    Good start to another season!

For your "in-game" pics, are you using screenshots, or taking them from a mobile phone?

      Thanks!

I take the in-game pics with a mobile phone (Iphone8). Most of the time I can take a decent pic with it, but sometimes there will be a few photos that are a bit blurry etc.
Although not perfect, I find taking the photo's by phone (& being able to edit, upload to sharing site etc), helps streamline the process of putting these posts together.

Thanks! I love the pictures you add and have inspired me to do the same for my Halifax franchise.

Great can’t wait to see Halifax in action

If I could offer any advice - Angle is pretty important when taking photos with your phone, you’ll be amazed how much distortion can occur if you are not holding the phone square to the tv.
Also, When taking photos of stats etc. you will experience a little picture ‘bending’ (lines aren’t perfectly straight - you may have noticed that on my pics) but on an iPhone or Samsung that is unavoidable from what I can tell.

Best of luck, if you need any help with photos feel free to ask.

Game Results, News & Team Updates::

            2nd November, Nashville @ Detroit

The Red Wings extend the winning streak on the current road stand to 3, with a resounding 5-2 victory over the Nashville Predators.
Rookie sensation, Kirby Dach scored the game’s 1st goal during the 1st period, paving the way for a big night for the visiting Red Wings.
Jeff Skinner continues his spectacular start to season 20/21 with another 2 goals, both tallied in the 2nd period.
Pred’s Ryan Johansson & Austin Watson scored for their team, however the home team was well held by the visitors in this one.
Mantha continues his run of big night’s on the assist train, recording 3 for the night, twice for Skinner & the final to Dylan Larkin who scored an empty netter in the dying seconds of the game.
Rookie Defenseman Callan Foote was also amongst the statistics, recording 2 assists.
Bernier had a brilliant game also recording 30 saves.

            3 Stars of the Game:

            Scouting Update:
It appears this year should be a good one.

            5th November, Arizona @ Detroit

The Red Wings streak moves to 4 wins with a big win against Arizona at home.
Anthony Mantha scored twice and Jeff Skinner added a game winning goal to his increasing season tally.
The Red Wings peppered 40 shots on net to the Coyotes 29 in a great offensive effort.
Coyotes rookie Michel Dufresne & Vinnie Hinostroza scored for the Coyotes in the 1st period, keeping the visitors competitive all game.

            3 Stars of the Game:

            7th November, Buffalo @ Detroit

The Red Wings battle it out against an emerging Buffalo Sabres, however go down 3-2.
After Kyle Okposo scored the game’s 1st goal, the Red Wings found a gear with Jeff Skinner scoring to tie the game late in the 1st period, followed by a goal from Tom Kuhnhackl to put the home side in front.
However not long after, 2nd year star, Joakim Nurminen scored his 12th for the season to tie the game. Nurminen is having a freak of a season to date, leading in points by a country mile.
Sam Reinhart later scored in the 2nd period to put the Sabres in front and that’s where the score stayed for the remainder of the game.
Jonathan Bernier picks up the loss however he can hold his head high, having made 37 saves in a tough night at the crease.
The Red Wings get little rest with another game tomorrow night at home against the San Jose Sharks.

            3 Stars of the Game:

8th November, San Jose @ Detroit

Something must be in the water at Detroit as the Red Wings demolish the Sharks in a 5-0 shutout victory.
Rookie Goalie Ville Husso records his 1st career shutout with a modest 24 saves with the shot count kept low, thanks to impressive defensive efforts from the Wings D-men tonight.
Andreas Athanasiou scored twice in his best performance for the season, backed up by goals from Filip Zadina, Michael Rasmussen & Dylan Larkin.
The Red Wings season record improves to 11-4-0

            3 Stars of the Game:

            11th November, Detroit @ Minnesota

Detroit continues to defy the odds with a 4-2 victory in Minnesota against the Wild.
It was certainly Jeff Skinner’s night, scoring his 500th career NHL point from his 1st goal, then completing the night with a Hat-trick, thanks to an empty net that gave him his 3rd.
Although outclassed in the end, Minnesota kept with Detroit the whole game & had a lot of near chances by the end of the 3rd period. Ultimately penalties let the home team down (12 minutes), allowing the Red Wings too many power plays (5).
(for the record, I haven’t had many or much issues with penalties like has been reported in the forum – plays quite well & usually quite low on both sides every game, with the occasional blow out which is still realistic)

            13th November, Detroit @ Nashville

The Red Wings small win streak is snapped, however they still pick up a point in a 3-2 shootout loss to Nashville on the road.
The Red Wings trailed 2-0 early in the 1st period when Kevin Fiala & PK Subban both put the puck past Ville Husso. However Kirby Dach gave the Wings some hope with a late 1st period goal to reduce the lead to 1.
Wings Captain, Dylan Larkin then scored in the 2nd period to tie the game & the rest of the proceedings went without further score right through to the shooout.
Pred’s star winger Filip Forsberg took to the ice 1st in the shootout & scored on Husso. From there the Wings weren’t able to level the ledger and the Preds come away with a home victory.
Wings rookie goaltender, Ville Husso is tonight’s 1st star with 38 saves & a .950 save percentage.
The Red Wings now head to Edmonton to play Connor McDavid’s Oilers tomorrow night.

            3 Stars of the Game:

            14th November, Detroit @ Edmonton

The Red Wings were pummelled 6-1 by the Edmonton Oilers in an off night for the visitors.
Leon Draisaitl, Pontus Aberg & Captain Connor McDavid each scored twice in the Oilers big win, in what was a terrible night for Bernier, whose luck was out, letting in 4 1st period goals, including one that was scored in the very last second of play.
The Wings were almost shutout until Jeff Skinner came to the rescue with 3:53 remaining in the game to provide a little positivity from the game.

            3 Stars of the Game:

            18th November, Detroit @ Montreal

The Red Wings lose their 2nd consecutive game on the road 3-1 to the Canadiens.
Shea Weber, Nikita Scherbak & Max Domi scored for the home team through the 1st & 2nd periods. The Red Wings finally found the net in the 3rd period thanks to a neat wrist shot from Michael Rasmussen, however the visitors were held from there.
Ville Husso records a loss, making 25 saves.

