    OFF-SEASON NEWS

QB'S ZACH WIRE AND E. VERRETT LEAVE FIU

Rumors were swirling after the National Championship game that QB's Zach Wire and Enrique Verrett were not happy with Coach Miller's signing 5* of Derek Hawkins last season as well as the direction that the offense took when the sole focus became Tavon Logan's historic season.

Wire is taking his 3000+ yds and 34 TD's and 18 INT's and packing up and heading to the PNW where he will take over as the new starting QB for the Washington Huskies.

Verrett on the other hand is sticking close to home and announced his transfer to Florida State.. FIU's Week 2 opponent this year. Word on the street is Verrett is pushing for the starting job that is vacant after last year's starter graduated.

    Coach Miller
"It is what it is. I believe every player should check his heart first. If their hearts told them they didn't want to be here then I get it. I understand their frustration. When we recruited them we had hoped they would push each other to be the guy after Keyone left. Neither one beat out Dees for the job as True Freshman and Wire won the job last year by default.

Yes there were times he looked amazing but 18 INT's and a 51% completion rate is not what I am looking for from my starting QB.

I signed alot of guy's in this year's class, some of those guy's are likely going to end up at different positions or also in the portal next year. Hawk (D. Hawkins) has looked good this spring and so has Mack (Greg McRae). At this point its been neck and neck.. I think Mac runs a little better but Hawk I believe has all the skills you want as your QB1. However I was very honest with every QB still on our roster.. We will never stop looking to bring top tier talent to this roster and if that means adding another 5* Recruit next season we will do it."
With both QB's gone, FIU will go into the season with 80 players on the roster. Giving Coach Miller a additional 5 scholarships on Top of the 14 departing Seniors.

    Coach Miller
"Between the 5 open, 14 Seniors and potential NFL early entries like Stewart and Cheek as well as potential transfers, our goal next season is a 25 man class and a Class that ranks in the Top-10."
FIU OPENS 2030 HOSTING FSU IN WEEK 2

For the first time in 5 Seasons, FIU won't play their first game until Week 2. With 10 ACC games on the schedule, FIU only had 2 open weeks for non-conference matchups. The Panthers will continue to play FAU in the Shula Bowl in Week 3 leaving just 1 spot left.

Coach Miller is (1-1) Lifetime vs the Noles, giving up 69 points in a 2026 loss and then getting revenge in 2027 with a (34-17) victory..

Here is a look at the full schedule..

    Week 2 vs Florida State
Week 3 @ FAU "Shula Bowl"
    Week 4 "Bye"
    Week 5 vs ECU
    Week 6 vs NC State
    Week 7 @ Wake Forest
    Week 8 @ Georgia Tech
    Week 9 vs Maryland
    Week 10 @ #21 Virginia Tech
    Week 11 @ West Virginia
    Week 12 vs Liberty
Week 13 @ Miami "King of the City/Senior Day"

It's interesting because all of my ACC matchups swap home/away with last year's schedule except I play ECU at home again, and Wake Forest and Georgia Tech on the road for a 2nd straight year and the only games that swapped opponents vs instead of playing UNC I play NC State. I am happy that the CPU kept Miami as my Week 13 matchup.. This time I will be ready to play...

    TITUS TOMPKINS WANTS THE BALL

The Spring game saw several players make a big jump forward in show casing their desire to have a bigger role in the offense this year.

RS SR RB Titus Tompkins was one of those players (Jumped from a 83 to a 93 surpassing Logan who is a 90). Tompkins will look to replace Nick Fair who managed to rush for over 1000 yds last season despite Tavon Logan's historic season. With a True Freshman QB under center, and a new Offensive Coordinator in the mix and alot of ?? at WR/TE. Coach Miller could look to try and get both Logan and Tompkins 1500 yds each as the Panthers look to stick to the ground game that carried them to 15 wins and a National Championship last season.

