthers make it 19 in a row as FIU dominates Syracuse (60-10) in their season opener at Pitbull Stadium..

RB Marvin Ware lead the ground attack with 18 carries but managed just 42 yds scoring on a 5 yd run.

The hero of the run game today was SO WR Devin Kennedy who took a Jet Sweep 75 yds to the house for a score.. The Panthers would try the play again but Kennedy is stopped after a 8 yd gain as he finishes with 2 carries for 83 yds..

Kennedy was Pounds favorite target as well as leads the team with 5 rec for 175 yds and 3 TD's securing the hat trick with a 67 yd bomb.

FIU will look to see if they can make it 20 in a row as they travel to FAU in Week 4 as the Panthers begin a 4 week road trip.

                GAME RECAP

In 1930 Ohio State scored 9 touchdowns in a (59-0) win over Mount Union.. The Buckeyes rushed for a amazing 718 yds in that victory.. In 1974 Ohio State looked to try and beat that record with a team featuring Archie Griffin, Jeff Logan, Cornelius Greene, and Pete Johnson, the Buckeyes ran for 518 yds in a (49-7) win over Illinois.

Today Ohio State looked to make another run at the record, and well they didn't break even 600 yds on the day they did manage to beat the 518 yd total set in 1974 as Dave Jones, Fredrick Tam, Cameron McCracken and Ja'Quan Britton combine for 48 carries for 558 yds and 8 TD's including 291 yds and 6 TD's in the 1st half.

The Buckeyes run game dominated from the opening series to the 4th Quarter as Dave Jones cements himself in the Buckeyes record book breaking the single game rushing record with 333 yds (Trey Sermon had it with 331 in 2020 beating Eddie George's record of 314 set in set in 1995) on the ground well scoring 5 TD's to tie Keith Byars 1984 record..

Jones scored 4 of those TD's in the 1st Quarter as Ohio State jumped out to a commanding 28-0 lead before even completing a single pass attempt.

Leading (45-7) at the half, the Buckeyes put the game on cruise control in the 2nd half as several backups got a chance to shine, including SO RB Cameron McCracken who finished 18 yds shy of giving OSU (3) 100+ rushers in the game and RS FR Ja'Quan Britton who toted the ball 3 times for 33 yds (11.0 avg).

                UP NEXT
Ohio State moves to 3-0 with the win and retains their #1 spot in the rankings going into their Week 4 matchup with #23 (1-1) Pitt.

                INJURY UPDATE

It was another brutal Week in the Medical room, as SR DT Thomas Berger (84) goes down with a Complete ACL Tear that will see him out for 42 weeks.. Officially ending the West Virginia transfer's college career as well as probably any NFL dreams he had.

The Ohio State Special teams also took a big hit as RS FR D'Angelo Lowe (80) will miss the next 9 weeks with a Dislocated Ankle. *With Lowe out, RS FR Greg Lainer moves into the #5 WR role well Maurice Trueblood goes from #5 to #4. Lainer also will be the teams KR/PR#2 as RS JR CB Jason Bulaga takes Lowes spot as the primary return man.

                RECRUITING NEWS

WIth pure domination on the course, Ohio State got some great news in the locker room after the game as 5* QB Frederick Clemons (#22 Overall/#5 GA/#3 QB) and 4* RB Andy Bortles (#43 Overall/#1 OH/#2 RB) both sign...

                Coach Miller
"We are extremely excited for both players.. Freddy will give us a different look at QB and will help push Nick to becoming a better player and keeping him away from Alabama and Notre Dame is like a added bonus, and landing Bortles is exactly what we want to do with instate kids, so landing the Ohio Gatorade Player of the year is huge, because again we are keeping him off the roster of our competition well giving us another multi purpose back who could play play a big role in our offense in future years"

WEEK 3 AROUND THE NATION RECAP

                  FIU

FIU has won it's 20th straight victory dating back to last year's 16-0 finish.. The Panthers also have won their 9th straight Shula Bowl defeating arch rival FAU (45-7) to improve to 4-0 on the season.

                  Coach Valdez
"Well it's no official, next year could be our last Shula Bowl for awhile, right now with the way the ACC schedule works with 10 conference games, play FAU every year out of conference only allows us 1 other non-conference matchup.. However with reports of FIU potentially joining the SEC and having Florida, Florida State and Miami as conference matchups every year, it could open up the possibility for us to continue to meet the Owls despite the lopsided victories this past decade"
Like it's previous 2 games, FIU dominated the 1st half jumping out to a (28-0) lead in fact it was (45-0) before FAU scored the final touchdown against the 2nd team Defense..

It was another solid day for QB Kevin Pounds who complete 17/24 (70%) for 241 yds with 4 TD and 2 INT.. He also added 31 yds on the ground.

RB Marvin Ware had a nice day carrying the ball a team high 16 times for 99 yds but the ground attack got a nice boost as WR Devin Kennedy for a 2nd straight week takes a Jet Sweep 70+(73) yds for a touchdown and backup RB Anfernee Rasmussen added 3 carries for 56 yds including a 43 yd TD in the 4th. Rasmussen also added 24 yds on 3 receptions.

FIU will look to make it 21 in a row and move to 5-0 as they travel to Morgantown to take on the (1-2) West Virginia Mountaineers in Week 4.