            3 Stars of the Game:

            20th November, Carolina @ Detroit

The Red Wings rally from 2 goals down to come away with a 4-3 victory over the Hurricanes.
The Red Wings looked to be in trouble against the reigning Stanley Cup Champions, as the visitors grabbed goals from Victor Rask & Haydn Fleury. However the Wings composed themselves and turned the game around, scoring the next 4 goals unanswered, including 2 goals from Evgeny Svechnikov.
The Wings then held a 2 goal lead for most of the last period, until Tuevo Teravainen scored with 2:58 remaining reducing the lead to 1. Ville Husso was brilliant yet again, making 37 saves & the major factor in the Red Wings win on a busy night.

            3 Stars of the Game:

21st November, Detroit @ Tampa Bay

The Red Wings pull up just short of causing an upset on the road, losing 3-2 after a shootout against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Tonight was a low scoring affair but full of plenty of action as the Red Wings continue to be competitive against the likes of powerhouse teams such as the Lightning.
Anthony Mantha scored the 1st goal of the game in the 1st period, from a sweet rebound in front of net. Steven Stamkos then tied the game later in the 1st, with JT Miller then putting the home team in front in the 2nd period.
The game looked all but over & a regulation win on the cards for the Bolts when with under a minute of play remaining, Victor Hedman turned over the puck & Wings Captain, Dylan Larkin lazered the puck through the air from the top of the left-hand faceoff circle to beat Andrei Vasilevskiy over the shoulder with only 30 seconds remaining to force overtime.
No one would score in overtime, however it was a familiar face to the Red Wings, Gustav Nyquist, who would score in the shootout to give the Bolts a close shave victory.
The Red Wings walk away from tonight with a point, however it was certainly as close to an upset as possible.

Young D-man reported not happy about the assignment – Yzerman hands out attitude adjustment. Joe Hicketts Called up to Detroit

            22nd November 2020

(When I assigned McIsaac to Grand Rapids, his message to me was something like – How dare you send me down!
The message option I chose as reply – which was the demanding tone – was something like “Look you are lucky I don’t whack you all the way back to the minors with this hockey stick” funniest morale comment I have ever seen – & his morale increased! LOL)

            23rd November, Detroit @ Buffalo

Detroit steadies the ship in the 3rd period, scoring twice to take a 5-3 victory over Buffalo on the road.
It was all eyes on Callan Foote, who scored his 1st career goal in only the 1st 17 seconds of the game.
It seems the only people who didn’t have eyes for Foote was the Sabres defense, letting Foote waltz seemingly unguarded past the blue line, who then let go of a mighty slap shot, zinging past goalie, Juuse Saros’s head.
Anthony Mantha then went on to score twice, however the Sabres kept pace & scored 3 times themselves to finish out the 2nd period with a tied game at 3-3.
In the 3rd period Tom Kuhnhackl found Rasmussen in a gap, flicking the puck across the goal-face, setting Rasmussen up for a brilliant go-ahead goal.
Within another minute, Mike Green passed the puck to Alex Edler who got off a perfect wrist shot to once again beat Saros’s glove.
The game itself was fiery with plenty of physical checking.
The brutal encounter even had a fight between Dylan Larkin & Ryan Dzingel after Larkin caused injury to Rasmus Ristolainen in a harsh check, with Dzingel besting Larkin easily .

            26th November, Philadelphia @ Detroit

The Red Wings can’t get it done against the league leading Philadelphia Flyers, losing 4-3 in regulation.
The Wings mixed it well against their opponents, with Larkin & Athanasiou scoring to tie the game at 2-2 midway through the 2nd period. However the Flyers were able to kick away again in the 2nd period with Lindblom & Morrisey scoring to make the score 4-2 going into the last break.
The Red Wings kept the intensity however could not score, until finally, playing in his 1st NHL game for the season, Tomas Hyka found the back of the net for Detroit to reduce the gap to 1.
Philadelphia held on & they take away the points in tonight’s game.

            3 Stars of the Game:

            28th November, Montreal @ Detroit

The Red Wings storm home with a huge 7-3 victory in tonight’s game against the Canadiens at Little Caesars Arena.
6 different players for the Red Wings lit the lamp, with Rookie Kirby Dach leading the charge, scoring twice, with Larkin, Svechnikov, Mantha, Zadina & Rasmussen also scoring in tonight’s domination.
Zadina was brilliant tonight, also tallying 3 assists, giving him a career best 4 point night and earned the game’s 1st star.
Kirby Dach followed as the 2nd star with his two goals, whilst Montreal’s Max Domi was the 3rd star, also with 2 goals.

            3 Stars of the Game:

            Wrap up:
A 2nd strong month in the books & sitting 3rd in the Atlantic Division, which feels odd to be at the pointy end.
The team has had some really strong performances against good competition. We will still struggle to beat teams like Toronto, Tampa Bay, St Louis, Chicago & Philadelphia but at least we are competitive.
A huge sign of the team’s great performance over 2 months - currently the Red Wings lead the league in Goals For Per Game with an average of 3.29 and they are tied 12th in Goals Against Per Game with a 2.50 average.
Ville Husso has been quite the pick up this season, the rookie net minder (never played in the NHL before this season, however the game has not listed him as a rookie?) has already played more games than I originally forecasted & I can see him playing even more pending Jonathan Bernier’s performance & health.

            Injuries:
31st October - LW Evgeny Svechnikov - Mild Concussion - Missed 2 games
            31st October - D Dennis Cholowski - Broken Nose - Missed 4 games
            23rd November - D Mike Green - Elbow Injury - Missed 2 games

            Contract Extensions:
Nil, Anthony Mantha is the big fish we really want to start negotiations with. As yet, he has not been open to talks. This season, he sits at the top of the morale chart, so hopefully his agent will be in touch soon.