    Coach Miller
"Titus worked his tail off this spring and he is ready to take on a bigger role. He is a Senior and he deserves a chance to showcase his abilities too. I know Tavon want's to chase down a few more records, but he isn't going to need 400+ carries, 3000 yds and 50 TD's to do it. We are also excited that Shawn Boyce choose to stay and also the improvement we saw from Terrance Cantwell. We believe both guy's will also provide us with the ability to keep everyone fresh and hopefully injury free this season"
    FAULK TAKES OVER THE MIDDLE

With Tevaughn Stewart moving on to the NFL, RS FR Cade Faulk (84 Ovr) is taking over at MLB after redshirting last season and like Stewart the former 4* has earned the praise of this teammates as they name him one of the Defensive Captains..

CISCO #1 BUT WHO ELSE WILL HAWK THROW TOO??

The Biggest story from the spring was also the biggest disappointment. 5* WR Emari Boenzi was expected to come in and push Tyler Cisco for the WR1 job Day 1. Instead Boenzi is currently not even listed on the active roster as Coach Miller believes it's in his best interest to redshirt (He is a 71 Overall, with only 70 Awareness and 79 catch).

Reports are RS SO Kris Newkirk who was the National Return Specialist of the Year will step into the #2 role this season despite not recording a catch last season.

RS Freshman Steve Trapasso and Carlos Badet are currently coming off a redshirt season and will be listed as the team's #3/#4 leaving 4* Athlete Tyreke Harmon (71 Ovr) and New Mexico transfer Afa Moe (68) to battle it out for the #5 spot.

As of now the players with the most career receptions on the roster are

    WR Tyler Cisco-83 rec 1288 yds 9 TD's (3 seasons)
    RB Tavon Logan 48 rec 695 yds 7 TD's (2 seasons)
RB Titus Tompkins-19 rec 203 yds (3 seasons)
WR Afa Moe-9 rec 132 yds 2 TD (1 season)

**I will post a Full Team Roster on the following Post with some more in depth discussion and thoughts from Coach Miller.**

      QUARTERBACK

With Wire gone, QB1 is now the hands of 5* QB Derek Hawkins. The True Freshman from Wilmington NC will get first crack at being the Panthers first 4 year starter since Keyone Jenkins. If Hawkins falters, then we got former 4* RS FR Greg McCrae waiting in the wings. Like Jenkins, McRae is a "Lefty" so there is that.

The QB room is deep. 4* Athlete Gerald Sykes will start the year as the #3 with 4 more 3* Recruits all taking the year to Redshirt. Sykes, Ingram and Rasmussen could all potentially move to other positions on the team next year as all 3 were recruited as Athletes.

      RUNNINGBACK/FULLBACK

Tavon Logan returning for another season after posting the Best Season in NCAA history is a huge headline for the Panthers. The National Player of the Year, Heisman Winner and 2 time Doak Walker Award winner will look to lead the nation in rushing yet again.

Titus Tompkins would most likely be every other team in the country's #1 RB. But Tompkins stayed with 1 goal in mind. Finish his career were it started.
T&T knows that Logan needs rest to stay healthy and he saw first hand what Nick Fair did last year. Tompkins also knows he will continue to see his share of Touchdowns has he had 11 in 2028 and 10 more last year despite Logan's 50..

Shawn Boyce has said in public he was like 99% sure he was going to join the portal, but he returns and is ready to show he can be the next man up, with Logan expected to head to the NFL after this season and Tompkins set to join him.

Terrance Cantwell takes over Major Benshaws role as the #4 and will be one of the primary kick returners.

Tompkins wasn't the only RB/FB to have a great spring (Training) as RS SO Kwabena Strong will look to help take on a bigger role at FB with Isaiah Dennis set to graduate at the end of the year.

      WIDE RECEIVER

Tyler Cisco is the next man up.. The former 4* has made some big plays for the Panthers over the years. He is more then capable of being WR1. He will also be the Panthers primary slot WR.

The rest of the room is a question mark and it will be a wait and see who steps up. Kris Newkirk showed last year on the return team he has jets for feet (99 SPD/96 ACC) and he actually has good hands (89 Catch). He will get first crack at WR2.

TE is a BIG Question mark. Both Dominick Naanee and Jose Malik were known for their pass catching skills. RS FR Earl Goodwin is not. Goodwin is a true blocking TE but he does have good hands (84) and could still give Hawkins a safety outlet against the Blitz. 4* Athlete Ahmad Vilain will be the TE who will help stretch the field (82 speed 81 catch) and at 6'4 will give Hawkins another big target near the endzone.