                    GAME RECAP

1 Week after rushing for a season high 533 yds, Ohio State came out and proved they knew how to still sling it too, as De La Rosa and Diabate combine for over 400 yds through the air.

Like they have done all season, Ohio State jumped out to a pretty commanding (31-7) lead at the half and never let their foot off the gas pedal as they score 4 times in the 4th Quarter including a touchdown with 5 seconds to play on the clock

                    Pitt HC
"I personally think it's pretty unsportsmanlike.. To call a timeout just so Britton could run in a 1 yd score is pretty bush league to me"
Typically pretty well respected among his coaching peers, it looks like Coach Miller might have struck a nerve with this one.

Well the ground game didn't turn out a bunch of yards, Fredrick Tam continued to Bulldoze his way into the endzone with 3 touchdowns giving him 9 TD's on the season in the Buckeyes first 4 games.

With D'Angelo Lowe out of action Buckeye fans got a chance to see some more new faces in the WR room as RS FR Manny TrueBlood finished with 5 rec for 57 yds and a touchdown and late in the 4th with the lead, Miller even gave True Freshman Khalid Ahlers a chance to play in 1 of his 4 games without redshirting and Alhers responded with 2 rec including a 55 yd touchdown finishing with 72 yds on the day.

                    UP NEXT

Ohio State moves to 4-0 with the win and retains their #1 ranking in the Polls. The Buckeyes will return home to host (3-1) Cincinnati in a Week 5 Big Ten matchup..

you guys are on a roll. Jones looking Tavon Logan-esque against the Aggies.

Nice to finally escape a big win without a huge injury. They've been decimating you as of late

Yeah, if I had to guess, the Aggies DC probably resigned after that game.. They couldn't do anything against the run. Well Jones had a great day, Logan's best game he actually matched the entire team with 533 yds all by himself.. I just realized looking at the record, that a South Caorlina WR just set the single game record with 406 yds in a game this season in my Dynasty.

It's crazy I havn't made a slider adjustement in like 4 seasons and yet I can't keep Ohio State guy's healthy yet I rarely get guy's hurt at FIU.

                            GAME RECAP

FIU has won it's 3rd straight road game and it's 5th road game of the season as the Panthers stay perfect moving to 6-0 Overall and 4-0 in ACC play as they push their winning streak to 22 games.

Like they have done all season FIU dominated early with the run game as Marvin Ware goes over 200 yds on the day with 16 carries including a 43 yd score. Backup Anfernee Rasmussen also had a big day as he breaks a 51 yd score with less then a minute to play giving him 75 yds on 9 carries, and Tim Trinidad adds 7 carries for 38 yds and 2 touchdowns as well.

QB Kevin Pounds was just 13/28 (46%) having one of his worst passing % of the season as he goes for 237 yds with 2 TD and 1 INT.. He also added a rushing TD as well.

It was a rough day for SR Emari Boenzi who had 4 drop pass's as he finished with just 2 rec for 19 yds.

Today was the first game Devin Kennedy has scored a touchdown this season. Kenndey finished the day with 2 rec for 43 yds and had 1 carry for a 12 yd gain.

The 21 points scored by G.T. was a season high against the Panthers Defense. as they had entered the game leading the country giving up just 30 points over 5 games (6.0 avg)..

                            UP NEXT

FIU will finish out their 4 game road trip with a trip up north to take on (2-1) Rutgers in Week 6.

                            INJURY REPORT

FIU had been pretty injury free this season but the Medical Staff got hit 3 times in today's game as Starting FS Dylan Boggs (85) goes down with a Torn Bicep. He is expected to be out 9 weeks. His backup P. Huber (73) also went down, leaving the game with a Broken Tailbone. He is expected to miss the rest of the season (15 weeks). The O-Line took a hit as LT Kierre Coffman (84) has a Partial MCL Tear. He will miss the rest of the regular season (7 weeks) but should return in time for the playoffs.

                              GAME RECAP

Ohio State moves to 5-0 Overall and to 3-0 in Big Ten play with a pretty commanding victory over Cincinnati in Week 5.

FIU jumped out to a early (17-0) lead and extend that lead to (24-7) at the half as True Freshman QB Nick De La Rosa throws (3) 1st half TD's.

De La Rosa would extend the lead to (31-7) on the opening drive of the 2nd half as he throws TD #4 and then later in the 3rd Quarter Fredrick Tam would score what would be the first of 3 touchdowns on the day for the Redshirt Sophomore who continues to be a scoring machine as he now sits at (12) in the first 5 games of the season, leaving some to wonder if he is going to try and challenge Montee Ball (Wisconsin's) single season record of 33 set back in 2011 and Pete Johnson's Ohio State record of 25 set back in 1975.

Trailing (38-7), Cincinnati would try and make a game of it with (2) 4th Quarter scores but Ohio State answered each time with a score of their own.

QB Nick De La Rosa was named POG with his 4 TD's on the day.. De La Rosa now has completed 60% of his pass's for 1028 yds with 11 TD and 2 INT through his first 5 games.

                              UP NEXT

Ohio State will hit the road for a pair of games as they will take on (2-2) Indiana in Week 6 before taking on #7 (4-0) Notre Dame in Week 8.

                              RECRUITING NEW

Several top recruits were on the sideline for the win this week, but Coach Miller didn't get a single commitment instead losing out on 5* RT Matt Nester (#32 OVR/#8GA/#4 RT) who signs with Georgia..