            Call Ups/ Assignments:
11th November - LW Matt Puempel - assigned to Grand Rapids Griffins
11th November - LW Kalle Kossila - Called up to Detroit
23rd November - D Jared McIsaac - Assigned to Grand Rapids

              1st December, Detroit @ Ottawa

The Red Wings were heart wrenchingly close to victory, however go down 3-2 against Ottawa after the shootout.
The Senators are the current Atlantic Division leaders, however a victory tonight would have put the Red Wings at the top - it was not to be.
The Wings held a 2-1 lead with 1:15 remaining in the 3rd period, when Vladislav Namestikov scored the game-tying goal for the home team.
Overtime ensued with no score, then the shootout was close but it was Namestikov again, plus John Silfverberg, who made the difference, both scoring shootout goals, to give the Senators the victory.
Anthony Mantha & Mike Green scored Detroit’s goals, as the visiting team kept Veteran goalie (& Senator’s massive off-season signing), Braden Holtby busy all night, facing 43 shots on goal.

              3 Stars of the Game:

              3rd December, Detroit @ Boston

The Red Wings win a great rivalry game 3-0 on the road over the Boston Bruins at TD Garden.
Jonathan Bernier records a shutout, stopping all 34 shots on net in a brilliant game.
Michael Rasmussen scored the 1st goal of the game in the 1st period, setting the tone of the game, with Svechnikov to follow late in the same period & Anthony Mantha adding yet another goal to a growing tally in the 2nd period.

              3 Stars of the Game:

              Breaking News...

Victory over Boston puts Red Wings at top of Atlantic Division.... for now.
Great start to season continues with 3-0 shutout of Boston

              4th December 2020,

              5th December, Buffalo @ Detroit

Kirby Dach scores the game winning goal at Little Caesars Arena that sees the Red Wings defeat the Buffalo Sabres 3-2 in a great contest.
Buffalo will be rueing the missed opportunities by not capitalising on their chances, as they outshot, & generally outplayed the Red Wings, having put 36 shots on nets to the Wing’s 19.
After a scoreless 1st period, Casey Mittelstadt drew 1st blood for the visitors with a goal only 42 seconds into the 2nd period. Only 2:17 later, Red Wing’s Center, Andreas Athanasiou, levelled the score with a wrist shot from a tight right hand angle.
Tyler Bertuzzi then put the Wings in front near the end of the period, with a neat tapping of the puck into the net from a rebounded shot on goal.
Sabres Captain Jack Eichel then tied the game once more only 2:37 into the 3rd period & the Sabres looked extremely dangerous, having near complete control of the puck offensively, plus the Wing’s looked extremely shaky from the Sabres forecheck.
With 6:53 remaining on the clock in the 3rd period, Kirby Dach turned the game upside down once more. On one of the Wing’s rare offensive plays, the rookie center placed himself perfectly between the hash marks, received a perfect pass from Filip Zadina to one-time the puck into the net past Sabres goalie Jusse Saros.
Detroit were then able to hold on through to the final siren to win. The team should be proud of the victory given its limited time in offense & pressure received in defense.
Jonathan Bernier received his 2nd consecutive 1st star award for his role played tonight, brilliant again making 34 saves.
With tonight’s victory, the Red Wings maintain 1st in the Atlantic, however have a very tough challenge against Toronto tomorrow night at Scotiabank Arena where the Red Wings have not won for quite some time.

              3 Stars of the Game:

              6th December, Detroit @ Toronto

Despite a gallant effort and minor comeback, the Red Wings go down to Toronto 3-2 at Scotiabank Arena.
The Red Wings trailed 3-0 late in the 2nd period, after goals from Nylander, Johnsson & Tavares. For the 2nd game in a row, rookie center Kirby Dach scored. The young Center’s goal was produced from a high speed slap shot from near the right hand boards, out near the blue line, beating Leaf’s backup goalie Anderson over the shoulder.
The Leafs did manage to hold out the Red Wings from scoring again until with 1:03 remaining in the 3rd period, when Michael Rasmussen scored to reduce the gap to 1.
By the final whistle, the gap was too great and the Leafs prevail at home.

              8th December, Edmonton @ Detroit

Kirby Dach is developing a habit of scoring game winning goals, as the Red Wings win in overtime 2-1 over the Edmonton Oilers.
With 1:04 played in the overtime period, Dach defected a Joe Hicketts slap shot, catching Oilers goalie Cam Talbot off-guard, letting the puck past for an astounding OT win. This is Dach’s 10th goal for the season, in what has been spectacular to date.
Earlier in the game, Oilers Andrej Sekera scored 2:58 in to give the visitors the lead, however, at 13:55 in the same period, Jeff Skinner scored his 15th for the season, finally snapping a mini scoreless streak.
The rest of the game would go scoreless, with Red Wings goalie, Ville Husso, making 39 saves in a massive effort for the rookie, earning him tonight’s 1st star of the game.
Cam Talbot also played well in the Oilers crease stopping a moderate 25 shots on goal.

              11th December, Detroit @ Carolina

28 seconds into overtime, Dylan Larkin scores the game winner to give the Red Wings a 4-3 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes.
The defending Stanley Cup Champion’s ordinary season continues with tonight’s loss, however they did bring tough opposition to the Red Wings with Haydn Fleury tying the game at 3-3 in the 3rd period.
Larkin scored twice in tonight’s effort, scoring in the 2nd period & the game winner in overtime.
Michael Rasmussen & Mike Green tallied the other 2 majors for the visitors.

              13th December, Florida @ Detroit

The Red Wings move to 3 wins in a row with tonight’s close 3-2 victory over the Florida Panthers at Little Caesars Arena.
Coach Jeff Blashill adjusted the lines a little, swapping Zadina & Skinner to the 1st & 2nd lines. It worked a treat for Filip Zadina, who finished the night with a goal & an assist.
Zadina tallied the game winning goal in the 3rd period with only 4:24 remaining in regulation.
Anthony Mantha continues a great season with a goal & Michael Rasmussen tallied his 11th.
Florida’s Denis Malgin scored in the 2nd period & Aaron Ekblad scored early in the 3rd which had the game tied at 2-2.
Johnathan Bernier continues to have a hot glove, making 26 saves in another victory marked against his record.
Tonight’s victory puts the Red Wings 2 points clear of 2nd placed Tampa Bay in the Atlantic Division standings.
Tomorrow night the Red Wings play the Lightning at Amalie Arena in yet another massive test.