      0-Line

FIU lost 6 players including 4 Fulltime and 1 part time starter from last year's starting unit to graduation. RS SR RT Casey Hodel is the only one returning with starting experience, but the rest of the starting unit are all Redshirt Seniors. RG Sean Jaimes is a transfer from South Carolina well the rest have been solid backups for the past 3 seasons, so it will be interesting to see how this unit gels and if they can produce another type of season for the Panther Rushing attack.

      D-Line

Coach Miller and his new DC will have to figure out how to replace 12.5 sacks by Moehrig. RS SR BJ Faust returns for his 3rd season as the starting DT, well John Dinapoli (7.5 sacks) and Cortez Darby (4.5 sacks) will now start fulltime after sharing the RE spot last year opposite Moehrig. Dinapoli has the talent to make the next jump and be that double digit guy'.. He was projected as a potential 6th round pick in the NFL but returned looking to better his draft stock this season.

      LINEBACKER

Besides replacing Moehrig at DE, the Panthers will also need to replace almost 100 Tackles and the Leadership Tevaughn Stewart provided. They think RS FR C. Faulk will be the guy.

Last year RS SR Sam Truong spent part of the year in the starting lineup opposite Alex Wooleyhand but this spring (training) former 4* Joey Guerrero stepped up and looks ready to take on a bigger role pusing Truong to a backup role

      DEFENSIVE BACKS

Garrison Falah had a solid debut as CB1 last year after moving over from WR. At 6'4 204lbs he has the size to match up with both WR and TE and with 95+ speed he can stay with most of them. He posted 81 Tackles 4 INT last season as a Redshirt Freshman.

SR Joey Cordero jumps into the #2 role for his final season as a Panther. Cordero had 2 INT last year but 1 was a huge one coming in the Natty to help seal the Panthers victory.

Seniors TJ Everett (FS) and Oscar Beal (SS) return as starters giving this unit 3 of their key starters back. After posting 5 INT's in 2028, Beal had just 3 last season but he still manage to duplicate his 75 Tackles.

Everett on the other hand had a career high 3 INT's last year and was picked by teammates to be a Team Captain this season.

The Panthers have solid depth with RS SO's R. Dickerson and Alex McPherron at CB, Anthony Cookus at FS and Tim Pinner at SS.

      SPECIAL TEAMS

TAJ Dozier had a solid 1st year connecting on 25/31 FG's (80%) including a 52 yd long. He also made 100% of his XPT (109/109) and out of 150 Kickoffs he had 97 go for Touchbacks.

Raymond Nava also had a solid 1st year as the teams punter. He only punted 32 times for 1277 yds (39.9 avg) with a net of 34.2 yds. He had a 60 yd long.

We are being told New Mexico Transfer (2*) Afa Moe is currently scheduled to be the team's primary kick and punt returner taking over for Kris Newkirk now that he is the teams #2 WR, with RS SO Terrance Cantwell expected to help with kick returns. If they falter though , FIU could turn back to Newkirk especially on kicks where FIU needs a big return.

        GAME RECAP

FI wasted little time showcasing their new offense, as the Panthers dominate the first Quarter with 71 yds on the ground including a 15 yd TD run by Titus Tompkins to give FIU the (10-0).. With the Defense focused on stopping T. Logan, FIU got a big boost from backup FB Kwabena Strong who broke a 32 yd run for a score early in the 2nd Quarter to make it (17-0).

True Freshman Derek Hawkins looked pretty good in the 1st half but did throw his first career INT that setup a Seminole FG just before the half to make it (17-3).

On the opposite side of the ball, Former Panthers RS SO Enrique Verrett had moments where he looked solid completing 10/15 pass's but 2 of his drives were killed by INT's both by Oscar Beal.

FIU opened up the 2nd Half with the ball and Derek Hawkins led the Panthers down field throwing his first career touchdown as he finds fellow True Freshman TE Ahmad Vilain for a 37 yd TD to make it (24-3).