14th December, Detroit @ Tampa Bay

The Red Wings are put to the test on the 2nd night of a double header & fall short, losing 3-2 to the Lightning at Amalie Arena.
Red Wings journeyman, Kalle Kossila scored the 1st goal of the game to boost the visitor’s confidence, however 2 goals from Steven Stamkos & 1 goal from Braden Point had the visitors on the ropes, trailing 3-1.
Dylan Larkin scored late in the 2nd period to make the game extremely interesting, however the Bolts held on & beat their divisional rival, as the lead for the Atlantic heats up.

              3 Stars of the Game:

              17th December, Calgary @ Detroit

The Red Wings finish big late in the 3rd period to storm home as 5-1 winners over the Calgary Flames at home.
Evgeny Svechnikov was everywhere & was rewarded with 2 goals plus an assist.
The Wings also enjoyed goals from Andreas Athanasiou, Jake Muzzin & rookie, Dennis Cholowski,
Cholowski’s goal was scored on an extremely tight angle, with the puck bouncing backwards off Flames Goalie Eddie Lack’s leg pad.
Johnathan Bernier’s stand out season continues with another win and 23 saves.

              19th December, Winnipeg @ Detroit

The Red Wings drop tonight’s home game 3-1 to the Winnipeg Jets.
Dustin Byfuglien scored twice, including an empty netter, leading the way for his team.
The Red Wings lone goal came only 22 seconds into the game, which appeared to be an excellent sign from the recently red hot team, however Calle Hellebuyck, shut the door for the rest of the game in a brilliant effort.

              3 Stars of the Game:

20th December, Detroit @ New Jersey

In what was a crazy last period, Mike Green scores with 7 seconds remaining to give the Red Wings a 3-2 victory over bottom placed New Jersey Devils.
For 2 periods the game was scoreless. In the final period, both teams would score a total of 5 goals including a game tying goal from Devil’s Mile Wood with only 58 seconds remaining & then Green’s game winner with 7 seconds remaining.
Wood scored twice for the Devils, with Mantha & Svechnikov adding the other majors for the Red Wings.
Ville Husso started tonight & in another great effort, the 25 year old Finnish net minder made 32 saves.

              3 Stars of the Game:

24th December, NY Rangers @ Detroit

A last ditch effort from the Rangers makes the outcome interesting, however the Red Wings win 3-2 tonight at home.
Mika Zibanejad scored his 2nd goal of the game with 11 seconds remaining in regulation whilst playing 6 on 5, reducing the Wings lead to 1, however Larkin won the final faceoff and the result becomes set in concrete.
Evgeny Svechnikov scored early in the 1st period, with Jeff Skinner & Michael Rasmussen both scoring in the 2nd period to give the Red Wings the very handy 2 goal lead.
Filip Zadina & Kirby Dach finish a great night off with 2 assists each added to their growing tallies.
Ville Husso gets his 2nd consecutive win, making 26 saves in a great performance.
The only blight on the game for the Red Wings was an apparent Mild Concussion received by Scottie Upshall, who left the game in the 2nd period after a bump from Rangers’ Chris Kreider.
The Red Wings will have a day at home for Christmas, then will fly out on the morning of the 26th to play the Florida Panthers.

              3 Stars of the Game:

              26th December, Detroit @ Florida

The Red Wings have pulled off a big 4-1 victory over the Florida Panthers.
It was the names we are not used to seeing on the score card that dominated tonight, with goals from Dennis Cholowski, Kalle Kossila & Tyler Bertuzzi. Evgeny Svechnikov being the only regular name we see on the score card on a normal basis.
For the 2nd game in a row, Kirby Dach was brilliant in setting up goals, finishing with 2 assists, giving him 4 assists the last 2 games.
Husso gets his 3rd straight win making a modest 24 saves, whilst Panthers goalie, Roberto Luongo had a busy night, facing 40 shots on net with 36 saves.

              3 Stars of the Game:

              29th December, Detroit @ Dallas

Penalties hurt the Red Wings as they are shutout with a 2-0 loss to the Dallas Stars in the road.
The Wings led the penalty count, 13 minutes to 4 minutes, greatly affecting their abilities to do much on offense.
Hats off to Ville Husso tonight, although letting in 2 goals, the rookie goalie faced 40 shots, stopping 38, whilst the Wings could only manage 24 shot on net at the other end.
The Stars 2 goals, both came in the 1st period from experienced players, Alexander Radulov & Tyler Seguin.

              3 Stars of the Game:

              31st December, Vegas @ Detroit

The Red Wings drop a bad one at home, losing 4-3 to the Vegas Golden Knights.
Despite holding a 2-1 lead going into the final period with goals from Green & Dach, the Red Wings allow the Golden Knights to score 3 unanswered goals in the space of 4 minutes to give the game away.
Former Red Wing, Xavier Oullet, Reilly Smith & Devante Smith-Pelly were the Knight’s goal getters.
Anthony Mantha broke his mini drought by scoring during a 6 on 5 play with 39 seconds remaining, however the gap was too great & the Red Wings lose to one of the league’s cellar dwellers.

              3 Stars of the Game:

              Wrap up:
Aside from the losses to Dallas & Vegas at the end of this month, it has been another brilliant one for the Red Wings.
In fact, the team was sitting at the very top of the Atlantic Division until the last 2 games.
The good performances have been well spread amongst the team. Mantha & Skinners’s productivity slowed considerably, however the torch was picked up by Evgeny Svechnikov, Filip Zadina & Kirby Dach on the 2nd line. Other players to feature have been Rasmussen, Muzzin Green, plus Husso & Bernier in net.
We made a trade this month to acquire a 1st round pick from the Ottawa Senators, which should see us achieve this season’s primary objective set by the team’s owners. Prospect Goalie, Dmitri Semin was a big asset to move out of our organisation, however with the recent success of Ville Husso & the impending arrival of prospect goalie Viktor Chistov into the AHL next season, there is little room for extra talented goalies in this pool.
Come trade deadline, the positive news is that at least we will not be pulling out all stops to acquire that 1st round trade & can actually look at what might make us a better hockey team if we are still at the pointy end of the competition, come March.
It really has been a Cinderella run to this point, I couldn’t be happier with the team, who have won a number of close games that make all the difference. We’ll be ready to accept whatever happens from here, however we have set ourselves up nicely for a push for the playoffs.