The 3rd Quarter wasn't much better for Verrett as he throws his 3rd INT of the day again to Beal which setup Strong's 2nd rushing TD of the game as FIU takes a pretty commanding (31-3) lead.

FIU opened the 4th adding to their lead as Dozier adds a 49 yd FG to make it (34-3).

FSU though would rally behind Verrett as the former Panther throws 2 TD's and helps the Noles convert a 2pt play to make it (34-18) with just under 4 minutes to play. FSU would attempt the onside kick but the Panthers recovered.

FIU still using a combo of RB's would look to run out the clock happy to start their season with a "W" but facing a 3rd and 8, Hawkins fires a 1st down pass to RS FR Ed Goodwin who takes it 18 yds for the final score of the game.

Enrique Verrett finished the game 25/43 (58%) for 312 yds with the 2 TD and 3 INT. Verrett was sacked 5 times.

        KEY PANTHERS

        QB D. Hawkins-12/18 (66%) 204 YDS 2 TD 1 INT, sacked 3 times.
        RB T. Tompkins-20 carries 95 yds 1 TD
        RB T. Logain-12 carries 71 yds
        FB K. Strong-7 carries 81 yds 2 TD
        WR K. .Newkirk-1 carry 3 yds, 3 rec 45 yds

        WR S. Trapasso-2 rec 10 yds
        TE A. Vilain-3 rec 69 yds
        TE E. Godwin-2 rec 33 yds 1 TD
        SS O. Beal-3 INT

FIU WILL TRAVEL TO BOCA RATON IN WEEK 3 TO TAKE ON THE FAU OWLS IN THE SHULA BOWL.

The Owls are (0-1) on the year as they fell (20-13) to New Mexico in Week 2.

Possibly. I originally came up with the idea of TY Helton as my OC because I thought I would move Miller to another team and have Hilton take over and then he leaves for Indiana. So when the time comes if Miller does take a nee job, ai will probably just make a DC or OC at FiU to be able to keep tabs on them

Overall my biggest hit was WR/TE. It's only been 1 game so dar but I am happy with that we got. This year will be different. We will lose like 5 starters on Defense,

So funny story about that. Tompkins and strong both had huge boosts in training and surpassed Logan and Dennis in Overall. For some reason after I set my depth chart they both moved back to #1.

Despite changing it in game the CPU kept subbing them in. Obviously I am not upset about Stromg because he busted 2 huge runs.

I am sure Logan will return to his role in the next game against the Owls

Also not sure how I missed it but Coach Danielson ended up as HC of South Carolina

Congrats on another natty! Seems like you had a pair of instant classics to raise the trophy, and your studs made big plays when it mattered the most.

Tompkins receiving a 10-point overall raise in the offseason seems massive - is that normal in the new game? Funny that he now has a better overall than your record-breaker in Logan, but that just adds a new elite weapon to your offense. Looking forward to seeing how the season plays out!

Yeah to be honest I still don't get the training boosts. I have had players get as high as like a 17 boost in the off--season and it's typically to reserves.. My FR TE came in as a 74. He had 86 rec and 1600 yds and 14 TD went to a 76 the following year and then never got a bump. His backup wert who saw way less PT went from a 72 to a 75 to a 77 and then a 79

I am no complaining but you would think it could take in consideration of the stats you put up

                      GAME RECAP

Coach Matt Miller and the FIU Panthers won their 6th straight Shula Bowl with a (38-7) victory over the FAU Owls in their Week 3 matchup.

Last year the Owls kept things close falling to the Panthers at Pitbull Stadium (48-39) but this year FAU despite the home field advantage could not muster any type of offense as the Owls picked up just 5 1st Downs on the day and a 187 yds of Total Offense.

Freshman Punter Calvin Shelley was a busy man punting 6 times for 203 yds kicking the ball further then SO QB Tim Grymes (77 Ovr) threw it.

It was a tough day for Grymes who replaced 4 year starter B. Pappoe. Grymes would throw 2 INT on the day (Garrison Falah and Joey Cordero) and would get the Owls into the endzone and on the scoreboard until there was less then 4 minutes left in the game.

FIU showcased their devasting rushing attack once again as the Panthers carry the ball 57 times for 274 yds and 2 scores with 6 different players getting into the action.