Currently we are in possession of Colorado's 1st Round pick, thanks to their approach/offer to us at the start of the season for Alex Killorn & 2 x 3rd round picks. Colorado are within the bottom 5 in the competition, which gives us a decent shot at a top 3 pick (so far).
I am very interested in Larsson (Med Elite LW) or Laatikainen (Med Elite D) should luck fall our way & Colorado stay at the bottom of the league.

Re: The Captain Returns - NHL19 - Detroit Red Wings

ive been up for the last 2 hours reading every post in this franchise. i absolutely love it.

edler was playing for a mens league team in remote sweden and a detroit scout was en route to check him out but couldn't make the trip. the scout told a canucks scout about him and we went and checked him out and eventually drafted him. he looks good in a red wings uniform but is underperforming.

kirby dach is killing it, and its nice to see mantha on the top list of points.

nice gamble on colorado's first rounder this upcoming season. seems they've been lucky with the lottery, looking forward to seeing how it turns out for the wings.

my only beef is that these two seasons were spoiled in the third or fourth post with the history, maybe for the next guy hide it in a spoiler regardless was worth the read

Thanks, I'm glad you like it & I really appreciate the feedback.

Didn't know about that with Edler, amazing how fate can work.
Although he hasn't been great, I've really enjoyed having him on the roster, he's been an important veteran asset with the rebuild, with Kronwall leaving among others.

You might be onto something there about the history. I'll give it some thought and might put it into a spoiler - it does make sense.

                      Wrap up:

This season has certainly been a tougher challenge for the Griffins as they manage to keep their heads slightly above .500 in Wins/Losses
Joe Veleno’s 1st season in the AHL has been a good introduction to the rigours of senior hockey & he has been maintaining a position between the 1st & 2nd lines.
As the team had been struggling, especially in goal, it was hoped that with the addition of Marcus Hogberg from Calgary/Stockton might spark some better performance from Harri Sateri & Marek Mazanec, however to date, even Hogberg has not been performing much better, forcing him out of the starting spot, back in favour for Sateri.
If the Griff's are to make playoffs for a 2nd straight season, they will need to pick up their defensive game.

Panthers veteran left winger, Mike Hoffman scored late in the 2nd to keep his team in the race through to the end of the game, however Jonathan Bernier kept the visitors from scoring again to give the Red Wings a great start to the month.

The St Louis Blues led early thanks to a Vladimir Tarasenko laser early in the 1st period, however the Red Wings had all the answers afterward, with a tying goal from Green later in the 1st, then Bernier limiting the Blues to no further score.
Jake Muzzin tallied his 3rd goal in 2 games thanks to an empty net late in the 3rd period, when the experienced Defenseman intercepted the puck off a bad pass & scored from the centreline.

                              9th January, Detroit @ Buffalo

The Red Wings somehow walk out of Keybank Center with a 5-4 shootout win over the Buffalo Sabres, whose season has gone from great to terrible in weeks.
Rookie Center Kirby Dach & Jeff Skinner both scored twice in tonight’s win, with Skinner scoring the game tying goal with 6:04 remaining in the 3rd period.
No score would come about in overtime, sending the game to a shootout & it was not until the 6th round, that Andreas Athanasiou scored the one & only shootout goal to win the game.
It was an opportunity to turn the season around gone begging for the Sabres, who have now only won 1 game from their last 10 appearances with tonight’s SOL.
Kyle Okposo led the Sabres with 2 goals & 2nd year sensation, Joakim Nurminen tallied 4 assists, having a part in all 4 of the home team’s goals.
The Sabres also outshot the Wings 44 to 30, which included a 19 shots to 5 shots in the 1st period that still saw the game tied at 1-1.

Top of the Atlantic clash in Detroit & Tampa Bay proves just why they are best by trouncing the Red Wings 6-3.
The Lightning retained possession of the puck for the lion share of the game, however the Red Wings were able to match it with the visitors leading the game at 2-1 by the end of the 1st period, thanks to a goal from Dylan Larkin with 5 seconds remaining.
The Bolts then went on to score the next 5 goals unanswered, forcing coach Jeff Blashill to change out Johnathan Bernier in favour of Ville Husso.
Filip Zadina scored late in the 3rd period, only his 6th goal for the season, to give the Red Wings some small consolation.
Bolts captain Steven Stamkos led the way for his team tonight scoring 2 goals plus an assist. All-star winger, Nikita Kucherov was prominent with 1 goal & 4 assists in a huge game.

Mantha Signs 7 year contract with Red Wings
After much speculation, Mantha Signs 7 year deal worth $8.95M USD per season

                              12th January 2021,

News today has emerged from Red Wings HQ that star Right Wing skater, Anthony Mantha, has signed a 7-year contract extension with the Detroit Red Wings valued at $8.95M USD per season.

Today’s signing will see Mantha through to the end of the 2028/29 season & almost guarantees him as being a Red Wing for his entire career.
Steve Yzerman held a quick press conference to announce the news along with Anthony Mantha & Head Coach Jeff Blashill.
Yzerman commented, “We are pleased that Anthony has chosen to call Detroit home for the extended foreseeable future. We have had some rocky years during this rebuild, but with locking down Moe (Mantha) plus other key additions to the team, we are steering in a great direction.”

Anthony Mantha’s new Contract will take affect at the beginning of next season, he had the following to say:
“I’m really happy with coming to an agreement with the Red Wings organisation & I’m even happier with my decision to stay. I’ll be really honest, I did have my doubts last season & that’s why I only made a 1 year commitment then. Now, with the new guys that are on board, plus a few of the guys that have been around since I’ve been here, you can really feel the positive energy around the place. I want the chance to win a Cup & now I can say this team will have its chance soon enough – I want to be part of that.”

                              Jeff Blashill was quoted:
“We’re delighted with the kind of player that Moe has developed into. In the beginning he was quite one dimensional & was really only relying on his big body to position himself in front of net. While he did put out some good numbers in his first few years, it has only really been this season & last season that he has developed a bigger, diversified game. He gets involved in both offense & defense, his assists totals have really picked up as testament.
Moe has a great shot at driving this team’s success & we will be right behind him, driving him to do just that.”
Mantha is currently in the midst of a career best season, leading the team with 47 points (20g, 27a) in 44 games, leaving only Tom Kuhnhackl & Johnathan Bernier As the only regular roster players who could become unrestricted free agents by season’s end if no agreement is sought.
The Red Wings will take on the Washington Capitals at Capital One Arena tomorrow night. The Capitals are in the midst of another great season, led by Alex Ovechkin , recovering from what was an extremely poor season in 2019/20.

                              13th January, Detroit @ Washington

Despite 2 late 3rd period penalties, the Red Wings hold on for a 3-2 upset win over the Washington Capitals on the road.
Tonight’s loss for the Caps marks an end to what was a 7 game winning streak.
The game started with a frenzy, as Caps Defenseman John Carlson scored on the very 1st shot of the game, closely followed by a Wings Kirby Dach goal on the game’s 3rd shot on net. Jeff Skinner & Lars Eller then scored for their respective teams & by the end of the 1st period the scores were locked at 2-2.
Red Wings veteran Scottie Upshall scored the game winning goal in the 2nd period, with the Capitals doing all they could to tie but could not get the job done.

Detroit is annihilated 7-2 tonight at home by the Chicago Blackhawks.
The Red Wings gave away 5 penalties in the 1st period, paving the way for the Blackhawks run which included 4 power play goals.
Brandon Saad & Alex DeBrincat both scored twice while while Henri Jokiharju tallied 1 goal & 4 assists in a night where the Defenseman could do no wrong.
Johnathan Bernier was swapped out of the game, for Ville Husso, early in the 2nd period when the Blackhawks had just made the score 4-2, however Husso was no match either, with the visitors piling on another 3 goals, making the normally solid rookie goalie look very second rate.
Andreas Athanasiou & Kirby Dach were the lone Red Wings scorers during the 1st period.
The Red Wings have 1 more game to play at home on Saturday night against the Pittsburgh Penguins before the All-Star weekend break.

The Red Wings have recovered from last game’s blowout, winning 2-1 at home over the Pittsburgh Penguins in a tight contest.
All of Detroit’s score was accumulated in the 1st period, with goals from fellow 1st liner’s Anthony Mantha & Jeff Skinner.
The Penguins kept the pressure on net high, however Ville Husso kept his great season going, only allowing the one goal scored by veteran D-man, Erik Johnson in the 3rd period.
Husso’s 32 saves earned the Finnish goal tender yet another 1st star award.
Skinner claimed the game’s 2nd star, whilst Mantha claimed the 3rd star, both tallying a goal plus an assist each.
The Red Wings now take a much needed 9 day break over the All-Star Weekend, this year held at TD Garden, Boston.

Ville Husso is quickly creating a name for himself in the NHL as a game changer, helping the Red Wings to a 4-2 victory over the Washington Capitals, despite the Wings being outshot 40 to 20.
If anything, Caps Goalie, Robin Lehrer had a shocker, only making 16 saves whilst his opponent was stopping nearly everything thrown at him.
The Caps did manage to tie the game only 1:31 into the 3rd period with a goal from Mike Appleton, however within the next 5 minutes of play, Jake Muzzin nailed a scorcher, putting the Red Wings back in front.
Martin Frk then scored with 1:47 to give the Red Wings a comfortable buffer through to the final siren.
Frk’s goal was his 1st for the season in 26 games, in which he has spent nearly half as a healthy scratch.
Anthony Mantha finishes tonight with 2 assists & Jake Muzzin was brilliant with a goal plus 2 assists.

Andreas Athanasiou led the way with 2 goals in tonight’s game, with Upshall, Skinner & Martin Frk tallying the other 3.
Frk is making the most with his return to the side, scoring his 2nd goal in as many games.
Husso finished with another win & 24 saves.
However tonight’s 1st star award belonged to Tyler Bertuzzi with the gritty bottom 6 forward tallying 3 assists in a spectacular game played.

                              Wrap up:
The Red Wings followed up last month’s great effort with even more, winning an incredible 9 from 11 games during January, to give us the 4th best record in the league.
The only 2 losses coming from Atlantic Division Leader, Tampa Bay & Central Division leader Chicago, both of whom beat us soundly (That game against Chicago – Ouch! Lol).
Anthony Mantha continues his well rounded season with 9 assists on top of 3 goals & Jeff Skinner almost equally as good with 8 goals & 3 assists.
Next month starts off with a bang, with the Red Wings taking on the League leading Philadelphia Flyers which should be a great contest.

Trade Deadline pending on the 26th February
Dare I say it, we are in the thick of the playoffs hunt & with Trade Deadline approaching, we may have to look at our options for strengthening our defensive lineup.
What trades might have to take place in order for a high grade Defenseman to join our ranks, I’m not sure yet but we will start that process now.
There are a number of viable options at great value, with Justin Faulk (Carolina), Shea Weber (Montreal), Alec Martinez (LA) & Kevin Shattenkirk (NYR) all on their respective team’s trade blocks. Ryan Pulock from the Islanders is another consideration, however I worry that he might make enough of a difference.
All of these players would be great additions, however each (with the exception of Pulock) does come with differing potential hazards as far as their ages & contracts are concerned.

                                2nd February, Philadelphia @ Detroit

The Red Wings have defeated the league leading Philadelphia Flyers 3-2 in overtime at Little Caesars Arena.
Jeff Skinner scored the overtime winning goal with 30 seconds remaining in what was a nail biting finish.
The 1st & 2nd Periods were extremely even with the teams going goal for goal. Svechnikov & Larkin had the goals for Detroit & Couturier & Giroux had the Flyers tallies.
Neither side could capitalise in the 3rd period, forcing overtime.
Ville Husso was brilliant in net once more with the rookie earning yet another 1st star of the game award. Jeff Skinner & Dylan Larkin we’re nominated the game’s 2nd & 3rd star with a goal each.