Star RB Tavon Logan had another quite day leading the team with 22 carries for 98 yds and 1 score, well backup RB Titus Tompkins breaks the century mark with 107 yds on 17 carries.

Reserve Fullback Kwabena Strong had another solid game rushing the ball 9 times for 44 yds and a score. Strong is making a "Strong" case for a bigger workload maybe even showing he could be Logan's potential replacement next season.. 3rd string RB Shawn Boyce did manage to sneak in 3 carries for 15 yds (5.0 avg).

With the big lead in the 4th Quarter. Coach Miller set down most of the starters as backup QB RS FR Greg "Mac" McCrae got his first real action. "Mac" completed 1/2 pass attempts for 6 yds and rushed 1 time for 3 yds.

True Freshman QB Derek "The Hawk" Hawkins had a great 2nd start to his career. Hawk completed 12/18 (66%) pass's for 208 yds and 3 TD's on the day.

In back to back games, Hawk relied on this TE's as he found RS FR Earl Godwin for a short TD from the goaline and then later in the game found True Freshman Ahmad Vilain on a nice out pattern for a 25 yd score.

RS FR Steve Trapasso also had a nice 19 yd grab on a corner route for his 1st score of the year, well Senior Tyler Cisco led the Panthers with 6 rec for 88 yds.

                      UP NEXT

FIU will have Week 4 off with their only "Bye" Week of the season. The Panthers will return to action in Week 5 as they host East Carolina in their ACC opener of the season.

                          GAME RECAP

East Carolina came into the game having already played 5 games starting in Week 0. After back to back loss's to start the year, the Pirates had won 3 straight including 3-0 in ACC play with wins over Rutgers (27-0), UNC (21-18) and Miami (34-26), but today the Defense looked gassed as they watched the "Wolverine" slash through their defense for a season high 303 yds and 5 scores as he breaks out of his slump..

Logan had back back runs of 40+ yd touchdown runs in the 1st Quarter to put the Panthers up (14-0).. Then it was SR CB Joey Cordero picking off SR QB Zach Adcock (92 Ovr) for a "Pick 6" INT return to make it (21-0).

FIU continued to dominate the 1st half building the lead to (38-0) with under 30 seconds to play before Adcock would deliver a 75 yd touchdown bomb to JR WR Josh Marshall (81) to make it (38-7) at the half.

ECU opened up the 2nd half with the ball, but couldn't capitalize off the spark of the score just before the half as they punt for the 7th time of the day.

Logan tacks on 2 more short scores in the 3rd quarter to extend the lead to (52-7) before Adcock finally gets ECU back in the endzone early in the 4th with another big pass play of 48 yds to RS FR A. Dora (74) to make it (52-14).

With Logan already over 300 yds and 5 scores on the day, Titus Tompkins took over adding a late score as comes just short of 3 straight 100 yd games finishing with (93 yds)

ECU QB Zach Adcock a Pre-Season All-American finished the day 14/29 (48%) 249 yds with 2 TD and 1 INT. He was sacked 5 times leading to a - rushing day for the Pirates.

FIU moves to (3-0) on the season and will host NC State in Week 6.

The Wolfpack are also off to a (3-0) start.

This will be Coach Millers 1st game against NC State as these 2 teams didn't meet in the 2029 season.

                          RECRUITING NEWS

FIU signed it's first 2 commitments of the 2030 Class including another 5* Recruit.

5* DE Kerry St. Pierre (#28 Overall/#2 TN/#2 DE). Listed at 6'3 278lbs from Nashville TN, St. Pierre had scholarship offers from TAMU and Georgia with visits scheduled to both schools but came away impressed with the Panthers win over ECU and signed right there before leaving Pitbull stadium.

The Panthers also might have found their next Tavon Logan.. Coach Miller invited 4* RB Tim Trinidad (#117 Overall/#14 FL/#14 RB) to FIU over the "Bye Week". Trinidad listed at 6'3 225 lbs from Apopka FL, had scholarship offers from Miami and NC State with campus visits set to both (Weeks 9 and 12), so this was another huge steal by the Panthers.