                                3rd February, Detroit @ Pittsburgh

The Red Wings extend their win streak to 6 with tonight’s 4-3 comeback victory over the Penguin’s on the road.
Kirby Dach has an uncanny ability to find the net when it matters most, as he netted the game winning goal with 3:09 in the final period. This is Dach’s 6th game winning goal for the season.
The game started very well for the Red Wings, scoring the 1st 2 goals of the game, with Edler & Zadina both scoring early within a minute of each other.
The Penguins were able to rally however & had one on the board themselves after Jack Guentzel found the back of the net in the 1st.
Phil Kessel scored in the 2nd period & Evgeny Malkin scored only 44 seconds into the 3rd to snatch the lead.
The Penguins held on with the Red Wings pressing, until Jeff Skinner finally tied the game at 3-3 with 6:25 remaining. Dach then scored his game winner.
Johnathan Bernier returned to the crease tonight to rest in-form rookie Ville Husso, making a modest 28 saves.

                                6th February, Vancouver @ Detroit

The Red Wings host the Pacific Division leaders, the Vancouver Canucks & come out on top with a 3-2 victory.
The Wings led 2-0 going into the final period. Largely thanks to a Joe Hicketts goal in the 1st & a Filip Zadina goal in the 2nd.
Rookie Center Kirby Dach continues to impress, scoring his goal at just over two minutes into the final period, giving the Wing’s a 3 goal lead.
The Canucks bounced back with 2 quick fire goals from Elias Petterson & Sven Baertschi –the 2nd goal coming with 5 minutes to spare in regulation, giving Ville Husso a big challenge at the goal crease to keep the Red Wings in front. The young goalie again proved himself to be worthy, stopping the Canucks attack & cementing home team’s victory.
Husso finished tonight with 36 saves, earning yet another 1st star award. Evgeny Svechnikov was brilliant in passing the puck, adding on 3 assists, setting up 3 goals.

                                7th February, Minnesota @ Detroit

The Red Wings win streak comes to a halt at 7 as they are shutout in a 2-0 loss to the Minnesota Wild.
The rigours of back to back games was evident tonight with the normally vibrant Wings attack seemingly absent on the ice.
Ville Husso managed to stop 26 shots on net with Jonas Brodin & Mikael Granlund getting the better of the young goalie in the 1st & 3rd periods.
Wild Goalie, Al Montoya records his 1st shutout for the season in a 1st star award performance.

                                9th February, Dallas @ Detroit

The Red Wings are shutout for a 2nd consecutive game at home with the Dallas Stars getting through the Red Wings defense almost unhindered.
The Stars found goals from Julius Honka, Roope Hintz & 2 from Tyler Seguin, all on Jonathan Bernier who had a game he’d rather forget.
Anthony Mantha has failed to make an impact in a 3rd straight game which is an unexpected turn for the right winger who has had a standout season to date.
In further worse news, Star Defenseman Jake Muzzin left the ice late in the 1st period with what appeared to be a lower body injury & did not return to the game.
Stars Goalie, Ben Bishop earns a shutout victory and is named the 1st star with 28 saves.

                                12th February, Detroit @ Calgary

It took 8 periods, 7minutes & 19seconds for the Red Wings to finally get back on the scoreboard & tonight they are victorious over the Calgary Flames with a 2-0 win.
Ville Husso records his 2nd career shutout victory in a solid performance from the Finnish Goalie.
Dylan Larkin & Michael Rasmussen both scored in the 3rd period to give the Red Wings a shaky victory on the road.
Flames goalie, Jon Gillies did all he could to curtail the visitors, making 28 saves, however unfortunately goalies don’t usually score goals & neither did his teammates tonight.

                                3 Stars of the Game:

                                13th February, Detroit @ Vancouver

The Red Wings are embarrassed by a dominant opposition, with terrible defense & sloppy goaltending, paving the way for a 7-0 thrashing to the Vancouver Canucks on the Road.
The Canucks only managed 24 shots on net for their 7 goals in what is a complete meltdown in the Red Wings defensive zone. Ville Husso started the game & after letting in the 1st 3 goals during the 1st period, he was replaced by Jonathan Bernier, who ultimately fared worse, letting in 4 more goals throughout the rest of the game.
This also marks the 3rd game in the last 4 where the Red Wings have failed to score, making it 11 scoreless periods from the last 12.
For the Canucks, Brock Boeser was on fire tonight scoring a hat-trick, plus an assist in front of his home crowd. Canucks goalie, Thatcher Demko recorded 32 saves & a shutout.
Coach Jeff Blashill & the Red Wings have a couple of day’s to regather themselves, find out where the game is going wrong for them & turn this slump around.

                                3 Stars of the Game:

                                15th February, Detroit @ Anaheim

The poor performance continues for the Red Wings as they are soundly beaten 5-1 by Anaheim at Arrowhead Pond.
Kirby Dach was the Wings sole scorer in another lacklustre game, whilst the Ducks piled on 5 goals with ease over Ville Husso who appears to have been hit with the slump as bad as his teammates have.
Nick Ritchie was the big factor in tonight’s game for the home side Ducks, scoring 2 goals in the 2nd & 3rd periods.

                                3 Stars of the Game:

17th February, Detroit @ San Jose

The Red Wings mix it with the San Jose Sharks for as long as possible however are swamped in the 3rd period & go down 4-3 at the siren.
Sharks Star d-man Marc-Edouard Vlasic scored twice to lift the Sharks above the Wings.
The Red Wings finally found a game where they scored in each period, with goals coming from Andreas Athanasiou, Tomas Hyka & Filip Zadina, who only just recorded his 10th goal of the season.
It was another tough night for Bernier in net, facing 33 shots & saving 29.

                                3 Stars of the Game:

                                20th February, Detroit @ Chicago

The Red Wings close out the 4 game road trip with a 3-1 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks, their 6th loss in 7 games.
Things looked to be on the up in the 1st period, when Martin Frk scored the game’s 1st goal, beating Corey Crawford low on the stick-side. However by the completion of the 2nd period, the Blackhawks chalked up 2 goals on the scoreboard via DeBrincat & Saad to take the lead.
Adam Louis scored for the Hawks in the 3rd period & again the Red Wings could not apply decent offensive pressure on their opposition. They have been at least consistent when it comes to lacking the ability to create plays and score goals.

                                Trade Deadline - Breaking News....

Red Wings Acquire Shea Weber From Canadiens
Yzerman rolls the dice, picking up veteran all-star Defenseman & Captain. Will play first game against Anaheim.

                                23rd February 2021,

It will be the move that will either make or break Detroit’s season & furthermore, it could possibly define Steve Yzerman’s tenure as General Manager at the Red Wings organisation.
Yzerman announced last night, the Red Wings have come to terms with the Montreal Canadiens to acquire their Team’s (now former) Captain, Shea Weber.
In the deal the Red Wings obtain Weber, plus two 4th Round Picks in this year’s player entry draft, in exchange for highly touted prospects, left winger Anthony Gilroy (19yrs 71ovr Med Top6F – Pick #109 in 2019) & Center Jonatan Berggren (20yrs 63ovr Med Top6F – Pick #33 in 2018).
Weber, 35, comes with a hefty $7.855M per year contract that still has 6 years to run, meaning he will be 41 at its eventual expiry. This is a move that has turned heads, considering it was not long ago the Red Wings were shifting a lot of expensive contracts out of the team during its rebuilding process.
“The core of our team is locked up contractually for at least the next 2 seasons & we have the room for him. If we are to make a run for the cup now, which believe me is unexpected, the addition of Shea Weber really makes sense to us in the front office - even given his age and the price tag he has come with.”
“This was a big deal & it was not an easy decision to come to, especially when firstly, in the front office, we have been working towards setting up a young side that will continue to grow in the years to come, & secondly, when you are trading away players who fit that young mould & have a long and prosperous career ahead of them like Gilroy & Berggren do, but that’s the business we are in and the risk we have to take to try and grab some early victory.”
“Our team has really struggled over the past 7 or 8 games, both offensively & defensively – you can’t hide the fact that we have been outscored 25 to 7 (goals) in that period, which is terrible. I hope Shea can help bring balance back to the team with his leadership & skill, & we dig ourselves out of this hole we have currently made for ourselves. The real positive for Shea is that he isn’t going to be wearing a letter C or A on his jersey, meaning he can get down to business & just think about his game.”
“He’s on the plane as we speak, he will play his 1st game as a Red Wing tomorrow night against the Ducks.”

Since the 7th February, the Red Wings have gone 1-6-0 in their past 7 games & have been outscored 25 goals to 7 in that period, which included 3 games with no score.
Their upcoming opponents in tonight’s game, Anaheim, only 8 days ago, were one of the teams to hand out a 5-1 thrashing.
With number #6 officially retired at the Detroit Red Wings, it is believed Weber will don number #61 on his jersey.

The puck is set to drop at Little Caesars Arena tonight @ 7:30pm EST. Full coverage on

                                The Trade:

Shea Weber – Now a Red Wing:

                                23rd February, Anaheim @ Detroit

Shea Weber’s 1st game as a Red Wing & Mike Green’s 1000th NHL game, all were not enough to get the Red Wings across the line, going down 3-2 in a heartbreaker against the Anaheim Ducks
Evgeny Svechnikov scored with 1:12 remaining in the 3rd to tie the game at 2-2, which lit the crowd, however the Duck’s spoilt the party with 17 seconds remaining, when Ondrej Kase tapped in a loose puck from a breakaway shot on goal to give the Ducks the win.
This now marks the Red Wings 7th loss in 8 games, with players such as Mantha, Larkin & Skinner being all but virtually scoreless throughout this timeframe.
We’ll be back here in 2 days time, where the Wings get another chance to turn things around against the Boston Bruins.

                                25th February, Boston @ Detroit

The Red Wings have come out with a fire lit under their belly tonight, dominating the Boston Bruins 4-0.
Ville Husso records his 3rd shutout in a much better performance from himself & the Detroit defensive corps.
Evgeny Svechnikov scored twice in the victory with Tom Kuhnhackl & Tomas Hyka scoring the other 2 goals.
Tonight also marked the return of Jake Muzzin who was sorely missed out there. Both Muzzin & Weber played as the 1st pairing with rookie Callan Foote moving to the 2nd pairing with Alex Edler.
The Red Wings 1st line is still missing in action, however from the run the Red Wings team is currently having, Coach Blashill will take what he can get.
Amazingly, thanks to other bizarre results around the Atlantic Division, tonight’s victory propels the Wings to top place in the division with only 1 point separating 1st & 4th place.

27th February, New York Rangers @ Detroit

The Red Wings lose a tight one at home, 2-1 to the New York Rangers.
A Kirby Dach hooking penalty with 2:37 remaining on the clock made all the difference, with Mikkel Boedker scoring the power play game winning goal with only 1:32 remaining in regulation.
Dylan Larkin scored the game’s 1st goal in the 2nd period, however Rangers Star winger, Chris Kreider soon levelled the score to cancel the good work done.

                                Wrap up:
This was a very tough month that felt like we were no better than we were a season ago.
After winning the 6 games straight via the end of January to the beginning of this month, the Red Wings went on to lose 8 of the next 10 games.
Guys like Mantha (3 assists from 13 games), Skinner (2 goals, 2 assists from 13 games) & Larkin have gone stone cold - they just couldn’t score or contribute meaningfully.
Having said this, even after all of the losing, we are only 2 points off the top of the Atlantic Division with other top teams somehow feeling the late-to-mid season heat also.
Looking at the big possibility of Playoffs, we traded in Shea Weber, who has impacted the team positively. Unfortunately we have still managed to lose 2 out of the 3 games since he came on board.
Jake Muzzin was the standout missing feature after an injury early in the month, we finally have him back & need him to get back to form.
There are officially 19 games left in the regular season, I want Jeff Blashill & the boys to dig deep and turn this fade around. They deserve to make playoffs after the big effort that has been put into the 1st half of this season. They have been given them a huge boost with the addition of Weber. It’s now up to them to get the job done.