                            GAME RECAP

There is a saying if it's not Broke don't fix it. That is new OC Chuck Dobbin's motto.. He watched FIU run for almost 7000 yds last season and for over 10,000 yds the past 2 seasons first hand as the former HC of ECU. Dobbins new going into the season the plan was simple. Run Logan and Tompkins 50+ times a game and watch the Duo break records and carry the Panthers to another deep playoff run.

Well Dobbins is a pretty smart guy.. NC got a chance to see first hand for the first time what the hype of Tavon Logan was all about as the National POY and Heisman winner showcased his skills with 188 yds and and (3) 1st half touchdowns. If that wasn't enough Logan showed he still had gas in the tank in the 4th Quarter with his biggest run of the day going 71 yds for his 5th TD of the day.

The Wolfpack D even got a chance to see Logan lined up out at WR as Logan catches back to back pass's for his 1st receiving TD of the day as well.

With back to back games of 5 rushing TD's, Logan now has 11 on the season and now has 78 in his career leaving him just 10 shy of breaking Navy's Keenan Reynolds 88..

Logan finished the day with 286 yds rushing and now has 758 yds on the season (in 4 games) and 5806 yds for his career leaving him just 599 yds shy of beating San Diego State's Donnell Pumphrey as the NCAA All-time leading rusher.

Despite Logan's huge #'s already this season, SR RB Titus Tompkins is off to a great start in his quest for 1000 yds. Tompkins finished the game with 117 yds giving him his 3rd 100 yd rushing game out of 4 and 412 yds on the season.

With 419 yds and 5 scores, FR QB Dan Hawkins wasn't asked to do much. Hawkins passed the ball just 18 times completing 10 (55%) throwing for 232 yds and 2 scores. His 1 lone mistake on the day was a 45 yd pass attempt to the endzone to Kris Newkirk on a 1 on 1 play that the CB just make a great play on the ball.

FIU holds onto it's #1 ranking as it moves to 4-0 on the season. The Panthers will hit the road for a 2 game road trip starting in Week 7 @ Wake Forest.

The Demon Deacons are (2-4) on the year. This marks the 2nd straight trip FIU has made to Winston-Salem since joining the ACC last season.

                            RECRUITING NEWS

FIU got it's 3rd commitment of the season this week landing 4* OLB Dillion Brown (#38 Overall/#4 FL/#5 OLB). Listed at 6'1 220lbs, from Miami, Brown was heavily recruited and had scholarship offers from both Florida and Georgia Tech with school visits set to each.

Landing Brown was huge because FIU fell to #2 this week in the recruitment of 5* OLB Alex Cutrera (#10 Overall/#1 FL/#2 OLB). The 6'3 262 lb Bradenton FL native had FIU #1 on this Top-3 after a Week 4 visit to FIU but in Week 6 took a visit to College Station and moved the Aggies to #1. Coach Miller and the staff are going all in with the Hard sell hoping to keep Cutrera close to home. Cutrera also has scholarship offers from Nebraska, Georgia and Penn State.

Well Cutrera bumped FIU down, Coach Miller and the Panthers got some great news from their other (2) 5* Top-Targets.

5* QB Kevin Pounds (#11 Overall/#2 FL/#1 QB) has moved FIU to #1 ahead of Miami and Florida. However it's still to early to celebrate as the 6'4 192 lb native of Melbourne FL has official visits scheduled for Gainesville this week and a Week 9 visit scheduled with the Hurricanes.

5* SS Sharrif Tolbert (#30 Overall/#2 GA/#1 SS) also has moved FIU to #1 ahead of Georgia after taking a Week 6 visit to Miami and the FIU campus. Listed at 5'11 207lbs from Sylvania GA, Tobert still has 4 scholarship offers and campus visits from

                            #2 Georgia (Week 12), #3 Tennessee (Week 9) #4 FSU (Week 10) and #5 Ole Miss (Week 13)

Please destroy Wake. I'm not sure why but I hate them. They've never done anything to my teams or been really a consideration, but I hate them in the way I do Bowling Green. I hate the uniforms, the presentation, the logo ahha.. They never did anything, but I want FIU to run them over haha.
